i think "copying" is there for a long time in tamil film history. Here we discuss the tamil songs copied from others.
1.Vedha:i know he always go for a hindi tune in his films(mostly for Modern theatres). No alterations! he just copy a full hindi song !
best examble:Manam ennum medai mele(Gil tho ye kulu yahag)
2.MSV: i hear that(from Sujatha's book"Neerkumiligal") "thulluvatho elamai" was a song copied from english to almost all famous indian langages. Is there any other songs MSV copied?
3.Illayaraja:Even the GOD of MUSIC Raja sir did some thing like this.He just used that "I love you"style from BOneyM Sunny for "darling darling"in priya.I have heard a totally same song like "Kanavu kanum valkkai yavum" in Hindi also.(i forgot the film).
and i dont know who is the MD for the song"ehu pal vadiyum mugam! ethai parpathu than sugam".But i heard the same song in an english film.
4.ARR : i was told from my friends that he did copying intelligently.drum beats and some music styels from cassettes like "enigma, ace of base".And the humming before the song "thillana thillana" is a 100%copy from the film"the island of Dr.Mozeru".
5.SA Rajkumar : a lot of help from hindi! best example "mallikai puve malligai puve parthaya" from "didi tera thevaru thevana"
5.DEVA:hee..hee..the master.(better we see how many songs he did on his own instead of seeing how many songs he copied!)
like wise there is a lot of songs are copied from Tamil to Hindi also..
Now its your turn friends....

Even he said in an interview.
IR copied so many. Some thing came out. Since they declared that somebody compuled for that, it is not the end. Lot else r there.
ARR firt song chinna chinna aasai is copy from Veedu Varai uravu. Sing VVU in CCA tune. you will find the cheat.

Agreed the copies of IR are a black mark on his white shirt, but can't compare that with one in DK!

eden,
Arivaalikal theriyaamal thavaru cheikirarkal.
but, deva could not do it. It doesn't mean that I like deva. nalla paatu yaar pottalum pidikum.
IR 80's songs are mere copies of naatup purap paatukal. koil kumi, kaavai ithellam duet aakitar.
For us steeling means doing from outside. but, I too like those songs.
Arivaalikal theriyaamal cheikirarkal. IR arivaali. I agree. We are lucky to get MSV,IR,KVM,ARR, and also Deva.
One more MD. We forget him. Chandrabose. Listen to his songs. his songs are also good.
10 rupees ot 1000 rupees, theft is a theft. Pnishment may differ. But, they all come under same all.

Illayaraja has given tremendous of tunes during his early eighties and even now, because of his indepth knowledge of hindustani an carnatic raagas. At that time he was experimenting with mixing a naatupurapattu with western instruments and Hindustani raagas in folk style. These are fusions and innovations and cannot be described as copies.
Listen to
1. Kadaloram Kadaloram - a typical fisherman folk song composed in Aananda biravi Raga.
2. Paruvame pudhiya paadal Paadu - an hindustani bit in a western style.
3. poongathave thai... - a fantastic song with a mixure of var...ious instruments in a perfect sequence.
4. Indiranum chandiranum from 'Avadharam' - a typical folk song with a Symphony style background score.
A person who has given great stock of such tunes
if at all is copying (if any) means he is just inspired by that tune.
This cannot be compared with what Deva or others do.

Yea, u guessed right, this is about deva's copying :))
But with a difference. When TOP mds "inspiring" from the same tune.
Pak Sufi song "Sayonee" by Junoon Band is with us.
Sayonee : http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Spa/6494/music.html
SAR : megamai vanthu pogiren, thullatha manamum thullum http://www.ramiy.com/songs/SAR/Tu_ma_tu/acd_01_3.ram
Deva : Salomia, kannethire thondrinal :

folks,
Once when SAR couldn't the break the reign of IR, he started talking as if people are not realising his true music potentiality.
eppo he started flicking....
looks like deva and SAR ethil potti veru...both of them getting inspired from the same tune....yaar first endru....sure I would support DEva.....the best example of "XEROX".
I saw more inspired clips of Sirpy, Deva in
http://www.muthamil.com
he is total disgrace to the land of Thyagaraja and others.

Two things....
SA Rajkumar's 'etho oru paatu' was original, while Sanjeev Darshan copied it in Mann! Not the other way round. It was a good tune so please give him the credit folks.
And chinna chinna aasai doesnt sound like veedu varai uravu in anyway! Did I miss something or is it just a nut who posted it?

MS,
The initial progression may be similar, but the similarity ends there. I think your argument kind of legitimises the copy of Sanjeev-Darshan (Sons of Shravan(Nadeem)) who in their very debut film Mann, copied SAR's original.
IMO, Edho Oru PAttu is one of the very few originals from SAR.
He(SAR) obviously is so proud of this number that the song is manifesting itself in many avatars in the MD's subsequent releases, in all languages!!!

a song hyperlink will be more appreciated. :-)
by the way, can anyone tell me which tamil song resembles this Nusrat's song.....

the initial starting seems to resemble something.....but can't say for sure.
is it a scoop or scam?
