Northies think India means, just people speaking Hindi / Punjabhi, they are very ignorant of south Indian talents, they think Kumar sanu is the best singer in India, without any idea of SPB, KJY like, they chant about RD.Burman ( I agree he was very great), without any idea about IR, MSV, they love ARR though, but many of them are unaware of the fact ARR is a Tamilian, according to them Big Bachan / Dilip Kumar / Dharmender are the all India's greatest actor, what about Sivaji Ganeshan,
what the hell is going on?

I am am not talking about skin color( i personally dont prefer white but I think people cannot be foulted for preferring fair skinned glas.. whats wrong!!!!! ) but in looks and body northie heroines are light years ahead.
I dont care if I piss off tamil gals but that seems to be true

bharath: Therein lies the problem. You say "fat and not good looking". There is a (large) crowd which says "fat, consequently good looking". They are the ones who made Jothika, Nagma, Monisha Koirala, Kushboo, and Mumtaj into TN's answer to Ingrid Bergman. But my point is not even getting into whether fat or slim defines good looks. My contention is indha gOrangaLa vida lakshanamaa thamizh naattula poNgaLE illiyaa?

are'nt tamilians have the same feeling against non-tamilians? This is an honest open question. how often have we (inclu. many in this discussion group) have welcomed a non-tamil MD? The first question is whether he/she is tamil or not? What the heck man? We want all tamilians to be well accepted all over the world, but we dont want anybody in our backyard. Wake up.

"Tamizhs are happy with the imports and our exports have to be painted (literally, I have watched this happen to Rekha during the making of Ek Hi Bhool - another remake of a tamizh film (but no Saritha) - where she was sprayed with "rose" foundation cream.)What gives? Are tamizhs ashamed of being dark?"
Naaz, I agree wit the point made by suresh in the other thread that discussing colour will only bring u in circles. Women prefering to be fair (a phenomenon I personally find puzzling) has more psychological reasons than mere racism. Most women are trained to believe tat they are never good enuf (looks-wise). Many white women spend tonnes to go to tanning parlours every winter. Can u hence conclude they are ashamed of belonging to the white race? I dont think so.
Thin women get implants, fat women try to lose weight. Women wit straight hair get them curled, women wit curly hair get them straightened. Women wit thick eyebrows get them trimmed. Women wit barely any eyebrows (eg chinese) get eyebrow implants. I even know several chinese gals who have gone for double eyelid surgeries.
Where does tat bring us? Most women have a prefixed notion of beauty in their mind, which they pathetically try to pursue, sometimes to their own detriment (IMO). Culture plays a role too. Sth Indians in general praise women for being fair. 'sevappa lachanama irukka' for example. So dark-skinned beauties r trained to think from young tat they have to make themselves fairer to be accepted. This goes beyond racism, which I think is too simple and too one-dimensional a conclusion. It's quite sad.

Tamils are sad that Tamil youth prefre Hindi songs than Tamil
North Indian city folks are worried that their children prefer English music to Hindi...

Whynot - White women love tans (as do white men) But the can also lose those tans in the winter. Who wants to be "dark" all year long??
Black women (and michael jackson) have no such choice. Secondly, I am not about to bust the beauty-myth here. Notions of ethnicity and bias are more than just skin-deep.It is about socialisation of women within a universal partriarchal context, of which, the film and cosemtic industries are just an one "visible" example. But a discussion of the origins and entrenchment of such attitudes of racism, sexism, linguistic prejudice and ethinic stereotypes/bias within the "indian" film industry, and the "indian" sexist attitudes towards women (cf. bharath's post above) would be considered "social sciences" in such fora, so let's not go there. Posters here seem happy to skim the surfaces of issues in threads, and that is precisely why none of the connected "investigative" concerns go beyond Bollywood Dreams and Kollywood Complaints. If you ask me, that is really the sad thing - To lull ourselves into believing that we are incapable or are uninterested of understanding or debating these issues in any sort of in-depth/analytical way. So, we choose the easy option: we allow it all to devolve into a maudlin greatest so-and-so and latest-so-and-so. Makkal's choice. Fun all around.
What I was discussing with suresh (of which the re-posted bit here was just one sliver,) was the terms of "acceptability" and "engagement" - particularly, between the "south" and the "north" film industry. There are huge differences in what is celebrated in front of the camera and behind it.
The middle-class "southern" cinema/music consumer is quick on the take with perceived and real slurs and insults (which are at times based on ethnicity and at times on "bottomline,") and yet does precious little to mobilise or counter these notions/assaults. Letter-writing only gets you so far. It is the so-called big-wigs and influential "film-makers" from the "south" (who, I am informed by suresh, are now "swaying" Bollywood and dealing with them on their "own" terms) that have to take a stand and say: Hey, these are gross double-standards...We don't need your Nandita Das - dark and beautiful as she may be - and neither do we want the wondrous tamizh of Sadhana Sargam and Sonu Nigam - we're quite happy with our dark and beautiful lot. And yes, ou singers are really very good in Tamizh too, so no thank you. Why hasn't MR or Kamal or IR or said a word about this? On the contrary, these individuals have gone out of their way to recruit such imports. Is this not telling?
But, when a whole people can accept a Rati Agnihotri to be a "tamizh" from the hinterlands - then I guess, we have demonstrated a long time ago how far gone we are, not just in our loss of "identity", but in the internalisation of racism. Yep, its one-dimensional for sure, Whynot. But that's what complacency and hypocrisy (charming combination that!) begets.

What is not there in south.
We really have Abundant Talents but Not utilized Properly.
First Let’s take the Case of Actresses.
Actresses introduced by KB were made to speak Tamizh And they were Excellent
Sujatha,Saritha etc.
All Thamizh Origin Actresses like Revathy,Sukanya,Radhika were Able to Perform Well as well as Speak Thamizh.
But what happ?? Did they Get more Chances .. No..
Actresses imported from North Never tried to Speak thamizh except Suvalakshmi who learned thamizh but she didn’t get more chance because she didn’t compromise(for Glamour).
As some one Mentioned above if we import Madhuri Dixit,Nasrudeen Shah,Nana Patekar that’s good
They Will take Strain to Learn Thamizh because they Are actors ie Acting not anything else.
And Coming to Music .. We have Legends here in all Categories
For Carnatic All Originators Were from South we Had Exellent Musicians like Maharajapuram,GNB,Madurai mani,MLV etc
We have MSSubbulakshmi,Balamurali,,Sembai,KJY etc who hav no matches at all.
IN Film Music From Olden days till now How many MD’s with Great Talents like
SVV,GR,SMS,Sudharsanam,TGL,MSV,TKR,IR,Vkumar,Adinarayanarao to today’s ARR,Harris Jeyaraj
All are Excellent and no where Less than Naushad,SDB,RDB,Lax-Py,bappilahari to todays Nadeem shravan, anumalik, jatin lalit etc..
And in the Case Of Singers MKT,PUC,TMS,PBS,KJY,AMR,SPB,Mano,ArunMozzhi,TRMahalingam,Trichy loganthan,Sirkazhi GR,CSJeyaraman,S.Nsurendar
P.Susheela,MLV,Leela,Jikki,Janaki,Jamuna rani,M.Srajeswari,Ap.komala,Mrvijaya,B.vasantha,P.APEriyanayagi,L.R.Eswari,Chitra, Swarnalatha,Suajtha,Anuradha Sreeram,Suanandha,Subha,sindhu,Harini,Bhavatharini
All are Talented .
Lyricists like Kannadhasan,Vaali,Mayavanadhan,Pattukottai,Thanjai ramiah doss,Marudhakaasi,Udumalai Narayana Kavi, K.p.kamatchi,t.k Sundara Vathiyar, k.m sheriff,Vairamuthu,Pazhani Bharathi, Pulamai pithan,Muthulingam,MuMetha,Arivumathi
Among these Vaali Was able to Adjust./Adapt to all Generations like Anand bakshi(recently Expired)
Whose latest hit was Taal/Mohabatein
But Frankly Speaking Are these Talented Artists Are Recognised up to the Mark,.
We can say “People have recognized that’s enough”
But a South Indian it’s Each one of us’s Duty to Give voice to Recognize these Legends
Padmashree/Padma booshan etc goes for any artist in North Within short span of time but for a south Indian it’s a longing Dream
Psusheela, IR, MSV,Vaali Are Not Recognized @ the National Level
When National Award Was CREated for Female Play back Singer P.Susheela Was the First to Collect that
(1969 Film Uyarndha Manidhan Song Nalai indha Velai paarthu Lyric:vaali)
how much Talents Available in North is Available in South Too

Raj
If we talk about talents here someone will come up with a Sivaji film like "Vetrikku oruvan" and bang on generalise that Tamil films are bad ,actors are fat, they overact.(Generally these men take little efforts to understand the history)
They will be the II generation guys settled in places like Mumbai,Delhi etc.
I have pointed out in another thread to these men the dialogue by Dilip Kumar in the movie Kranti.
"If the wood has refused to become the handle there wont be axes to cut further wood".
People forget that TF with just talents from one single state gets to fight an equal battle with hindi films which gets talents from all the states..SD Burman from Assam in the east to Paresh Rawal from Gujarat the west and Sridevi from TN in the south to Dev anand(Talent!oh!he was just good looking ) from Himachal in the north.
But TF has come up with aces yet dumped because of the number game.CN Annadurai had made the perfect remark.
"If numbers are the indicators why did peacock was named the national bird when Crows outnumber them from Kashmir to Kanyakumari".
Northies will fight and when they are sure of losing comes the remark"Salaah Madarasi".
Personally i have faced these casual racial remarks even from high officials.
