I would like to get the list of Tamil Films for which Salil Chowdhury has scored the music.His most
memorable films in other language films are also welcome.

  I find the responses in this thread to be real heart-warming,because Salil Choudhry is one MD who ,I feel,did not get the recognition which was his due.He was always there in the Hindi film music world,right from the 40s,but only in the fringes(it is another matter that we southerners were able to hear so much of him here because he was sidelined in Hindi).One thing which stands out in his music is the melody component.He was very much influenced by the WCM.He was also good at ethnic Bengali music.As a result,we music lovers got an excellent blend of music which goes through the ears to the heart.
  Nithin,one question ...
  I heard a song from his last movie in Malayalam(*ing Manoj K.Jayan).It seems to be a fishermen oriented story and the song starts with the words "oru then mazhayai paadu kaatte karale".Can you tell me the film's name,if you know?The song was absolutely enchanting.

  It was really great to find a place for Salilda in TFM. It shows that lovers of TFM are game for all types of music. Salilda was one of the earliest to mix WCM with HFM. I think the only other person who did it with same amount of success was IR. Infact there is a great freshness in all Salilda's songs. He could turn a Mortzart Symphony into a hit Hindi film song (Itna Na Mujh Se- Chaaya). He is also supposed to have used a Russian folk song and that tune too is great (Darti Kahe Pukar Ke from "Do Bigha Zameen). There is no doubt that he was one of the great MD of HFM. A must hear list of Salil's movies would be :

  3. Maya
  4. Chaaya
  5. Do Bigha Zameen
  6. Parakh
  7. Rajnigandha
  
  Some outstanding melodies. (Try these even if you are not into HFM)

  2. Main Ne tere liye (Mukesh - Anand)
  3. Kahin door (Mukesh - Anand)
  4. Na Jiya Lage Na (Lata - Anand)
  5. Zindagi (MannaDey - Anand)
  6. O Sajna (Lata -Parakh) (Outstanding song)
  7. Aaja Re Pardesi (Lata - Madhumathi)
  8. Ja Re Ja Re Ud Ja Re (Lata - Maya)
  9. Ithna Na Mujh Se (Talat/Lata - Chaaya)
  10. Aaja Re Aa (Lata - Do Bigha Zameen)
  
  There are ofcourse countless other tunes. Try these first and you will be fully captivated.
  
  Other HFM MDs who gave gorgeous melodies include MadanMohan and Roshan. Of course they had nothing to do with TFM

  I know Salil composed for a few more Malayalam movies after the 1976 Kamal movie (no not Madanotsavam) I do not recollect hearing the song you are looking for. It is my goal to collect all of Salil's and IR's songs and it appears to me I can get busy all my life. Thank God. I wish I could jump out with the name of the song.
  
  I am also looking for some Mallu songs of the 70's. I will email you and then go from there.
  
  As Suresh also says, glad to have Salil in TFM. For one reason, he is the closest we can compare with IR. Each is an institution.

  I just heard a Hindi film song (of the 50s, I think) a few days ago, that had music by Salilda. The song was sung by Talat Mehmood. The song had the words "Raat mein kya kya...". It was a wonderful song, Salilda's stamp was very much there. Does anyone know the name of that movie ?

  I was kind of surprised to see a discussion about Salilda here. Anyway, if I am not mistaken, did he not compose the music for Azhiyatha kolangal (Balu Mahendra movie). I remember a song Poo vannam in that movie, set in the raga Sivaranjani, which was very very different from normal songs composed in this raga. Can somebody verify that he was the music director for that movie??

  Thanks for the links on Salilda. It was really interesting to read various aspects of his life, and his personality. By the way, I found the answer to the question that I had about the film that had the Talat Mehmood song "Raat ne kya kya..." from the articles in the site you'd given.
  It seems the song is from the movie "Ek Gaon Ki Kahani" (1957).

  Salil Chowdhury composed another tamil film (dubbed from Malayaalam??) KamalGAS & jarena Wahab starer (paruvamazhai??)
  "kaalamagaL meedai naadagam" is a song in that film.
  (I think) another song in that film is "maadap puRaavE vaa."
  
  BTW, 'azhiyaatha koolangal' song "naan eNNUm pozhuthu" is one of my favorites (in the similar sentiment I feel while listening "pasumai niraintha ninaivugalee" of "raththath thilakam."

  Yes, Salil C. was the MD for "Kadapuram." It came out around 95 or 96, not sure exactly becuase my audio tape jacket is missing the date. But it is around that time definitely.

  This thread proves that for music there is no limits.I guess our aim is to enjoy good music irrespective of any language.
  
  Compared to any other Film industry, Hindi has produced gems of Music directors. Salil is not doubt among them other than C. Ramachandran, Madan Mohan, Rajesh Roshna, RD, SD Burmans, Shankar Jaikishen, LK- Pyarelal, OPNayyar ( The man of rythm), Naushad, Not to forget Ravindra Jain.
  
  Even HFM is suffering nowadays with Xerox Machines like AnuMalik and co.
  
  Salil's music will talk for him. No need to mention about him.
