S Karthik
Truly disappointed :)))
I have certain doubt which you can attempt answering, for old times sake!
1.Did anyone prevented IR from composing for Ads in the past, present or future?
If my guess is right,he did compose for an ad "vijay-Complex Fertilisers" -must be in 1976-77.Sung by SPB-SJ it used come around 8.40 PM.
It all depends on how a person looks at it.IR must have thought there was more scope in Cinema music - a beaten track.Rehman, always willing to experiment chose to enter the jingles. He had understood the challenge in composing for an ad - a split 20 seconds to capture the viewer.
Now that we all know he move back and forth between Ads & Film music comfortably - (Recent Air tel). Why cant IR experiment with Ads now?You can suggest to Balki that he ask IR to compose for a jingle now...not an expensive business proposal!!!!!!!

ambleen must one of those desperate IR fans around.
Some time ago, he claimed that chinna chinna aasai was inspired from IR.
Recently he said it was MSV.
And now from western sources.
What next? CCA inspired from Yuvan Shankar Raja's song? :)

ambleen,
Thanks for the link. You are great coming up with such links(wonder how you did that!). Guess now all the ARR fans would be sutthe adaikikittu irrupanga after such proof :)
Vaathiyaar,
Sorry you feel that way but many critics and fans alike already knew then that chinna chinna aasai was a typical IR style song but presented with computer instrument. It was already discussed to death long time ago. Please leave it at that. Nobody can change that unless ARR go back in time and change the whole style of that song. :)

Hi All,
Just came across a discussion in this thread on IR's numbers being used in ads.
I think I can help.
1. Balki is Tamilian
2. Balki is an Ilayaraja fan. I know. I was at Lowe and he was my boss.
3. The use of the music is not illegal. The rights were bought and the music used subsequently.
Hope that clarifies things.

Now, you could call Entha poovilum vaasam undu as a copied song.
You could call Darling I love you from Priya as a copied song.
You could confirm that IR copied Harry Belafonte's song, just like he copied the song from Sound of Music.
But in good heavens, where was Chinna chinna aasai copied from?

the first line of the charanam from the song "Roja koottam" from the movie "roja kottam" is a reuse of the "Taal" song "Ishq bina"'s charanam which goes "neeche ishq hai, upar rab hai".
I wonder why Bharadwaj is looking upto hindi tunes for inspiration nowadays.

ARR never wastes a song - Once it becomes an hit in Tamil, he floods the market in telugu, then in Hindi. His style of Copying from one language to the other - as been very sincerely adapted by newcomers such as Mani Sharma, Bharatwaj & others. Exception to this is IR. I use to wonder why IR has not remixed his great collection of Malayam Songs into Tamil.

Solo,
Exactly. IR is not up for publicity or fame. That is why he will always be an exception. Whereis the rest are kinda of just desperate for fame & fortune but they end up getting hit by rotten eggs.

Solo, looks like you don't have much knowledge of Telugu and Malayalam songs. Go listen to the 80s songs and you will find IR doing double takes - from Tamil - to another language - and back to Tamil again.
The only reason why you can't find his songs in Hindi was because there were no takers.
Simple as that.

Never be a goon comparing anyone in India to IR. ARR has got his own respect. IR got his own respect. But never compare a student to a pioneer and a born genius. People who do compare are the ones who listen to the pop music and then fade away together with it. And those who don't compare are the ones who admire both pop music and western bgms and classical music and they will be here to stay just as IR music stays with us. All those ARR regulars who used to pound on IR here have now disappeared into oblivion just as his music has. They got nothing to talk abt now. They are now no where to be found. And i'm not refering to the lollus, reuben cannon Associates, p!@#$%ns or dinesh bhathia.

Have added the original, from which HJ has drawn inspiration to compose RHTDM's Dil Ko, also probably being used in 'Kakka kakka'.

Pradeep: That Feugo lift is pretty blatant. But the actual tune of that enna seiyya song sounds very familiar, wonder if thats inspired from some other song of Bond!

You are right Mythila that Marathi song has pretty heavily inspired Deva.
But the other song "Puththam Puthiya..",although inspired by "Yeh vadha" song [originally a R.D Burman song ,but was popularised by the remix hit]
has a lot of interesting elements in it.I'm very sure Deva has put in a lot of hardwork. The humming is a blatant lift ,but as the song progresses,it positively changes track.Maybe I missed intricate technical details, but it sure sounds a "healthy" inspiration.
BTW can anyone list "healthy" inspirations from Deva....

Yes, like I had pointed out in some other thread, the humming in the song "suntha hai mera jiya" is a definite inspiration from MSV-TKR song that goes "kallellam maanikka kallaaguma, kalai ellam kangal sollum ..".
In the recent Harris Jayaraj release Leysa Leysa there is song sung by Karthik which goes "aval ulaga azhagiyE". In the middle the music appears to be a direct lift from an antiquated song "chittu kuruvi chittu kuruvi sEdhi theriyuma? Ennai vittu pirinja kanavan innum veedu thirumbalE". A friend pointed out this to me.
I was aghast to learn that even the title song of Leysa Leysa (which is otherwise very very very good) at places reminded one of the song in Lagaan sung by Lata (the humming part).
The song PorallE ponnu thaayi which is a stunning tune, has a chorus part which appears to resemble
something I heard in Kids Pop, when it was advertized during World Cup 1999.
Does anyone think the song "Enthan vaanin kaadhal nilavE" that appears in Kaadhal Virus slightly resembles a Hindi song that goes "gharu thE nikkal Thehi" (pardon my Hindi)?
