Simply mind-blowing
November 20
Ajay Devgan and Vivek Oberoi can’t stop raving about the songs of Mani Ratnam’s Yuva. “A.R. Rahman and Mani Sir and dynamite together,” says Vivek on the sets of Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria’s Masti, and adds, “The six songs Rahman has recorded for the film are mind-blowing.”
Ajay Devgan, his co-star in Yuva and Masti, uses the same words to describe them. Incidentally, when the film was launched earlier this year, Mani Ratnam had decided not to have a single song in it.
Vivek also feels that Abhishek Bachchan’s is the best role and best performance in the film. “That guy’s career will take off in a big way after Yuva,” predicts Vivek.

"Baadal"....yup I saw the trailor....the trailor has some dialogues in it unlike "Anjaana Anjaani" & "Kabhi Neem Neem".The trailor is very cute...the dialogues are pretty cute actually.I had always thought that the Ajay-Esha pairing was pretty odd....but after seeing the trailor...I've completely changed my opinion:)

Devagan was a bad choice though some of friends say he can act which i don't believe.

C~P,
Nee kindal pannalum enaku onnum kavalai illa...yenna athu Mani sir film dialogue:P
Well...I personally feel tht Ajay is a good choice as well....Mani initially had ideas of casting Bobby Deol in Ajay's role & Hrithik is AB jr's role....Thank Heavens it didnt materialise:)

Bobby?!?!? YUCK!
As for Hrithik doing a gangster role, nope.. i dont feel he'd be intense enuff. If Mission Kashmir gave us an indication abt how he'd play Lallan... Mani did the right thing! :)

Curses,
Actually i don't know who would be the best choice for Surya's role, But in tamil Surya is the perfect choice.
I haven't watched Bhagat singh but i did watch Ishq and Ajay was a deadpan, another movie was HDDC sanam, Ajay wasn't brilliant even if his role needs to be underplayed :)
Even Salman Khan was convincing when he lets Ash go away!

ajay devgan is one of the most talented actors in hindi films these days..in fact people started recognizing AD only after HDDC. Gangajal padam paarunga sir...bhagat singh parunga sir..khakee paarunga sir..company paarunga sir..
ishq was once upon a time made movie..early days in his career..
AD is not fit for romantic roles..he is fit for action and serious stuff..

The "Sandai koli", "Nenjam Ellam" songs are very good. They are catchy and immediate success. I like it very much. But the others are not upto the standard of Rahman I think. some songs have only beat sound not much vocal("Dol Dol", "Yaakai Thiri"). Adnan Sami's voice is good. But he kills the tamil pronounciation of words like "konjam", "manjam", etc in the "Nenjam Ellam" song. Vairamuthu must be a hurt man by this. But nowadays, he doesn't care it anyway. beacuse, he doesn't give any interviews crticising the musicians nowadays.

And, Who Said Mind Blowing?
You got to be kidding.
"Roja", "Duet", "Thiruda Thiruda", "Bombay", "Alipayuthey" and some other movies of Rahman were really mind blowing. But definitely not "Ayutha Eluthu". I think Rahman is too busy in his international assignments. So, this time around Mani Ratnam hasn't got the best out of Rahman.

Curious about 'Yuva'? Some pointers
Saturday April 24 2004 19:48 IST
IANS
MUMBAI: Mani Ratnam's "Yuva" is said to be based on Mexican film "Amores Perros", which was released as "Love's A Bitch" in English in 2000.
Both "Amores Perros" and "Yuva" show three different stories connected by one traumatic accident.
"Yuva" is set to sizzle this summer, the music of the film is doing phenomenally well...and that's not all! For the first time the audiences will get to see Ajay Devgan and Esha Deol together along with the magical chemistry of Vivek Oberoi and Kareena Kapoor.
The combination of Kareena and Vivek is dynamite because they define youth, beauty and vibrancy and exude a certain kind of freshness that appeals to the youth of today.
One can easily identify with Vivek's character in the film as a young man who wants to go to the US and has dreams of earning lots of money.
Kareena is sporting a new look in this film. Sans heavy makeup, she plays the role of a happy-go-lucky girl who wants to settle down and start a family.
And together they are smashing!
Abhishek Bachchan, perhaps for the first time in his career, plays a role that has negative shades. He plays Lallan, who has always disobeyed the law and broken the rules, while Vivek plays the role of Arjun.
Ajay Devgan and Esha Deol are working together as a couple for the first time. Being an intense actor, Ajay is perfect for the character he plays. He lives for the moment and fights for what he believes is right.
Esha Deol's role on the other hand is one of a romantic. She believes in her love and will do anything to make him happy.
British Asian singer Shahin Badar features on a track from "Yuva" called "Dol Dol".
Yuva is also being made in Tamil as "Ayutha Ezhuthu" and will be dubbed in Telugu.
Madhavan, Shaam and Siddharth play the three leading men in the Tamil version, with Trisha, Sneha and Esha Deol as the female leads.

From chorus line to star
Friday April 23 2004 14:21 IST
Annie Thomas
Just 23 and playback singer Karthik has already managed to capture the hearts of many a young girl as well as conquer all the four south Indian languages with his voice. His latest conquest: Mani Ratnam’s bilingual film - the Tamil Aayitha Ezhuthu (Yuva in Hindi). Youth Express decided it was time to get to know the singer.
A pleasant and casual talker, in spite of the fact that it’s 10.30 in the night and he has just returned home after a three-hour concert with his guru and his mother is calling him for dinner. He says he was always passionate about singing, but never thought he would become a playback singer. ‘‘I got the chance to sing in the chorus for AR Rahman, through singer Srinivas, and my first song happened on the last day of the last exam in my last year of B Com.’’
Says Karthik: ‘‘The day I went for my first recording - December 18, 1999 - is a day I will always remember. I was meeting AR Rahman himself and the moment I met him I was totally zapped.’’
After one year of chorus singing, Karthik got his first solo break with Aasai Dosai, an immensely popular song from the movie Star. Since then there have been many hits for him, some his favourites among them, he says, are Girlfriend (from Boys; music director AR Rahman), Aval Ulaga Azhagi (from Lesa Lesa; music director Harris Jeyraj), Oliye Therivathu (Azhagi; music director Illayaraja) and Thaeradi Veethiyil (from Run; music director Vidyasagar).
In Hindi, he has sung Dhaka Laga for the film Yuva, in Telugu for about 70 to 80 songs, well-known ones among them being for the movies Okkadu and Indira. In Malayalam, he has sung for Akale and Runway (music director Suresh Peters).
So how does our young singer chill out? ‘‘I sleep a lot. I’m a lazy person you know,’’ he says. Then, as a defence he adds, ‘‘Good sleep is very important to keep your voice in good shape too.’’ And when he is not recording or sleeping, he says, ‘‘I go out with my friends, on long drives, listening to some good music.’’
Even though he has established a career in singing, Karthik is not happy about the fact that he has not been able to complete his Masters degree. He says, ‘‘I had planned to do an MBA or CA, now I think I will study something that will help in my career. I will definitely make time and study further, because I believe in knowing my job well to do it well. I also want to make it really big as a singer.’’
A word of advice for youngsters, from the young guy himself: Who am I to give advice, but my suggestion to them would be if you want to become a singer, be qualified in some form of music, it helps. Be patient, be serious, be sincere, and success will come your way.
