Time to have some more fun?
What is this lyrics potti huh?Well we have all been witnessing the hidden talents of many of our DFers in the lyrics area. So i decided why dont we
have a small competition in terms of lyrics.
What we need to do?
I will give a popular tune and explain the situation for which this particular song was written. All you have to do is come out with entirely different lyrics(but it should be apt for that particular situation). You should write atleast one pallavi and one charanam. Do not use
English words and please refrain from vulgarity(we have many kavignars in Tamil cine world for that). Whoever comes out with the best set will be
selected as the winner.(the winner will be selected on the basis of nadai, content and tamizh usage)
Who will select the winner??Its going to me(hehehe-easy job:))and Rajaraman.
The winner will be given the responsibility to chose the next tune(only the next) and situation and he will join the panel of judes(!!)to select the next winner.
We invite all of you to join the fun and expose your hidden talents to world of TFM fans:)
Do it now:)

We are ready with next tune and situation:
tune: thottaal poo malarum thodaamal naan malarndhen(padagotti)
Situation: nothing much can be said as situation. This is another romantic song. Hero oru padagotti avarum avaroda love gramathu minnal Saroja devi paadira pattu.
Original lyrics:
thottaal poo malarum
thodaamal naan malarndhen
suttal pon sivakkum
sudaamal kann sivandhen
kangal padaamal kaigal thodaamal kaadhal varuvadhaillai
arugil varaamal alli tharaamal aasai viduvadhillai oh oh aasai viduvadhillai
Iruvar ondraanal oruvar endraanal

Just a suggestion from a passer-by, guys.
Most of the lyrics written here are really fantastic.
Of course, the advantage we have here is that we only have to write the lyrics (and that too just the pallavi and 1 charanam) for one song, at a time.
The "poor" lyricist OTOH has to do as many as the number of days in a week or even more. I am not making excuses for these poets, but just thought that they are really trying under this limitation.
But you guys are good.
But here is the thought. Do we really need to improve on good lyrics - such as paalum pazhamum, poongkaatru thirumbumaa, etc?
Why don't you pick up a song which has a good tune but spoilt by its lousy lyrics. Wouldn't that be a challenge? An example would be Athaanda ithandaa...
I am getting out of here............. :-))

You see guys, if a simpleton like NOV comes along and composes lyrics for such a beautiful song as Thottaal poo malarum, it may just end up like this:
Unezhil naan kandein
Kavi solla thodangi vittein
Vaanaththu pon madhiyoa
(Nee) vaigai nathi poongkaatroa
Kannukul neeyum nenjaththil naanum ondraai seirnthiduvoam
Iruvarum indru inai piriyaamal kaalaththei vendriduvoam
Oh... kaalaththei vendriduvoam

NOV,
I second everything you've said here. In fact, when it was my turn to pick songs I picked, "Hai rabba" from Jeans and "Chandiranai thottathu yaar Armstrongaa?" from Ratchagan, both songs needed their Pallavi and first Charanam rewritten.
Ramki's feeling was that, many people would not have heard these songs. He has a point there, but I still think one can rewrite new unheard songs, just by following the syllable count of the original.
Another reason we see many classics here is because they stem from rich situations which present a great opportunity for a writer that simple love songs don't. I vote for a mix of old and new songs so we get a rich and varied participation.
Chadrasekaran,
Good start. I'll be back with mine later. Hope to see more new faces here.

Chandra good choice.
Ramki,
you left out one "kala" in the 1st line and one "silu" in the 5th line. Are we writing to the original tune or the given lyrics?

on: Tue Jan 5 14:10:27 EST 1999
Udhya, I think Ramki inadvertently missed those words. Please write to the original tune/lyrics.
