Naveen:
Candid comments here.
Pudhu maappillaikku:
The opening does not seem to be exact. And even I feel that there is a loss of timing in many places. I dont know if it is just apparent or real. u may want to check on that.
poottuukkaL pOttaalum:
faster than the original. But superbly played ! Great job.
kaNNaamoochchi yEnada:
U may want to check on the lead tune once again. I feel u are working on ways to sound classical with piano. Good effort.
kaNNaaLane:
this is a difficult song since it has a beat cycle not so obvious ( in the charanam). Your lead play and the support is very good but u may want to check on the bass track a bit.
Compact Symphony in A Major - 1st Mov:
It sounds nice but a player of your calibre can make it sound better. Having listend to your compositions for quite sometime and being a true admirer of your skills on piano, I think u can definitely do a more appreciative job. One suggestion : U may wish to break the beat cycle and fill it with better "meter"
IF I remember right, u were the one who arranged both punnagai mannan theme and Ilaiyanila pozigiradhe long time back. I think u played them to perfection and can do a great job in the songs to come.
Regards
MS

True. It is indeed a challenge to convey the right emotions - and you were successful. Good job at that!
Naveen - Pudhu Mappillai in a ragtime is nice man. You have played it well. I understand how difficult it is to play few melodies in a "strict" ragtime, but you brought it out well - although u can improve a lot you know that.
BTW I am thinking of playing a ragtime this recital in November- "Maple Leaf Rag" by Scott Joplin - I am sure u know this piece. I am also playing with my friend Four-Hands "Humoresque" by Dvorak and (my favorite) "Rhapsody in Blue (a very simple version for piano)" by Gershwin

swamiji: you got it. pudhu mAppiLLaikku in ragtime (actually it's one of naveen's weakness :-). he tends to convert everything to ragtime.) even the punnagai mannan song vAn mEgam is ragged :-) in naveen's hand. Reindeer too becomes faster and jumpier. anyways,... i like it a lot.
btw, it's time you show off you skills swamiji.

MS,
Thanks for taking time and write about my piano works. Regarding bass part, most of the times I follow my own left hand bass. I'll take care of the other mistakes that you have pointed out. Yes I sequenced that Punnagai Mannan Midi file. But Illayanila was sequenced by our Swamiji.
Swamiji,
Maple Leaf Rag is a nice piece. Yeah.. Once I played Entertainer & Maple leaf rag during a wedding reception in Virginia. All the best for your Recital.
some tips: If you are playing a simplified version of Maple Leaf Rag (mostly this one will be in G Major with minimum left hand jumps) then
you can play it easily. The original version is in Ab Major with quite long left hand jumps (from bass note (mostly in octave) to chord that is played on upbeat) This needs a little practise. Especially you may have to do a lot of landing practise. All the best.. 4 hands ah? yaaryaa andha adutha 2 hands... ;)

Other two hands is my friend Mukundan. We both learn from the same teacher. He himself is playing Debussy - dunno what piece but sounds cool.
Yeah, that is in Ab. I am struggling with Bb jumps in the Trio! Like 2 octaves. Needs lot of practice. Hopefully will learn to land before the recital!
My composition? I am scared man! Especially with all of you guys commenting here!!
Actually, I am trying to finish Swathi Thirunaal's "thillana" with some "Jazzy" arrangement. I am yet to do a lot of stuff. I am like confused what to do with Thathi-gina-tha last piece with odd timings(dunno what u call in Carnatic). Does anyone have the mp3 of malayalam pic with same name? It has that song, I am not able to find it. Please let me know.

(3) mokshamu galadha
(4) pannakEndra sayana
(5) paramapurusha jegadeeswara jeya jeya

Thanks Jay. It is not too late. If you spend lot of time for practising, I'm sure that you can play piano well.
Swamiji,
Everyone is eager to listen to your piano playing. if possible upload the video clip of your performance.

Yeah, I have videotaped my first recital. Is it possible to mpeg it? I don't know how.
MS: I still don't know the name of the song. I am not sure if it is in the list you provided. The song is in the movie "Swathi Thirunal" with Hindi lyrics.I am sure u have heard this piece. It is a Thillana. If I dont find it, I will go buy instrumental version.

RJAY:
I listened to "Udhayamagum" song. Enjoyed it thoroughly...The best part of the song is the emotion that the singer added at 2:10 - composer instructed or singer added himself - Great.

Thanks Aditya
The singer Suresh Ramachandran has an excellent voice and Bhava. And he rehearsed the song 500 times before he sang in Sridhar's Recording studio!

Hello all,
I've uploaded 'Entertainer Rag' to my yahoo briefcase. http://briefcase.yahoo.com/naveenmusic
The mp3 file is under Music folder. Your comments are welcome.
Swamiji,
As you are working on Ragtime, you may enjoy this piece. I played this Rag in my Roland Synth which I bought recently. Let me know how it sounds.

Naveen

BTW. This piece is composed by a Great Afro-American Ragtime Composer Scott Joplin. This poor man was not recognized properly when he was alive. He died because of frustration and mental illness in 1917. But his Entertainer piece became famous only in 1973 as it was played as theme music in a movie named 'Sting'. Aiyoo Paavam!!

Friends,
I have uploaded a classical sonata - Threat to Peace at
http://www.mp3.com/rjay
It was built using real orchestral samples and loops. (This was the one that was posted to a contest earlier under the title Day the bombs fell and successfully missed the first prize :O
Comments welcome,

I would like to know if they were all loops and you made them by yourself. I am extremely thrilled when I heard it. Good Job.
More Later...

Naveen, very nice job - although I would have liked to hear this with a real piano. Is there any more ragtimes u composed? Please record those with a real piano if possible as keyboard sounds more "romantic". Anyway, Roland's piano sound is so much better than the Triton.
RJay- I have heard your piece before. Sounds awesome!!

Naveen and Sound Aficianado Swamiji, I just want to know what's this Ragtime? Is this a composition Style or a Song by itself. If it's a style how do we identify a music as Ragtime?
Swamiji, this is a good time to give us an opportunity to listen ur Music - May be you could demonstrate the Ragtime style in your way! I think everybody is eager to listen your Music. It would be nice to taste the other side too:-)) Not just always reviewing but also reviewed;-)
Naveen! Roland XP-80??? Seems to have done good quality recording - Left hand playing was panned to Left and Right Hand Playing was panned to right. Is that how Piano recording is supposed to done? Wonderful Playing - Looking forward for many more...

Aditya

Aditya, I have been arranging a song for some time. It is almost done. But I am still not very impressed overall. I need some more time to make it sound to my satisfaction. And when it is done, I would welcome all your reviews.
