Ilayaraja's recycled hits

In a recent thread, discussion turned to the validity of recycling a tune from one language to another by the same composer. I believe it’s good to have a good tune in as many languages as possible since it may be new to someone who focuses in only one language. Many in the DF feel that a recycled tune shows the composer in a bad light. Anyway, during this discussion I realized that Ilayaraja has many Telugu to Thamizh and vice-versa recycled hits. Since we don’t have a list of all these remade movies and soundtracks, I would like to come up with a thorough list of all such movies by Ilayaraja along with details about singers who sang the original and the recycled tune.

  3) Gitanjali got dubbed into Tamil
  4) Guru Shishyulu is a remake of a Rajani/Prabhu movie ( of the song 'Kandupudichen Kandu..'.. _
  5) Indhrudu Chandhrudu was dubbed into tamil
  6) 'Yamaho Nee Yama' of 'Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari' was a recycle of Mathurai Marikozundu
  7) Kotha Jeevithaalu was a remake of Pudhiya Vaarpugal

  THis song was again recycled into a Karthik's film (karthik & soundarya). The song is "andha kanji kalayaththa vanji sumakkayile".
  
  Then Y blame only ARR for recycling and say that he has lost the ground.? yappa bais aavaradhukkum oru alavundu.

  maasi maasam was used by IR in the film "dharma chakram". It was beautifully resung by SPB- Chitra. There is more life in the telugu version.

  I don't see any similarity in the two songs
  that you have mentioned leave alone classifying
  one as recycled from other. Why do you have
  to defend ARR's recycling by finding fault with
  IR? If you take ARR's total no of songs till
  now, the recycling percentage will be very high and ARR will be far ahead of IR atleast in this (recycling) ! Looks like Sridhar and you will have wonderful time together (Sridhar in another thread wrote that Agni Nakshitram ran for its story and not for the music).
  
  We should have another thread to talk about ARR's recycled hits and also the source of his inspirations.

  "Sariyo Sariyo Naan Kaathalipathu" was from Engitte modhadhe (Vijaykanth, Shobhana, Kushbu.
  
  All songs from Unnal Mudiyum thmabi was dubbed in Telugu Rudraveena except for the Enna Samayalo song. In Telugu, it was a song to show that music was present everywhere in heroine's house, even in dog's barking (Kanakangi ragam!!), calling of postman, climbing the steps, etc.
  
  I want to know if there was a Tamil version of Swarnakamalam songs (K.Viswanath movie).

  RudraVeeNa came first (IR receieved Best MD National Award for this movie) and then it was made as 'Unnaal Mudiyum Thambi' in tamil - IR reused most of the songs.

  The songs exactly match. I don't beleive that you have heard both. In one private music program, the troupe played both the songs and showed the similarity. I didn't accuse IR of try to belittle him. I just put forth a genuine question. See, many songs that you say are recycles of ARR are not exact. Yes, there are ARR songs in which small parts here and there will resemble his old one, but what we are talking here is a complete recycle of songs. I need not have raised this issue here, but many made huge cry over STAR as poor being recycled stuff. I just wanted to clarify (myself ...ofcourse).

  Swarnakamalam was dubbed into Tamil a 'oru giraamaththu kuyil' or something like that. Not sure of the name. And VM wrote the lyrics!!! This dubbed version was released after the IR-VM fued. This is probably the latest movie in which VM wrote lyrics for IR's tunes.

  You must be referring to 'Megha Sandesham';
  Ramesh Naidu was the music director
  and this album is a must-buy for all music lovers.
  You might miss on the beauty of Devulapalli Krishna Sastry's lyrics, but it is still worth it for Ramesh Naidu's tunes and KJY's rendition.
  
  KJY's 'aakasa desaana' was must in the repertoires of all music troupes those days;
  In fact, Unni Krishnan, a big KJY fan, used to sing this song in light music competitions in his youth.

  Another recycle.
  
  "Pattu vanna selai kaari" from Engeyo ketta kural becomes, "sami koduththa varam" in poo mani. I don't thing the whole of the song is recyled, but the initial parts rembles. I just saw the former one in TV. I could relate it to the latter. Might be right or wrong.

  Again no traces of similarity in the songs you have mentioned. Also from the way you have written, you are not sure about what you are writing and on the top of it, are calling it recycle.
  
  And I stand by what I wrote yesterday about
  the other 2 songs.
  
  Only difference is you were very sure about that yesterday and not so sure today about these songs today.
  
  If you hear IR's music just for finding faults like which songs have been recycled from where, then it is better not to do that. You can hear your favourite unrecycled ARR's music and be happy about that.

  All these posts of with vacuous character add JUST to the dissent of a people who want "info" and not masterly opinions. Read the title of the thread and then write something related. You have a lot of other thread to eat, chew and spit. Spare those threads which define their objective in their description and please stop filling these with worthless content. IMO, it has become some kind of a pattern to
  
  (1) make a statement
  (2) let somebody comment
  (3) defend what you have said
  (4) try to tell the one who comments that he is wrong
  (5) have the tiff go on till you have the last word
  
  This is comparable with (high) school kids trying outwit each other in an immature fashion but with "english" and false diplomacy.

  has been dubbed to Tamil ?
  or have the songs been reused in Tamil ?
  This is another Vamsi/IR combination with excellent songs.

  in rudra veena there are atleast 3 songs which did not make in tamil.
  the nanjai undu song's equivalent in telugu is such a melodious number.atleast ten times more melodious.
  another song where chiranjeevi is welcomed into shobana's house-excellent mix of carnatic and wcm(it goes randi randi..)
  there is another song called cheppalani undhi which was not there in tamil.
  the song kaveri mangai -was a small one in original.this was a bigger song in telugu sitara with a different charanam.
  in telugu alaigal oivadhillai,vizhiyil vizhundhu song was composed entirely new to become saagara sangamame-sung by spb.
  the song venagaya saambaarum became the replacement for vaadi en kappankizhange's situation.
  chinnamanikkuyile went to another telugu song-but the interludes were completely different.
  olangal songs never made it to tamil.(velambal kelum-what a song...)
  I always try to get IR's songs in telugu-and also his original telugu songs.his tunes sound atleast 10 times even better in telugu.he has given some of his career best songs in telugu-and he is held in such reverence there.so many websites offering his songs.there is one internet radiostation which only plays his songs all the time-these sites are all by very young chaps-as one chap says in his site-this is for my religion called IR's music
