As all of you well known about the arrogance of them.
There are some more: Both were at their peak during 1991 to 1993. Their drastic downfall started in 1994,1995. Any more thoughts?

comment,
Iam not saying its ARR's fault. He did work in rhythm & Sangaman, which didnt have real heavy weights accosiated with it.
I am saying its better not to get restricted to KSR, Kathir, Rajni, BR lobby. ( Prabu deva & KT konjumon are not there anymore for good). Like ram gopal varma, moved with IR, keeravani, ARR, sandeep chowta let others also move on. In fact ram gopal varma insisted that sandeep is not his long term MD.
Take a director like surya, I was impressed with kushi, except for few drawbacks. But, it deserves music by ARR and ARR deserves it too.

its tough for a small person to get a big fish to do work for him.... such things happen rarely and happen to only talented people...
suceeding in a big mans world is what competition is all about... if a newcomer is so easily fovored for the sake of charity( or else MD's judgment) he wudnt go thro the competition the others went thro...
kk... u mentioned a very important thing abt inspiration. thats precisely my point... people like rajeev menon, suresh menon are not good directors ..they r pretenders. small people cannot or atleast dont have a reputations of providing MD's to make an inspirations sound score..
which is why ARR does not prefer them. why does mani's movie and shankars movie work wonders? ...its because of the inspiration they provide ...and also most importantly.. they give good movies and good movies propel the music along with it....
plus dont dismiss big names as if they are just names and nothing else... big names mean big talent and comptence and thats the reason why they r chosen ..
if a small guy is worth enugh .. he will get a.r.rehamn. shankar was a small guy when he got ARR.

This thread has been atrted by sombody who believes that IR is an arrogant person. I totally disagree with that view. You just take into account the numbar of films he has worked with and the directors, lyricists with whom he was associated with. How can an arrogant person with a lot of head weight would have worked with so many people over more than two decades! People like Balu Mahendra and Kamal have continously worked with him not just one or two films, but several spanning twenty years. The only known bad point with IR was his pulic fight with Vairamuthu. I do feel that IR was more against vaira than the reverse. But we do not know what happened with between them. Anyhow nobody is perfect, and IR was a human being. WHEN ORDINARY MORTALS LIKE US HAVE OUR OWN EGO, A PERSON OF IR'S CALIBRE, GENIUS AND ACHIEVEMENT IS TOO SIMPLISTIC TO BELIEVE. This is considering is back ground too. An ordinary villager, does not speak English or Hindi. White-clad. Introduced into filmdom by Panchu Arunachalam for an ordinary, black and white movie(though Color movies were in vogue that time). All songs were folk based. Still he gave an unbelivable variety , and redefined Rerecording.
NOw take a person like ARR. City bred. Introduced by Mani Rathnam.Hi-tech. And all the more, accepted by Hindi filmdom. What else do yo need. If a person is certified by Bollywood, he becomes great. hence when vaira muthu made some statemenmts against him, he was thrown out and was replaced by Vaali. And this is not arrogance.
All that i wnated to impress was, contrary to the popular belief, IR is an extremely simple man. That is why he is great.

bharath,
please listen to the song, "Solai kuyile" form "Ponnu Oorukku Pudhusu" . the scene is simple. A dusky village girl(Saritha) ( not a Ms Universe like Aishwarya Rai) riding a cycle and singing, admiring the nature surrounding her.(no, the scene was not shot in New Zealand or Switzerland). The film is black and white. WHAT MOTIVATION CAN THIS SIMPLE SCENARIO PROVIDE A MUSIC DIRECTOR?
Bur IR composed this wonderful song for such a simple scenario. BECAUSE IR DERIVED INSPIRATION FROM WITH IN.
THAT'S WHY HE IS SO GREAT.

Sridhar,
'PoNNu Oorukku Pudhusu' is not a B&W movie :-)

Naga ,
you are right. May be i got the film name wrong. However it's only an example. What i wanted to stress was that the picturization and the actors were simple. Yet IR got the motivation to compose extra ordinary.
I can quote a number of situations where IR had composed out of the world for very ordinary situations. For example, "Kuyile , kvi Kuyile" from "Kavi Kuyil", i suppose. That was definetley
a balck and white film

THE SIMILARITY TO ARR AND JAYALALITHA
ARR IS POPULAR IN MUSIC
JAYALALITHA IS POPULAR IN POLITICS

there are one are two here and there, like arr working with kathir, suresh menon etc.
but mostly kamal has worked with big directors or himself only.
arul do you remember the episode when I used the same word?, I would have been pardoned if i had backed up someone blindly., people who trashed me and just made a heck out the this, are still here , some of them i know.

I have nothing against ARR - but the stupidity of the topic IR vs Jaya made me start this (though IR was at his peak in 80s not necessarily 1991-93).
ARR and NSRao both don't say much, both are quite unethical in what they do, one's in Jail - when will the other join? Anything else? - I know this is a stupid topic but compared to IR and Jaya comparison, this is great!
Another similarity - both of them rose to the top and were celeberated throughout India in their peak for no genius - just mediocrity and tight-lipped nature (leaving people to give benefit of doubt to their assumed talent/thoughtfulness)

bharath,
You didnt answer me yet, why should IR work maniratnam, in his first film? Going by your logic, Why mani a new comer cant first work with Sankar-Ganesh, then Manoj kiyan before coming to Ilayaraja?. That too Maniratnam only gave moderate hits (if not flops) with his first 3 films (one in kannada & 2 in tamil). Still raja worked with him in the forth movie.
BTW, Shankar was a small guy one, but KT kunjumon was a big producer. Also ARR was a newcomer then. If not for KTK would ARR work for praveen gandhi?.
And when did rajeev menon became a bad director? All his movies so far got great reviews even in north. Is this like IR fans turning against directors who left him?.
There is something called career success and sucess as a human. IR use to help new comers because he was found as a new comer by panju after a long struggle. He did not form his own lobby and went around it.
Its ARRs wish with whom he wants to work, but if he was to make better music he should work talented new comers also.

manirathnam simply wud have chosen the best in the buisiness for his MD. GV wud have had the money to buy IR for MD. please dont kid yourself that IR is doing some charity work out there bcoz some one chose him.
IR wasnt savvy enough to conserve himslef. look he has done close to 1000 movies and 600 of them trash bcoz he wanted to please vague people and also for MONEY ! dont even kid urself that earning monay wasnt an issue. IR may have lots of money now but at that time , having suffered for money he wud have known its value..
once mani got a timeslice of IR then it was upto him to inspire IR.
to say IR chose towork with mani is a misrepresentation of facts... IR was doing volume buisiness and mani was his customer.
ARR is conserving himself very well. he is reducing the quantity to conserve his quality( remember the age old saying)
well someone mentioned "solai kuyile" song.. well that was 1970's even if the director wanted to spend crores of rupess he wud'nt have been abl;e to make a "muqqabla" type of music video.. and just for the sake od example i can give "mellisaye" from Mr.Romeo a trash movie with a simple video..but what an internal inspiration
see u can always find examples for allcases its just ur bias that makes u think 1 is better than the other
rajeev menon is a copy cat all his movies r copies from old english musicals
his movies tr very very ordinaryu
both minsara kanavu and KKKK flopped. and if people in the north appreciate it doesnt mean its good.
people in the north r fed hindi movie everyday for them even a Films division production from south wud be great
