U Van the reviews are all based on the wrong songs and singer as printed by Thaalam .com
1.En Anbe - Shankar Mahadevan
2. Arupathu Ayiduchu - Maanikka Vinayagam and Malgudi Shuba
3.Ilami Ooru suttrum - Yuvan and Nithesh
4.Chinna Chinnathai - Hariharan and Yuvan
5.Eh Nanbane - Hariharan & Shankar Mahadevan
6.Love All day - Yuvan
7.Aadaatha Aatamellam - Karthik
8. Kannnil Kaanthame - SPB and Tara
This is the right list, and you have said that songs sound like SM singing when I t actually is.
Nobody called Ammer is on this album. Only YSR sang the backing vocals.

Rajeev's list of singers for MP is correct !
btw, 'Ameer' is the Director of the movie
(He was the Associate Director of Dir.Bala in 'Sethu' and 'Nandhaa')

MP - Intro to a song in Vikatan
http://www.vikatan.com/av/2002/nov/10112002/av0504.shtml
It talks about the 'chinna chinnadhaan peNNE' - song sung by Hariharan, penned by a new poet 'Pudhuvai Nambi'.
In that song, Hariharan couldn't sing the high pitched lines 'kaadhal seydhaal paavam...' (couldn't reach the high notes). So, YSR retained his own track voice for those lines.

Just listened to AM, and must say it is a tremendously melodious album. YSR has done a great job.
However it is a shame that none of his movies are going to be released for Deepavali.

Rashika ,i also feel AM is a good album .Though most of u may not agree with me AM is better than Mounam Pesiadhae .the thing which i hate in MP are the sounds which are used ,they are totally synthetic and not pleasant to ears .....Even for melodies such sounds are used esp for that SPB song ..Even ARR does not use such sounds ( eg kadal Virus did have three pop liek songs but the reaming three were good melodies )
But still YSR albums are too western except for Nandha ..He should avoid that ..Otherwise he is a very good MD ...

Bala's best number, 'Theendi theendi' seems to be a direct lift from Ilayaraja's 1989 Hindi number from mahavir, 'Rimjhim rimjhim'. Have added both the audio clips in my site...

Does YSR have the right to pass off his dad's composition as his own with absolutely no credit to his great father?

Karthik S, I doubt very much that YSR lifted the song thinking to fool the audience. Of course he knew what he was doing. It is most likely that he wanted to do a revamp of a song by his fate that is all.

The fact that IR has not been given any credit whatsoever is what is terribly disturbing, despite the fact that YSR is his own son.
All this talk of trying to do a revamp sounds merely like an afterthought just to salvage YSR's new found pride.

Karthik S,
'The fact that IR has not been given any credit whatsoever is what is terribly disturbing..' Why say so? In IR's songs, instrumentalists play what has been tuned in by IR(notes by notes) unlike others where instrumentalists is given time to come up with their own (may not be all times). Every damn thing is IR's fault.

I thought that song was IRish (like the other song)..but didnt know it was actually IRs !! Well..this is the first time we have seen YSR do something like this..And Karthik "so early in his career he should not do something like this"..I think we should be equally aghast when other MDs are getting off easily using commercially available rhythm loops or even from other western songs. These albums are marketed as great musicals !!! I dont like Yuvan's music at all but I do know he is a very talented young fellow !! So I hope he does not repeat this in the future !!

kiru:
I actualy enjoy YSR's recent music, he's sure improving and is no doubt talented. But there's a difference between use of commercially available loops and using an age old song, as is.
No I'm not just supporting ARR, but every other musician who uses loops. Thats a technological advantage people use and should not be confused with lack of creativity.
In this particular case, I just wish YSR had the mind to ask the cassette/CD company to include a small credit to IR. It'd have completely avoided all this backlash!

sarat ,
Yeah .songs in Grahan were those which wre re used .But the orginal compositions were by KR and not by IR .
1.AAj main Kush -Netru vantha ( Kanmani)
2.Chup Chup - perinbaem ...( Ennokoru Magan piripaen)
Both these songs wre composed by KR and not by ILLAS ,though Kanmani as a movie was composed by ILLAS

Personally i feel he might not be successfull in HIMDI ....HINDI music is diffferent .....Even ARR had a lot of failures

Karthick,
What ever said and done regarding using loops, I feel it is like instant coffee. The advantage it gives is coffee at instant and we definitely compromise on quality taste for this.
So is the case with these loops. They were created to make composer's task simple, but can not capture the nativity for a given song situation.
Just because ARR uses, doesn't mean we need to support that.
- From: Karthik S (@ 164.164.82.29)
on: Tue Nov 12 03:45:20 EST 2002
Instant Coffee was discovered to save time and hassle. Loops and samples are used for the same purpose.
People still drink filter coffee and a whole lot of people have taken to instant coffee. So we now have 2 sets of people, against one. Why? 'Cos it was proved to many people who thought making filter coffee was quite a process, that it wasnt. It coud also be done instantly, with the same taste.
Now, if you feel the instant coffee you get every month doesnt taste like the good old filter coffee, you should stick to your good old filter coffee itself and not blame the company making the instant coffee. Its not going to affect them in anyway since a sizeable population prefers it!
Same logic. Stick to your loopless/samples'less composers and stop blaming people like ARR or HJ 'cos they use loops.
And making the composer's task simple is just one part of it. The composer would decide if the song in question would be enhanced by the use of loops. I'm sure he wouldnt use loops at the cost of killing a song.
And last, these loops are a very small part of the song. Nothing can substitute the actual tune of the song and thats where ARR scores. The basic tune. Lifting that amounts to copying, in my opinion. The loops are merely a backdrop on which the tune is adorned.

Mumbai>Personally i feel he might not be successfull in HIMDI ....HINDI music is diffferent .....Even ARR had a lot of failures>>
Is ARR the benchmark? Very few artist have direct entry to other filmdom. If the movies are dubbed in hindi and has reasonable success then artists associated will have fair chance to establish.

ysr is concentrating mostly on Tamil projects. he did few telugu movies along the way( ie Sethu, Malli malli choodali. He should establish even more in TFm before moving to Hindi. it is better to be a big hit in TFM rather than be mediocre in TFM and HFM
