IR gets Lathamankeshkar award given by MP state govt.

  There are only few discussion here in this site, do justice to the thread title anyway. :-)
  As I told before, giving LM award to IR is not a problem, dhada sahib palke award is given to all kind of people related to movie field, not just the actors. Anyhow, enough of digression here, agreed.

  As for IR, I feel we have an equally good MD - ARR - who has achieved so much in such a short while. He is probably the best comparison with IR.
  That shows a clear bias! If time allows, please go through various discussions on IR/ARR(including the recent one in Kumudam DF) as to why there's simply no comparison between the maestro and the whiz kid...Your statement clearly shows how much of ARR you have heard and how little of IR you have heard:-((
  
  & still you talk so much about IR & question the statements of southies about LM??? If you have heard so less of IR (to make him equal to a composer who probably scored below 1/10th of his output, qualitatively and quantitatively), why don't others make statements about LM without hearing much of her???

  You have heard a lot more of LM than most of us (not TFM but other FM) and have grown a taste and have very strong opinions about her..it's OK with us, people have different tastes and choices...
  
  but please don't pass judgements on someone whom you probably have heard very little (or not at all, IMHO, except those copied ones in Hindi)
  
  If possible, before writing your next posting, please listen to a song called `poongathavE, thAzh thiravAi' (film, nizhalgaL) and then make comments on IR (oru pAnai sORukku oru sORu):-)

  portraying Lata as manipulative is wrong. I think I've cited enough concrete evidences for the same. If you dont want to accept them,I think you are being adamant. In any case, Vani Jairam had accused even Asha, in fact more than Lata, though I think her cribbing is null and void.

  You people have wrongly assumed that I have not heard enough of IR'S music. In fact, I love his songs very much too. Do you want me to give you a long list of IR songs that I like???? I love the IR-SJ pair the most. But there are many many people who like ARR equally or more, especially those from the younger generation. You dont know how crazy my hostel friends (in B'bay)are on ARR's Tamil songs!!! Let me tell you, Hindi film music sucks nowadays. Its only ARR whose managed to salvage it to a great extent. I feel bad when the other md's of HFM (and many of them are pretty mediocre) copy ARR's songs. In fact there is an MD whose copied the same song twice!!!!!!!!!!
  ARR's lovely 'Mugabla' song was so badly copied.
  
  2) Eden, you referred to songs being copied in the north, picked up from the south. THAT'S TRUE TODAY!!! But not necessarily in the 50's,60's and 70's. In fact there are many movies whose Telugu and Hindi versions were released simult. and either way, the music was similar. I have heard the copied telugu/tamil versions of several Hindi songs, AND vice versa also!!!! A good example is Lata's 'Naina barse','Megha Chhaye','Meri zindagi hai kay...'( I dont remember exact lyrics of the Telugu songs- but i'll tell you later).
  
  3)Friends, I am avid listener of PS also. In fact, I feel music should not be limited to any ONE language. I have even heard Rajasthani(marwari),Kashmiri and Bengali songs, when I dont understand a word of any of these.

  I am sorry, if i have not read all of your previous postings. You are making a strong case for LM being generous. Still you can not sell rock and roll in brookyln.
  Anyhow, I found that your only problem with VJ is her accent and diction in hindi, if that is the case, what is wrong people in TFM making case against LM based on her tamil accent.
  What happened to VJ in tamil, is because she fell out of favour with IR in late 70's, though she remained the favorite female singer for MSV, SG and others, but she lost the battle, as they did against IR.

  Is this your argument, why ARR can be equated to IR. Lot of young generation now, may like alka yagnik more or less than LM, does it make her better singer than LM.
  I am glad that you find LM voice divine, and it helps to you esacpe from the boredom and . I have found mine. No one is completely unbiased here, even the God.
  I dont know, what happened to suman kalyanpuri, why she is not popular in maharastra, is beyond me, Still I have seen that there are more than adequate replacements for all the great singers, be it Rafi, SPB, or PS, SJ. They are great, just like LM. I read it somewhere long time back, ( where I dont know, so you can ignore it, if you wish), that Only VJ among female singers can reach all the 7 scales effortlessly. I am not a big fan of VJ in anyway, just thought, I can quote this.

  No I am just a surfer who is very much interested to know about tfm. By and large this forum is good. Some time the ARR/IR fight get too much but still its interesting. I like asha very much as I have heard her more. I have respect to LM. I can understand tha controversies what e.hari has to say about LM. But, I don't beleive them fully as I don't know facts. Your explanations had enough matters to substantiate your opinion.
  My father has great respect for LM and has mentioned how Nehru had tears in his eyes when she sang
  "Ye mere vathan ki logon"
  "Zara Akh me bhar lo pani"
  "jo shahid huye hai unki"
  "zara yaad karo kurbani"

  I never said Lata/asha are good for Tamil. Their Tamil pron. are not good. But VJ besides having a very bad accent was too shrill and nasal.
  I dont know who said only VJ can reach all scales effortlessly. I think the range of Lata/Asha is much better. Lata also excells in sweetness,diction,expression and versatility, besides swift chord change. In fact, if someone compared Asha or PS to LM,maybe, but not VJ -i'm saying it again.In any case VJ is not considered on par with PS or SJ.
  Just in case you havent heard, foll. is a list of Lata songs that show her range of voice (and effortlessly):

  No you misunderstood me again. There are many who like ARR more or equally. As far as people liking Alka more, I've never come across that so far.
  In fact TVS saregama and similar progs. have all young particpants, but maximum old songs are sung.
  Again, I find ARR's orchestration,his style of experimenting etc a lot. I loved his Roja,Rangeela,......................... so many more!! I find ARR's style as good. I dont hink the same about Alka.
  Anyway these are personal choices, I think we've had enough of a tussle of words.Lets stp it probably, before we get too repetitive. Yet I would request you to go through all my posts.
  If you want the proof of so and so statement,i'll give you the link, or the name of the book.

  In one of your earlier postings you said even ARR's HFM is crap... but in a recent posting you are saying it is wonderful.
  Also, in a typical NSCM style, you are trying to divert the topic by instigating the usual IR/ARR fight by making a sweeping statement that ARR=IR.
