The aim of this thread is to collect, at one place, interesting
stories, anecdotes, tit-bits etc, related to TFM. A newcomer to
the forum will find this collection very interesting to read. For
example, Ramki mentioned the following story in another thread:
Do you remember the 'vizhiyil vizhundhu' (alaigal oyvadhillai) song?
Andha situation BRkku suddenaaga thondra, VMkku outdoor shootingil irundhu
phone seidhu kettuLLaar. VM phoneliye lyrics solla adhai tape seidhu

but no one was available. BSS mathram dhan mattirkkanga so avangalukku
adichadhu adhirshtam. The whole song was done in just 2 hrs time.
Annikke song shoot panni mudichittaangalaam.
Folks, please share any such stories, anecdotes and tit-bits that
you know, in this thread. If TFM Group thinks it is sufficiently
interesting, they could even place it in Permanent Topics.

In the latest issue of Vikatan(Or is it Kumudam?) I read that Karthik (the actor) has sung over 30 songs. I don't believe this..... Is it true?
Also, how many songs have Kamal sung? (I thought he's the most prolific)

But the more shocking news in that Kumudham was
that Karthik is going to be the MD for some movie!!
This says something about the state of TFM now.

UnniKrishnan in a telephone interview in Radio Malaysia said that he has sung just over 100 songs now!
He was born in 1966 and that makes him just 32 - one of the youngest singers around.
He started carnatic practice at the late age oof 12 and that too at the insistence of his mother and initially discliked it.
He was introduced to TFM by ARR (was it Ennavaley in Kaadhalan?) and had now sung with all current MDs including IR and Deva.

Hi,
My friend told me that VM's birthday is celebrated as "Kavingar Dhinam". I definitely don't believe it. But seeing VM's influence among the big-wigs of Tamil Film Industry like KB, BR and Rajnikanth, I feel there could have been a proposal to make it as Kavingar Dhinam. Any idea?

There was an interview with kOvai thambi on 31'st of Dec last year.
In that he said after payaNangaL mudivadhillai's success , he decided to make a movie with R Sunderrajan's assistant (some ravi).
"I went to Raja ", says he " and asked him to compose some songs and Raja gave me 9 wonderful songs. I approached the director and told about the songs and asked him to pen a story for those songs (!!!!!!). He came up with one story which I didn't like. I changed the director (!!!!) and the new director (maNivaNNan ,i guess) came up with one story and the movie was made. The movie was ILamai kOlangaL".
In an interview in Kungumam, when mahendran was asked about his fav dialogue, he has said that the BGM is the life of his movies and dialogue have less significance. In that way he says ,he liked the scene where shoba along with saratbabu moves away from rajni.
reg dialogue, he talks about uthirippookkaL ,the famous "appa kuLikka pOrEn , neenga nalla padikkaNum".It seems mahendran himself was moved to tears while shooting that scene!!

The song "oru iniya manadhu isayai..."(johnny) was screened yesterday. I noticed this man ,standing behind sreedevi , conducting the orchestra. That person is none other than Uttam Singh (of DTPH fame). He also conducted I24H.

More on kAdhal kavidai.....
* There was a program on kadhal kavidai in SUN TV yesterday, there movie reviewers including D S ramanujam (the menace), were asked about their opinion on the movie. Esp when asked about music everyone were raving about Raja'ssongs and BGM and one of them told that Raja's BGM is improving with everymovie and that he is one of the best BGM composers in the world.Of course, our man D S R never uttered any word about MD or music.
*Agathiyan said that the climax had few dialogues and the tempo of the movie totally depended on the BGM and that Raja did a brilliant work on those scenes.
He also said that on 23'rd Dec,Raja started the re-recording (the movie was released on 25'th),he was there in the rec.theater for 26 continuous hrs and finished the BGM score. He added that it was done without any compromise on the quality of the BGM.
I still wonder ,how cud he come up with those brilliant WC pieces within 26 hrs!!!!!

On the lines of "Paadal pirantha Kathai"....
I read some of the anecdotes in KD's autobiography , "vanavaasam" and
"manavaasam".
During the composing session for "Paavamannippu" , KD received a phone call carrying good news, he had been nominated for an award in Sri Lanka. The next call was a dampener, he was going to lose posession of his house in Madras. Then...out came the song, "Silar Sirippaar Silar Azhuvaar Naan azhuthukonde sirikkindren".
On another occassion in Bangalore, the film was "Nenjil Or Aalayam" , MSV , fretting and fuming was waiting for KD who had probably retired to the confines of a bar. In sheer frustration, MSV launched into a tirade which was duly reported to KD by a self-appointed "Chamcha". KD,visibly upset, plonked himself in front of MSV and the result was "Sonnathu Nee thaana". This incident was narrated by MSV himself in a Patti mandram.
KD was returning to his native village after a long time and it was as if the thick foliage and the small stream of water were inviting him back. Instinctively, he rid himself of the extra burden otherwise called clothes and dived into the stream. The song that was taking shape in his mind was "Ulagam piranthathu enakkaaga Odum nathigaLum enakkaaga".
This time the movie is , I think "Periya Idathu PeNN". It was again the case of MSV waiting for KD and he is supposed to have drifted into a deep slumber. KD arrived , took note of it and composed the Pallavi "Avanukkenna Thoongivittaan Agappaattavan Naan allavaa".
I personally would like more contributions on the same lines. Will be back with some more...

A TV station in Toronto, Canada, showed a preview of a documentary film titled "THE INDIAN WOMAN - We Salute Her Undaunted Spirit". Ilayaraja has done the music for this film.
Singer Anuradha Sriram is doing two live shows in Toronto. During an interview on another TV show, she stated that:
-She is a graduate of Madras University, and did her Masters degree in music in the USA. Her Masters thesis was on the influence of Ilaiyaraja on Tamil Film Music.
_ She was introduced to TFM by ARR.
_ Her mother was a playback singer (sang in KANDHAN KARUNAI).
- She is married to an established musician by the name of Sriram Parasuraman. (Any relation to Sriram Lakshman?)
