“ chinnathayaval thantha raasaave” – dalapathi ( SJ in tamil)
“valayosi kalakalakala ena kavithaigal - sathya (lata mangehkar in tamil)
“naanoru sindhu, kavadi sindhu” - sindhu bhairavi ( chitra in tamil)
“ore naal unai naan nilavil paarthathu”– ilami oonjaladugirathu ( VJ in tamil)
“kanna varuvaya mere ketkiral” -- manthil uruthi vendum (chitra in tamil)
“manjolai kili thano, maan thano” –kizhake poghum rayil
“ithayam poghuthe, enaye pirinthe” – puthiya vaarpugal (jency in tamil)

Do you know if the sathya song (telugu version) is available on the net somewhere? I am interested in
a) how PS fared in this song?
b) how the lyrics came along, given that it is a dubbing song.
From the few lines that you mentioned, it seems like the song has some nice imaginative lyrics (I don't know if you understand telugu).

Kalai, am also curious to listen to the "Valayosai" (telugu version)...
Tamil version, though the tune was different with fast beat, the words were not with "beauty".. at last it was like "dubba la kalla pottu kulukkina pola".
Await to listen how beautiful the telugu version is.

Thank you "Kaumudi" for your sincere efforts.
"Eetharam ellalu" is a remake or dubiing of "pudhumai penn" in which all songs are sung by PS.
"Kasturi maane kalyane thene" is one of those songs(sirimalle poola singara vella ). Can you try for the other songs?

I don't know if this rare song has been discussed before:
The song goes like this, "Sandanam Ittu Sathiraadum Mottu Mozhithenin Sottu" from the film, "Rusi KaNda Poonai"
The song has an unusual rhythm, which compliments the well-written lyrics so well. The interludes with their vintage Raaja violin arrangements, subtle and effective use of veena and flute are just AMAZING!
It's an excellent old composition of IR, and P. Susheela does a great job rendering this lullaby. She infuses so much emotions and added the right 'azhuthams' and 'bhaavam's into this sweet number that you hit the rewind button again and again!
Wonder why this excellent song never received the attention it so well deserves!
Can somebody help identify the lyricist please?
Thanks.

Peter.. no doubt it was due to poor show of the film "Rusi...".. an utter flop. But many failed films were with popular songs..
One more.. in the same film SJ' child voice song "kaNNa nee enge" was made very popular and this "sandhanamittu" did submerged..

Can any1 guess this?
Muthuraman, prameela and sumitra acted.. (n that film Prameela cheats ger busband MR. Sumitra becomes a christian nun.
there was two hit numbers
1. By PS "Annai Marry unnai andri aarudhalai yaar tharuvaar"
2. By TMS and dialogues by Prameela
My questions:
1. What is the film name
2. what is that song by TMS & Prameela

Peter Pan, no doubt "Sandanam ittu" is a superb song. As Subbu has pointed out, the song didn't create waves because of SJ's immensely appealing "Kanna nee engey", for which, incidentally, SJ was the lyricist as well! In fact, I remember seeing the record of the film, on the cover which there is a photograph of SJ!
(I don't know if any other singer has been similarly honoured). Is there any wonder that in the midst of this SJ hosanna, PS' lovely "Sandhanamittu" went unnoticed--?
Subbu, the film you are referring to is "Paavathin Sambalam" (1978). It also had Rajinikanth in a guest appearance. I am sorry that I don't remember the song by TMS and Pramila.
PS' 'Annai Mary unnai andri aarudhalai yaar tharuvaar, kannirandil neer perugum kaaranathai nee arivaai--' lingers on in memory, though.
(MD-SG?).
BTW, the very mention of TMS and dialogues by Pramila immediately brings to mind the 'Sodhanai mel sodhanai' number from Thangapadhakkam!!

Kalai,
Did you include the following two songs of PS+Ir combo??
1. Poonthendral katre vaa vaa
Adhil serndhaadum paate vaa vaa
Sung by PS + PJ from "Manjal Nila" (I guess)
Actors: Suresh & Kala Ranjani (sister of Oorvasi & Kalpana)
2. Azhage azhage...kalam muzhdhum nee
Sung by PS + MVD from Vaalibhame vaa vaa
Actors: Karthik + Radha directed by Bharati raja
Just check.

Movie called "Thangamadi thangam" acted by Ambika (In dual role) and SV Sekar. In that film, there were two solo numbers by PS and one duet by PS + MVD. I don't rememeber whether the music was by IR or Gangai amaran.
Kalai, Saravanan, or anyone else.. please try.

Subbu, the PS songs from Thangamadi thangam, Manjal nila and Valibame vaa vaa are already included in Kalai's exhaustive list. Just go to the 1st page of this thread-you'll find the list. (One small error which Kalai has made is he has referred to the film as Thangame thangam)

yes.. that movie name is "thangamadi thangam". Thank you for the correction.
I think more than three MD's (may be five) done music to "Kannil theriyum kadhaigal". I dont know which is by IR? I thought "naan oru" is G.K.Venkatesh. "Naan onna nenachen" is also another good song from that movie(SPB,VJ,Jikki?).

Hey, there's a brilliant Bharatiyaar song by P. Susheela-IR combo in the film, 'Thai Pongal':
"Chuttum Vizhi Chudar thAn KaNNammA".
Amazing melody and interludes.. superb rendering by Susheela. This remains one of the best versions of this much-popular BharatiyAr song.
Does anybody have this number? It has an interesting mix of Behag, Shankarabharanam and Kalyani.. Difficult to frame it under a single raga.

Kalai,
1. MD for "Naanoru ponnoviyam" : IR
2. MD for "Naan onna ninachen" : SG
3. MD for song sung by TMS : KVM
4. MD for "Onnu rendu mooNu" : GKV (Sailaja & BSS)
5. One more song by PB Srinivas (I guess) was by TR Pappa.
Saravanan, can you confirm the above.

Subbu, Kannil Theriyum Kathaigal (1980) was produced by singer AL Raghavan (who is now appearing in the Sun TV serial "Alaigal"), and his wife actress MN Rajam. The film starred Sarathbabu, Sripriya, Vadivukkarasi and MN Rajam.
AL Raghavan got 5 MDs to compose one song each, as you have rightly pointed out. ALR didn't approach MSV at all, though he has sung so many songs for MSV.
As you have pointed out, Naan unnai ninaichen(SPB,Jikki,VJ)was by SG. IR's Naan oru ponnoviam was by SPB,PS and SJ.I don't seem to remember the songs by KVM and TRP. However GKV's song, sung by AL Raghavan himself- Naan paartha Rathidevi engey, naan ketta pudhu paadal engey--remains evergreen in my memory- a haunting number, soulfully rendered by ALR, evoking nostalgic memories of of his Engirundhaalum Vaazhga.
Sadly KTK came a cropper and ALR burnt his fingers very badly. The irony is that he had already a similar bad experience in 1968, when TMS and ALR jointly produced the ill-fated Kallum Kaniyagum. Not only did they produce it, they also donned the roles of the 2 heros of the film!
Quite understandably, the film sank without a trace, MSV's lovely songs notwithstanding.

Guys,
This is news to me...
According to P. B. Srinivas, it was P.Susheela who recommended S. Janaki's name for her all-time great number 'ChingAra vElanE DEvA' (Konjum Salangai) as she felt only SJ could do justice to the NAgaswaram pitch. EvvaLavu pErukku irukku such great quality? Amazing!

PP, read PBS' interview again- it was P Leela who suggested that SJ alone could match the pitch of the nadaswaram. According to Mr Vamanan (Thirai isai alaigal)too, it was P Leela who recommended SJ's name.

"NalanthAna, NalanthAna, udalum ullamum nalanthAna" - PS sings this song with nadaswaram pitch. Vamanan also written high about that song.. Thanks to KVM..
PL's recommentation on SJ may be because of good heart . I had a doubt that “ may be to find an alternate to PS, PL could have promoted SJ, because she lost the market after PS's suceess in film music.. It got cleared recently because of the following incident..
Recently Jayachandran got an award by kerala govt., who is the greatest admirer of PS and consider her as "musical Goddess".
“The singer(PS) sparked off a small controversy in her own on offending way after the announcement of the first K. J. Jesudas award. She told this newspaper in an interview soon after that the award should have gone to the veteran P. Leela rather than to Jayachandran. She hurried to say that she did not want to hurt Jayachandran. ``He is a talented singer and like a younger brother to me. We have always had great love and regard for each other. Maybe, the second or third Jesudas award should've gone to him.''

If they are rivals she should not have told like this..Isn’t it.?
About PS & SJ the maximum number of female duets of SJ is with PS. In tamil itself it could have been more than 30.. (PS’s female duets may be more with LRE). I think they are good friends . I remember, in 80’s Gemini Cinema came with a “SJ special”.. In SJ’s album.. a photo with PS commented as “ anbu sahodari P.susheela-udan” ..
Once “vanna Thirai” cover page I have seen PS-SJ photo… moreover I have seen them together (thru. photos or TV) in different occations including Susheela-50 programme..
Old singers says in interviews that “ we were like a family” .I tend to believe that, just because the respect they keep on each others..
