This 'so-called' film critic from REDIFF.COM says 'ABHAY' (Hindi Version of ALAVANDHAAN' is a crap movie. The link is given below...
http://www.rediff.com/entertai/2001/nov/13abhay.htm
How crucial was 'music' a crucial factor for a film like ALAVANDHAAN?

Getting pregnant b4 marriage is not rare but it remains relatively rare. I see no reason why it should be highlighted by kamal so that people wud considered him different or brave to introduce such things in tamil movies. There are many other ways to stand out including in ways that are moral. Tamil movies with its songs, humour, subtle messages and overall entertainment value
is already on its own different. I fail to see any relevance of kissing in Kamal's movies. In Hey Ram the way he was kissing made it look like this is the first time he is kissing.Perhaps kissing such a young and attractive made him weak!I think Kamal should just cut the crap like insisting that he must sing in his movies or there must be kissing scenes and instead show his true talents as he did in Indian,Avaishanmugi etc. Pls Kamal, all my friends think that u are overacting most of the time especially when u cry! Just be natural and u will get yr glow back.

I agree with Bharath in that Kamal can ,in the name of artistic freedom, introduce sexual scenes in his movies to validate the fact that his movies are strongly grounded on reality.
Why do so many of you have a problem with kamal doing intimate scenes? I think the reason is that you feel that the intimacy is REAL (remember the Rekha-incident in punnagai mannan). Another reason is that Kamal is more closer to home than say a Roberto Benini or a Michael Douglas for that matter. Granted "Life is beautiful" is a nice movie but there a balding (older looking man) says to the heroine, who is getting married that very night, that he wants make love to her all night and then kisses. What I am trying to say is that we have different standards for kamal and say any other actor.
When you agree that Kamal is versatile and consummate talent in the film industry, it is OK for him to go overboard a bit for something that he belives in...namely that sexual scenes should find a place in story telling.

One of my friends who had seen the movie says with surity that getting pregnant before marriage is not a major issue in some army family. I don't know how far this is true. He mentioned one or two examples, I don't remember it know exactly. I might blabber and get into trouble...So..no more comments.
I haven't seen Alavandhan yet.

;-) dudes...don't u think he is subtley making u all involved (generally the viewer is a third party) into the plot, by taking u into the bedroom too?...that way u become part of the narrative :-)

and talking of hot scenes, u pepole need to shed double standards yaar...if pierce brosnan as james bond gets off too intimate, u ppl seem to luv it, and ask for more..why all this culture crap when an Indian does it?....shut your eyes if you must guys..my word, aren't you we all deviating from the topic of discussion?

Please don't ask why, but it helps. ;)

WhyNot,
have u seen the tamil dubbed version of tomorrow never dies? I guess you havent !
I read something interesting tday.. a book called "sneehapoorva nathuram"( dear nathuram) is getting released by a civil servant.
Now the publication of the book is being widely frowned upon. The press are arguing with the govt and urging the govt. the curtail the freedom of press and expression the author seems to be guilty of trying to excercise.
I am beginning to think if "freedom of expression" is a perspective term. Although we want to claim to be a free and democratic country for all the good it brings in making one more richer than the other , we DO NOT want to accept the little inconveniences it brings into our life.

Bharath:
nope, i don't like watching dubbed versions of hollywood films. I wouldn't have any comments if that's the version u talking about.
When u talk about freedom of expression, it gets scary.
U see, what i've been saying in this forum is that I don't like kamal's portrayal of his sex life (but i never mentioned kissing scenes).
But what I'm NOT SAYING is that kamal should be prohibited from showing these things. I never did mention that censors whould exercise their scissior or anything like that.
When u don't like something doesn't mean u want it to be outlawed. I'm not speaking on behalf of the others who condemned kamal's use of sex in his movies, but IMHO, criticism doesn't mean to kill or remove or ban something.
Like I may disagree with someone in this forum. But i'll never say that the person whould be banned from making his/her opinions.

////"pierce bosnan doesn't talk Tamil.

...that was a typical escapist statement. We forgive ourselves when we get to see an englishman getting very intimate..why go bersek when an Indian does that...are we 'colour conscious' ourselves....
May i quote Linda Goodman..
"in our obsession with the original sin, we often forget our original innocense"....When there were umpteen points that ALAVANDHAAN did right, all you ppl seem to gather muster to talk & harp about is the "hot scenes"....HEAVENS SAKE people...

I saw aalavanthan yesterda : what a movie !!!
Kamal has put a great effort on the character of Nandhu ! This movie is different from all the "suriya vamsam like" movies such as padayappa and the latest thavasi !
Well done Kamal !!!!
nop, i am not a fan of kamal, i just like good works :)

neutral fan,
ok i can offer a better explanation:
When pierce brosnan or other 'white-skin' does it, it looks real and normal. Even when bakiaraj comes up with 1000 times worse things, it still looks normal and he fits in with the whole scenario somehow. When kamal does the things he do, it looks pretentious. So it sucks. Is that better? Bcos kamal's stuff just don't look real.

neutral fan, do u believe in astrology? ie. star signs, etc?

dearest & loveable WHYNOT...
"..//Bcos kamal's stuff just don't look real...//" As a kamal fan, i wouldlike to explain to u two diverse approaches to acting adopted by kamal. He can do a intimate love scene as if it were goddamn real, or purely mechanically...(example for first is PUNNAGAI MANNAN first scene, remember tha passionate moments before the suicide attempt. The example for second is UNNAL MUDIYUM THAMBI or NAMMAVAR)...and dearest and loevable WHYNOT, you seem to have seen more of the latter ones than the former ones...he exactly knows what impact he wants to create...IMHO

Off topic....pardon us guys...
.............
WHYNOT...and as far as my sun sign goes...with all your wit and sharp agile mind, ;-) why don't u hazard a guess...it would be interesting..(of course yes, i am interested in all esoteric stuff including astrology...And in fact, i can even see KAMAL's approach to acting more accurately when i see in the context of his sun sign, viz., SCORPIO)...any takers?

Hmmmmm let me take a guess....
Aries, Scorpio, Pisces, Cancer, Leo, Libra?
Just thought u sound like a fire or a Water. (hot tempered, etc). While at the same time u seem to like arguing like a true libran..but then again librans r more diplomatic..Aries bcos of the quote u came up with, and also ur believe in astrology and ur war-like character...water signs bcos u believe in these things again.
Well i cud be totally wrong and u can be some earth sign (maybe taurus).
No clue. Don't know much about u.
May I have an answer?
BTW, do u know wat sign I am? :-)

dearest and loveable WHYNOT...did you notice that DIPLOMACY can be rearranged as MAD POLICY....anyways...(just trying my hand at LEXIGRAMS, courtesy Linda Goodman)...
let me eliminate what you cannot be....u cannot be capricorn (they rarely talk, but talking seems to be your full time occupation), cannot be leo (leos are meant to be angels...so, well, fully rules u out),
My two cents would be, u r either an aries female (with a monster ego) or gemini (male or female - talkative, rash, split personality )...you will take me by surprise if u tell u r a libra...(librans smile often, i can only see you snarl at poor souls like me)...
well....did you, in your wildest dreams imagine i was an earth SIGN...now take your chance (but don't forget to tell your sign, dearest & loveable WHYNOT)...

Sorry neutral fan, I didn't mean to offend u, but hey u came up with 2 of the worst signs possible to describe me. :-)
Well if u r an Earth sign, ur probably a Taurus female or a Virgo female. More likely Virgo.
I have a good opinion of earth females.
I am the sign of no egos. I'm a harmless Aquarius female. Actually i was born in the cusp of Aquarius/Pisces. But everyone I know can swear I'm an aquarian throughout. And I am, as I got my charts done for me.
Well u didn't guess that either, right.
Hope I haven't scarred the sensitive Virgo heart. :-)
