Truly, it is my inquisitiveness to understand the influence of TFM page on anything. I am aware of the fact that some musicians visit this page then and there. How seriously they take the views of people? Any idea. Though regular usual fights are in flame, to what extent they influence on anything? Is it just a time pass site. How many of us have comprehend the true worth of this (if any). Let me know the suggestions from all sectorians

I've never found Arasu's "Badhils" to be profound or pertinent. Mostly, they are just sound bites bordering on the provocative. Easy, quick, and ultimately just as forgettable 'til the next one comes along. The reason for that particular section's popularity is (was) the sarcasm and the political jibes that he practices (all under the guise of "neutrality" which was just another myth) - pithy in tone, but pitifully lacking in any real insight. Arasu's popularity has always spooked me. Why so much importance for someone who edits / puts out something that is just a tabloid? Do people really seek out Kumudham for thought-provoking, investigative and rigorous journalism? I seriously doubt it. It is a grab-bag of gossip, political wisecracks, cinema-cinema, and serialised "thodars" that are usually trite, if not tiresome.
Arasu's summation of IR-ARR shifts in listenership is vintage stuff: A couplet with a huge factual hollow at its heart.
BTW: Himmatwala was Jeetendra-Sridevi. The Sridevi-Mithun bomb was Jaag Utha Insaan (great songs by RR) While I'm at it - when the latter was released I remember a national english daily quite flippantly naming the other actor in the film (who was making his Hindi debut with JUI) as "Somayazulu" - Oh well.)

You mean, OISG, "Aap jesa koee meri zindagi me~n Aae to baat ban jaae" by Naazia Hasan??
Surprising that it overshadowed even Taamilian song. Isn't it?

Earlier (SAP period)"Arasu" badhilgal had a charm.Inncouous, funny, simple ..and hence had agood following.Even Kumudam as a whole used to give a teenage feel(should i say adolescent?).JA.RA.Sundaresan(Appusami fame ) took care of the funny part,Punithan took care of the knowledge part and SAP himself handled descriptive,Aanmeegam etc.All of them were well read and the fun was deliberate.
But now with Lena.Tamilvanan handling (you can see Kalkandu effect in todays Arasu badhil)and Priya Kalyanaraman handling it has lost its relevance."Kurumbu" is gone replaced by "Bias".Now the editorial board contains a bunch of half-wits ,half-baked men with poor grasp.Sensation ala Ju.vi. is the mantra.

Naaz and OISG,
From childhood days I am a diehard Kumudam addict! I even get a headache if I don't see the latest issue on time! No amount of logic or reasoning will work with me! Still, pl. see if the following argument makes sense:
'Tamil kooRum nallulagam' has been patronising Kumudam for more than 50 years (along with a more serious magazine like Vikatan). There must be something in it! Some people have been rather harsh saying "Sex sells", but then so many clones of Kumudam have fallen by the wayside! Kumudam did undergo lean patches but it has always bounced back!
Yes, there was a mistake in my posting. It should have been " many Sridevi-Jeetendra/Mithun starrers like Himmatwala".
Some more films between 1975-1989 which I remembered later:
Tezaab,Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Karz, Karma, Namak Halaal, Pyar Jhukta Nahin and a few more. If all Non tamil films are to be counted, then you may include 'MarO charitra' as well!

We all seem to have gone in a tangent from influence of TFM page to influence of Kumudam. However I'll add my two bits!
Naaz, Cinema virumbi & OISG,
You may hate it ,like it or adore it but you can't ignore it. Kumudam's USP is this. Also Kumudam has coined Kisukisu to tamil lexicon, has the most absurd one page stories , has a blatantly naive pro- Cong(I or is it S as in Sonia!)line and pictures sometimes borders on the obscene. But if you look closely you will find a surprisingly good story contributions from as diverse persons as La Sa Ra , Jayakanthan to the pethals of a new starlet. to tie it to this TFM much aswe find some good threads among the prevalent IR & ARR bashing, you will be surprised to find good things in Kumudam if you are patient. Kuppaiyil kidaikkum Manickam always shines brighter.( oru mixed puthu mozhi!)

Anything that brings Vengayam out from hiberation - Kumudham or Karumam - has got to be a good thing!
Good to see you post again!
(Hate, Like, Adore, Can't Ignore...Can though! I have not seen the dung lotus in more than 10 years - but for some special interview / news links posted here. So, indifference may not be so good for the manickam...but it can sure work for the manidhan :-))
Regarding TFM page influence: Tbe two fine undertakings that have directly emerged from these very discussion forums are Neel Ds VJ Webpage and The 10 Year of ARR Fans Constellation. Both great and imaginative efforts. Never mind TFM page influencing TFM - there are many creative individuals right here who have been influenced by newtfmpage! That is something to commend and celebrate!

Naaz, Saravanan, Rgpm Sundar and other TFM lovers,
While browsing thro' the archives, I found that in the initial years (around 1997 ), many people have struggled to bring this forum to some shape. I even saw that many (mostly US makkaL) have contributed (mostly in US$)voluntarily to make it stay alive! Now that it has stabilised so beautifully, I am thankful to all of them for opening a platform like this! If only some ways could be found to prevent misuse/abuse of this forum (direct abuse or thro' threads with hidden agendas!)

Thanks Naaz for your kind words. It is not as if I were in hibernation. I do peep in to the forum at least a couple of times a week. I do write in when I feel the need.
Naaz , in my college days I used to hate big B even now i feel BIg B's biggest talent should have got him Sunil Dutt's job-- that of announcer in AIR. But boy was i able to ignore him I saw almost everyone of his movies thanks to my social circle.the ones i missed were the ones which came in vacation. By the same token, in Tamil speaking households if they buy only one magazine it would be Kumudham , if it is two it would be kumudam & AV. Of course in my Delhi years I used to subscribe only to Saavi but then...
Regarding the abuse of TFM Forum , I think my earlier opinion still holds good!

Cinema Virumbi , Vengayam and other TFM-page visitors -
Yes, I do believe that there is more abuse than productive sharing in these forums. The only (and pragmatic) to counter these malcontents (the posts, not the persons behind them) is to consistently try to maintain a high standard of appreciation and critique wherever possible (by the people who have demonstrated that they can do so over time.) If this is adhered to, the occasional irritants and verbal arsonists, would be rendered irrelevant, just like static. Fine tune and it will go away! :-)

There are many MD's who visit this page and also contribut. A good example is Ehsaan from Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. TFM's ametuer compser's page has helped a lot of people get together and nourish thier talents. VAAZGA newtfmpage.

I am an old timer. I used to be pretty active in this forum from 1997 to perhaps 2001. TFM page had three attractions for me back then.
1. Interaction with people who may have different opinions on music and music personalities but who enjoyed the interaction - people like Sathya, Bones, Manisegaran, Kanchana....
2. Better undedrstanding of music. Like several people, I kinda like Carnatic music but I don't really understand it. These pages were a big help.
3. Resource - ask any question, you will get an answer very quickly.
Despite all the fun I had in these pages, I think the only effect of these pages is to bring people together and act as a resource. Not sure what more can be accomplished.

Good points, Bhoori.
In addition, newtfmpage probably contributed in some way to the following:
-increased awareness and interest in websites hosting music files (ra,mp3 etc)
-stimulant to a number of websites like rajaangahm and increase of traffic to them
-inflow of contributions to TiS (are there any other project like this supported partly through the DF?)
-rekindling the interest in some old timers to at least try a few new albums (thus contributing in a miniscule way to cassette / CD sales)
-accumulation of a lot of data (including statistics) on TFM and thus making them available throught out the net (though not all of them are very accurate)...for e.g. any one who loves IR's music can get a list of 1000 or more songs (compiling which would have been very difficult without newtfmpage for an average listener)...

TFM page has come a long way - a satelite site to Rajangham to a broad-based TFM site.Non-IR fans did have a torrid time from the highly partisan IR-interest group. It was like an erstwhile USSR setup where interests of the common man were last in the agenda.Kurushevs could say Stalins were bad and vice versa but the common man ended up in siberia for making the same statement.
The information transacted across the Dfers on TFM old times were pathetic with no real passion for TFM...I too was one among the culprits, carelessly tranasacted hearsays as information. The solace is that I believed them to be true!My transactions though wrong at times they were atleast orignal!!!
Some of the much acclaimed posters have ripped from Cinema Express Vamanan's works and got away with it. (I can prove it as well and I am sure it will be a rude awakening for many!).We can open a museum for skeleton boxes. It was really sad that there was never an acknowledgement of the fact that their post is atleast inspired from other-already-printed sources.
The music discussions, certainly, were better earlier.
Perestroika -Glasnost...
Over the last 2-3 years things have changed...and for the better.Lot of non-mainstream MDs and their songs have been discussed like GKV,VK for example.I think even the hardcore IR fans seem to have been enlightened. The other side is also true that an MSV fan like me got to understand IR's rare ones (eg Nenjil aadumpoo ondru).the idea that set the tone is SOTD.Thank to BB for this.
Knowing Saravanan thru this forum since June-2002 I have come to understand what passion towards TFM means and the value of TFM-information.Thanks to him.
