A little knowledgeable fan of music will easily identify the subsequent beats of any IR song after the first few words. His beats are the most boring and routine.
Frankly it is most amazing that his songs appeal to some people, given the monotony and non-imaginative nature of his songs.

Juz listen to the beats in songs like Palamuthir Solai, Solai Poovil, Malai Kovil, Aatama, Poonkathave to name a microscopic minority..
Anbe Sivam came up with an attention-grabbing statement but never bothered to elucidate with facts. Maybe the 'Ilaiyaraja' he's talking about is his kindergarten deskmate who regularly punched his face and thumped his back all day long!

All IR fans why are you trying to teach the greatness of IR to people like ARR fans who still like his music nowadays.
It is like trying to Install Office XP on a x286 machine. These guys' brain cells are not programmed to appreciate divine western classical treat like IR

Yeah Prabhu,
I listened to solai poovil.
Solai poovil maalai is a lovely song based on GowriManohari raaga and the beats are really good.

Rhythm does not have to come from BEATING a drum, it can come from strumming a guitar too. Listen, to mEgham kottatum from the movie enakkuL oruvan in www.dhool.com.
I can imagine how loud the percussion would be if our new MDs did the same/similar song.
In the latest movie, Julie Ganapathy, only a snare drum is used in the Idhayame, IdhayamE song, but the BGM version of it has really hard drums. IR by choice, does not let the percussion dominate the vocals. He has used the kick drum in so many songs, but they are recorded at a very low level. (I guess those days, the conservative atmosphere, would frown up on loud drums). There are some good drum work in the interludes at times.

Thanks chandru.
I liked the thaalam of kalakalakkum maniyosai song from Eramaana rojave film. As a singer , it is quite challenging to sing to this thaalam and the song also is a little tough to sing IMO.

Kiru, you took the words out of my mouth!! Though a stringed instrument, the physics of the guitar(the hollow opening, consider that with reverberation qualities of the material wood) supports a percussion-like feel to the instrument. Maybe that's why, this 2-in-1 effect makes the guitar a useful instrument for the 'quick and dirty' folks who are bent on percussion for their survival - its easy to bring out a catchy tune with it. Perhaps that's why MTV and [ V ] are still in business!
2 good guitar songs are TR's Vaigai Karai kaatre nillu and IR's Thulli yezhunthathu Kaatru. TR has done that superbly, the song scintillates in breath-taking fashion after a fairly ordinary start. Thulli yezhunthathu is quite simplistic, maybe IR took 2 min to fix that. Neways, for Murali's stereotypical reckless romeo roles, an uncomplicated guitar no would do, as seen on many an occasion.

The fast paced beats in the (SPB - IR combination)song 'thalukki thalukki' film Kizhaku vaasal is very impressive!!!

Prabhu..it may be easy ..but I still prefer the guitar to the drum machine sounds of today. vaigai karak kARRE is one of my favorite songs. T Rajender was the first, I think, to start selling cassettes way before the movie is launched and his music did really sell well. But I am told he was not responsible for composing all the parts in his music. Only the tune and beat. 'Arrangers' and talented behind-the-curtain artistes (the unforunate :)) completed the song for him.
Re: the guitar. I went to see a friend in a 'tango' party. I saw the double bass player, actually, beating the double bass, using it like a percussion instrument now and then !!!

Basically it is all swaras, which gives the music. All can compose music, only with seven swaras and hence there is no uniqueness to prevail.
friends, I am looking for a song ( may be acted by Prabhu) containing the words ..." thanaga tharamattal tamilnattu penmani..." This song resembles like the background used in Panchathanthiram I song. Can anybody help me in identifying this song.

Anbey Sivam is one of those new breeds!!! ARR's 'crotch sniffer'. I think it is quite prevalent in these forums. They think and talk like dog poo. They make no sense. They don't seem to have any musical sense. Maybe they are suffering from chronic ear infection. Their brain cells cannot register and appreciate good music. They only know how to praise ARR's songs even if it sounds like shit. And to their 'donkey-ears' every other tune is a copy of ARR's tune. Amazing!!!!

2 songs that absolutely hooked me with its purrrfect beats are Ennodu paatu padungal(Udaya Geetham) and Chinna Kuyil Paadum Paatu(Poove Poochoodava).
Simple excellent beats..if you listen carefully to these 2 songs, you will pick up some lessons of composition, like where to place the high notes in your tune, how to bring about a smooth finish to the charanam.
Genius like in simplying art forms.

99.99% songs of IR are very very good. No proof is needed to prove tht Sun is brighter than Moon. In the same way no proo fis needed that IR is a great Music Composer

IR's is the greatest and there is no question of being monotonous or boring.
I think real IR fans do NOT compare him with anyone - because there is NO ONE near IR.
To put simply, IR's music is for the soul. It leaves a great effect of the listener. The other so called Music Directors play only for the ears. They disturb the ears and makes you forget immediately.
There are innumerous works of IR to show that he is the greatest. Moreover, just songs do not make a music director. The film has background score as well. Watch Poo vizhi vaasaliley, nayakan, agni nakshatram, Mudal Mariyadai, Mouna Ragam, Guna once again - for the background. You will all know why IR is a genius!

Very funny! also explains one reason over years why IR did not take orchestration and rhythm seriously.
http://www.raajangahm.com/articles/memoir_english03.html
When Mr Kamal told me that he was contacting and gathering details about many symphony orchestras around the world, I was not very serious about it. Because, right from the time I began my career, I have noticed the directors suggesting Kashmir valley with the Himalayas in the background, for the songs in their films. They would extract good tunes from me thus suggesting a wondrous locale. By the end of the dress rehearsal of the dances, the location would shift from the Himalayas to Ooty. Finally, the film will be shot either in the Vijaya Gardens or the VGP.

Mythila: myth illai! thats a song with very good beats.
I dont have my IR collections currently with me currently so I cant recall many at a stretch, just randomly picking good beat songs from memory.
Palamuthir Solai is excellent, the way rhythm takes off with KJY's singing is superb(Who says Dasettan cant make such songs rock?) There was another catchy no by KJY in late 70s- Agayum mele, forgot the movie, was it by IR?
Thanni thotti thedi vantha in SB was also good. Sivakumar portrays his decline aptly in the song.
Aathu mettula(MV/SJ duet) was another very good and enjoyable one from late 70s..anyone recollect the type of beats?
BTW, it takes an extraordinarily baked-in-the-african-sun multi-layered buffalo skin(koluthura veyilla kaanju kedakara yerumaththol) to yawn in a thread meant for peppy numbers ;-)

Madhura marikkozhunthu vaasam: really magical song, the song that really launched Mano's career.
It was really funny to have Chithra sing this type of a song that involved such vocal gymnastics.
Lot of musical nous was involved in this one, can any expert analyse its composition?

Prabhu the Moron, have you started your stupid brayings again? Haven't you had enough? No wonder they say, once a moron always a moron.
Since you are a donkey, no wonder IR's beats appeal to you. You need to get more beatings before you will thirunthuraan. LOL!
