Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

In those days, there were quite a few songs came in two-records. This classic is one among them. Wonder what could be the reason? may be length of the song? Manisegaran Sir... Can you please throw some light on this aspect...?
Other such two-records songs include "azhgiya thamizh magal ivaL" (TMS+PS), "aadaludan paadalai kettu rasippadhiley dhaan sugam (TMS+PS)", "kaNNan vandhaan angey kaNNan vandhaan (TMS+SeergazhiGR)", "Pachai kiLi muthu charam (TMS+PS)"....
Something common here... TMS & PS were part of most of such songs :-)
A pathos info on "16 V"... A function was held in 1978 in Hotel chola to celebrate the grand sale of crossing 50,000 records or so. A golden disc was also released. Almost all top artists were honored with presentation of the disc, except P. Susheela, though she had sung another hit song of the movie "sevvandhi poo mudicha". It was not given to her, though she was presnt in that function. Reasons were not transparent. But later she was invited to SA RajkaNNu's office and was presented :-( Poor PS.. she did not make this a big issue !

Have no idea, but some "general error has occurred" message keeps poppping up everytime the streaming starts. Must be something here, and I will take a look. thanks for the comeback.
OISG/Vengayam
Let me add Adaludan Padalai Kaetu Rasipadhilethaan Sugam Sugam Sugam.
These songs warm the heart, and stir such love - I mean the sheer sensory pleasure - and delight. Sugam Sugam Sugam.
What makes me shudder is the thought that 20 years down the road O Podu will be nostalgia high for so so many...
Let's count our blessings. Our flashbacks are filled with such an abundance of goodness.

raja m- Santhome beach?---romba pakkam vandhuteenga!
Neyar Viruppam was definitely Monday night, and the announcements were by a female with a slightly manly voice.
Other popular announcers on Vividh Bharathi at the time were Aziza Gani, Shanthi Thanikachalam, Jahanara Begum and V Papian(who could never get 'Varthaga oliparappu' part of Vividh Bharathiyin Varthaga Oliparappu' right !)

subbu & OISG,
illai naan marath thamizhan ( athenna mara thamizhan!)
Saravanan for once i can throw some light those days the songs would be around 3 minutes duration and as such records for singles used to be made with that in mind.so you had two songs per record. If it exceeds this duration the recorsing was done on the other side. hence we used to hear a pause when the songs were aired. It is side A & side B not two records as it were. The other option was LPS long playing records which were for 40 minutes . This left producers witha problem the no of songs had come down to six/eight so there was lot of recording space available. So you had dialogues on one side . But this was done only if the films were popular - Kadhalikka neramillai, tiruvilayadal etc-so initially the songs were released in singles.
To beat this problem the recording companies had then come up with EPs (extended plates ) which would hold upto three songs per side and thus an entire film's songs could be accomodated . Then Ccs and now Cds have come!
For us- cousins-who grew up together & depended on radio for songs these double side songs were always a double edged weapon as it were.! If they played a song you liked fine otherwise it was just eating into the time alloted so it meant one song less. We used to bet that this particular song would be featured so if you were trailing the choicest parlimentary expletives(?!) were thrown at the announcer!!

Song of the Day: en gaanam indru arangErum from eera vizhik kaaviyangaL.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/engaanam.rm
- Here's a classic song to get into the weekend mood. This is a song from one of IR's greatest albums. EVK had IR at his creative best, experimenting with guitar interludes, with beautiful piano pieces and what not. The song, en gaanam indru arangErum, itself, you might have heard in other songs of IR. But the orchestration, the mood, the mind-blowing prelude, all makes this song unique.
- Shankar describes the song thus:
2.En gAnam -IR,Jency antony.
The prelude has 2 acoustic guitars set to diff tunes, when the pallavi starts, one of them goes silent ,the other one follows the vocals.
The first interlude has a conversation of a piano with a group of violins.
The second stanza starts after a violin piece and it pauses suddenly. The guitars take over and now Jency starts.
This song can be easily given 9/10.
- The lyrics for this song is by IR, apparently.
- Udhaya terms eera vizhik kaaviyangaL as:
Easily the best experimental album by Ilayaraaja. Spellbinding musical vignettes-En Gaanam, Thendralilae-with Debussy-like piano pieces by IR that defy any available musical label. Wrought in my favorite IR era, back when he roamed the musical arena unleashed with reckless abandon, before religion would find and ground him, before blockbuster producers would swarm and smother his creativity.
- Kanavil midhakkum from EVK was featured in SOTD earlier.
