"Mellisai Mannar" "Akila Ulaga IsaiChakravarthy" MSV is undoubtedly a person who has served tamil film music industry with the greats around.
Imagine doyens like Gemini SS Vasan, AVM Chettiar, Nagi Reddiar in the production side, great composers like G Ramanathan, CR Subburam, SM Subbiah Naidu, SV Venkatrama Iyer, KV Mahadevan as contemporaries, Udumalai Narayanakavi, Pattukkottai Kalyanasundaram, Marudhakasi, Kannadasan etc., around, when MS Viswanathan succeeded a new Era of Film music, with competent challenging singers like Trichy Loganathan, CS Jayaraman, Seerkazhi Govindarajan, TM Soundarrajan, PB Srinivas and other singers like P Susheela, Jikki, LR Eswari, Jamunarani and others.
It was film industry then and not called film business as at present. Strict quality control was being enforced and a variety was given by unique identity for each song be it tune, lyric or singerwise. Remember not everyone can become a producer those days and there were not many films numberwise. There was restricted film productions with more knowledgeable technicians. Despite all this, the melodies composed by MS Viswanathan alone and with TK Ramamurthy rose above all challenges and are still ringing even today.
It is a fact that each song sounds with a pep of a new song till date. I want all our unbiassed fans and friends to post their opinions about his melodies.(NO FANATICS PLEASE)
Tell me, if Iam wrong, when I say :
"The name of the singer could be identified with the song of MSV ( although making it TMS song, Sirkazhi song, PBS song, Suseela Eswari song etc)" - You cant do it most of the songs after 1980s.
"You can totally hum a BGM, sing the song with the BGM melody and rejoice" - Even this was absent in songs after 1980s, especially with other Music Directors, though they are great.
"Number of movies worked alone dont count for excellence in music"
"To compose a song with a variety in the tune, excellent rhythm changes, newer orchestral arrangements with a boon entry in the then TFM scene,(Imagine Puthiya paravai -Western, Aayirathil oruvan - Karnan -Hindusthani etc) was a revolution"
The Great master did it! Undoubtedly he needs to be appreciated.

Rajeev,
The following is from your post in an IR thread.

So called Rajeev,
I have about 50 movies of IR in CDs (not mp3s). You think i collected not to listen to it. Its doesnt mean I dont like MSV. I like his songs a lot, esp. during late 70s. I listen more to IR songs than MSV, because of my 'personal taste'. May be your perception of MSV is true and he is great, but the bottom line is I like IR more.
But trying to fool us with differnt names just damages your credibility not mine.

Try to understand the basic. Dont discuss nos.
Discuss music and prove it with your arguements posted if you are right. Only cowards posts vague statements giving excuses and comments.
Let us consider, for the sake of discussion, that these points are posted by the same person in the same computer in different names! Where is your answer for the discussions posted?
Why dont you people try thinking out reasonably and say yes 'he is good' and stop with that? I've seen you doing that also(there is no other go-You'll have to call a spade a spade), but why with frustration.

Rajeev,
1. I'm not posting under different names in this thread; I have better things to do with my time.
>> Do you have any such songs for the present day heros done by the current MDs (exception of Muthu, Padayappa etc) Therevolutionary songs composed for heros during 80s by other music directors were so so and did not catchup with the spirit.
2. This was a question someone asked. And, the thread has since proceeded in that direction. No one is being a fanatic about any particular MD, nor did anyone intentionally started comparing. In fact, it was you, who brought in IR's name. Note that I had also listed 'Erimalai Eppadi porukkum', which is not an IR song. I was only trying to state that MSV was not alone in giving out revoutionary songs; there were/are others as well. If you have a problem with accepting that, I dont care.
3. I have never head the songs you listed in political speakers; probably they were used by Sivaji, when he was serious with Congress(I). They are now reduced to Ninaivu NaaL songs, like Nehru, Gandhi, Kamaraj jayanthi's.

Nowadays melody is nothing but singing slow.
G.Raghavan, could not agree with you more!!!
Some more "attributes". Singing slow without a rhythm (for it requires a properly formlated tune for a rhythm pattern to be composed) with the base rAgA being ABCDXyzKurinji. Furthermore, the "tune" has to be insipid without any vibrance and potency whatsoever and HAS to be sung by one of those "thodai thALam" specialists for it to be accorded some respectability. Listeners who have been exposed to the variety ,range and the sheer unconventional nature of melodies that TFM once boasted off, will second my opinions on these pseudo-melodies.

Nice one old tfm fan;)) Perfectly agreeable. as a result the melodies tend to get monotonous. another attribute the singer singint it very slowly tha u can sometimes barely hear what he is singing. for example in "thendrale mella nee vesu" u cannot hear unni in certain parts of the song. they are what u call pseudo-melodies.

I was listening to a collection of KJJs melodies in a CD. It had new and old songs. Belive me or not, Athisaya ragam(Aboorva ragam), Thanga thoniyile(Ulagam sutrum Valiban), sounded brand new. We could enjoy the melody, words, orchestration and we could repeat it while humming it with the family. It was joyful and that is what music is meant for. MSV did it! Long live the Great master of all times!

when the hindi block buster yaadhon ki baarat was remade in tamil... ( as an asisde guess the film director you'll be in for a surprise) the easiest thing would be for the MD to lift the tunes from YKB and create a catchy ,successful album. Not so for MSV,
it has three lovely melodies
1.Ennai vittal yaarum illai
2.NEEla nayanangalil
3. Kaathal enbathu kaaviyam aanal
Just listen to KJJ , P suseela you are simply transported to a different world.
Like in cricket so in FMusic, keep it simple.ie why sachin's forward defensive push races past the hapless bowler. So too MSV's tunes simple & uncluttered it keeps you going back far more.

So many MDs have made original songs when movies were remade. So whats big news in this?.
Next thing you will tell is MSV has his own son.
How about inimitable SAR and versatile DEVA using same tunes when Telugu movies are remade? no mention about it?
