I'm a new visitor to this website. I couldn't see anyone discussing about Vani Jayaram's songs.
Let me start this one.(It had been there previously pls. forgive me!)

  All songs in raagam is really good! One of my favourite is "Ambaadi poonkuyile paadum anjana poonkuyile". great composition.
  About the link, I will try to upload as early as possible.
  Saravanan's posting given almost the complete feel about the programme. I want to add one more line.

  Naaz:The tamil version of the Anuraag song is also by PS, and a wonderful song it is: 'Maadham oru poo malarum '- it is a memorable song, sung with characteristic grace by PS- KRV singing to her son- when the son is dying, she sings it again, and this time it is a heart-rending pathos version.

  Nutan, Saradha, KRV - they are all a blur, as I saw the film in all three languages. And cried in each one of them :-) But for some reason, the PS song escapes me. Is it available anywhere? If I hear it again, I might say I have heard it before...its the tune thing. It's odd that I should remember Omanathingal by PS from Ragam (which I saw on Sunday "noon TV") and not know the tamizh version, which I saw on screen!

  I think the first thing to do regarding the questions is to compile and consolidate them one questionnaire, omitting all overlaps and filling up deficiencies. Once you have that you could simply go in a chronological order of her career, I guess. I don't know if I answered your question or not.
  
  Also, to all the junta here and most importantly our RWE-Saravanan sir: Does anyone know if Raagam/Anuraag/Neelamalargal has been made in Telugu? Any information about that?

  Naaz/ Kaumudi: I don’t know if Neelamalargal was made in Telugu as well. That there was a Malayalam version is itself news to me!
  
  The success of their Annapurani (1978) starring KR Vijaya in the title role, prompted veteran directors Krishnan-Panju to make films with KRV in quick succession. Annapurani was followed by Nadagamae Ulagam –1979 (KRV, Mohan), Neela Malargal-1979 (KRV, Kamal, Sridevi), Velliratham -1979,(KRV, Vijaykumar, V A Nirmala) and Mangala Nayaki- 1980 (KRV, Srikanth, Saratbabu, Shobana)
  
  The 5 films are especially memorable for their wonderful songs. Annapurani, Nadagamae Ulagam and Mangala Nayaki had music by V Kumar, while Neelamalargal and Velliratham had music by MSV.
  
  Neela Malargal and Mangala Nayaki were remakes of Hindi films, Anuraag and Sajan Bina Suhagin respectively. After watching KRV's performance in Mangala Nayaki, Nutan is said to have remarked that KR Vijaya had brought refreshing shades in her portrayal..
  
  Coming to Neela Malargal- KRV, Major S, Kamal and Sridevi were cast in the roles played by Nutan, Ashok Kumar, Vinod Mehra and Moushmi Chatterjee respectively.
  
  Neela malargal had good songs like Maadham oru poo malarum-PS, Ithu irava pagala-KJY-VJ, Angatha naattil vaazhnthirunthaalae oru rajakumari-SJ and Pesum mani muthu rojakkal-SPB
  
  Naaz- wish I could provide you with a link to this song- this lullaby by PS has everything a lullaby should have- PS winningly brings out all the feelings of the magic called motherhood- the hug of a mother, the assurance of her protection, the warmth of her bosom, the comfort of her lap, the omnipotence of her love and the pledge of its permanence---one’s soul thrills with the long-forgotten reactions that the song evokes—and one longs to be a child all over again—

  The last two lines gather poignant significance in the end, when the son, who is now in his deathbed, asks KRV to sing the song one last time.

  Once you added the "allippoo" at the end, the whole tune opened in my memory! Yes, I now remember this song. The whole "riddle" concept, which runs through all three versions, what aptly "regionalised" in this particular instance! Thanks for this "memorypoo"!

  Your translation is so authentically done (mine was more transtyping while humming the song, all of 3 minutes, and it shows :-) you might want to consider doing a few of the ghazals at the website (Thu Hamein Jab Kabhie, and Ki Zamane Ne Jafa are my picks) for our reading pleasure...Janab, Haan Kahoge?

  I am back with another translation (while Saravanan writes up another episode of VJ's songs) of one of the most popular and probably one of the best IR-VJ combo songs in Telugu. This song is more than 20 years old but the composition combined with its rendition makes it feel as young and refreshing as it was when it was composed. This beautiful song and one of my favorite VJ solos is Alalu kalalu from the movie Seethakokachiluka. This song is accessible in the VJ website.
  
  The movie (which was a remake of Alaigal Oyvathillai) was a big experiment (read risk) at the time it was produced. Two negative points were the following: It had an offbeat romantic story as the main theme intertwined with inter-religious marriage and it had two unknown faces (Karthik, then was called Murali, and Aruna) as the lead characters in the movie. But the movie had music by IR which later proved to be a huge plus point for the film’s success. What a major hit the songs were in the whole of Andhra! Minneti Sooreedu (SPB, VJ), Maate manthramu (SPB, Shailaja), Sagara Sangamame (SPB, PS) and our song for today Alalu kalalu (VJ, IR) played on the radio regularly. Surprisingly, this movie did not feature Janaki at all, although the original had the songs dominated by Janaki. IR did this exchange between languages and singers all the time, possibly to have some variety.
  
  Alalu kalalu is based on Suddha dhanyasi ragam, a very popular ragam with IR (his latest offering in this ragam is the Enna solli paaduvadho from EMV). Other songs in this movie based on ragas are Sagara sangamame (Hindolam), Minneti sooreedu (Subhapanthuvarali). I think this is one of IR’s songs, best suited for VJ’s caliber. The clarity of VJ’s voice in this song is conspicuous and probably infectious. I love the beginning of VJ’s portion of this song – when she says “Praanam praanam…”, oh she sounds so soothing! Also listen to that “thanana thanana ….” in the beginnings of the song and you’ll fall in love with her voice. IR (alongwith some other female singer, don’t know who) contributes a little bit to the song as a singer with the initial swarams but it is VJ who steals the show. The song itself is full of imaginative lyrics.

  Your pleasing (or interesting) mannerisms have made the moonlight shed even more of it. The roses adorning your plaited hair have even managed to make the jasmines red with envy. Atleast that way, they thought they could get onto your hair!
