  More Manisha news - in Baba of course. It should be funny to see Manisha as a orthodox brahmin girl in this movie.

  Hope Manisha has a stronger role in this movie than in Aalavandhan and even Mudhalvan. Her talents were wasted in both movies, and in the latter her character was so annoying.

  I dont know if that will happen WhyNot. As Rajini/Kamal movies are always dominated by the hero, and the heroines(s) have little part to play, it is more likely that Manisha will be a by-stander. Padayappa too was no exception, as Ramya got a stronger role than Soundarya.

  The superstar had tried to rope in Aishwaria Rai for his 'Padayappa'. But apparently she had no dates. But soon enough she signed Rajeev Menon's 'Kandukonden Kandukonden'. "A Hindi film of mine got cancelled, so I've given those dates to Rajeev," was her explanation. There was an attempt to get her to do 'Baba' too. But it seems the former Ms.World has no dates this time either. As far as one knows, she is having just a couple of Hindi films in her kitty. Whatever the reason for her not doing a Rajini film, her loss has been Manisha Koirala's gain. The Nepalese beauty is doing 'Baba', and she's been paid an advance too. Also in the cast are Kiran (of 'Gemini', Sanghavi, Ashish Vidyarthi, and Prakashraj. The formal launching is planned for 24th March, and the film is to be released on August 15th. Meanwhile, speculation is on as to what 'Baba' is all about.

  Your question regarding which baba our Rajini "Baba" is after has been answered in this article. It is thullasi baba. I dont know if that is the same person who you were mentioning above

  The excitement that has been building up in Tamil Nadu over the release of Rajinikanth's first film in three years - his last was Padaiyappa - reached fever pitch last week when Baba was formally launch- ed.
  
  The release date has been set for Deepavali.
  
  
  Rajinikanth has penned the story, based on an actual incident. The title Padaiyappa was shortened from Aarupadaiyappan (Muruga), so there was some speculation about what Baba had been abbreviated from.
  
  
  The Chennai media surmised that it might be Sathya Sai Baba or the terrorist Thullasi Baba. It has now been revealed that Baba is loosely based on the life of Thullasi Baba.
  
  
  At first Rajinikanth wanted one of the young directors but after consultation with the production team, it was decided to appoint Suresh Krishna.
  
  
  A R Rahmaan scores the music, with Vairamuthu responsible for the lyrics.
  
  
  Aishwarya Rai had been asked to play the lead role but she was committed, so she was replaced with Manisha Koiralla.
  
  
  Others in the cast are Prakash Raj, Goundamani and Sendhil. Baba will be Rajinikanth's 150th film and his most expensive , with a budget of R50-million.
  
  
  Some scenes will be filmed outside India, but all concerned are tight- lipped about the country or countries.
  
  
  Rumour has it the climactic scene will finally answer the question many have been asking: WillRajini follow in the steps of MGR and enter active poli- tics. His close friend, actor- turned-politician "Cho" Narainaswamy, feels the time is right , but we will have to wait for the release to find out .
  
  
  One of the priests at the Kalikaambal Temple, Sadhasiva Achariyaar, who conducted a special pray- er for Rajini's film, said: "I told Rajini-sir about the power he has over people. After Rajini went to worship at Thiruivanaamalai, thousands of youngsters who had never before been to a temple started making regular trips .
  
  
  "After Rajini started wearing the Udhraatchai, tens of thousands of his fans flocked to temples to get their own.
  
  
  "Such is his power over people. We need a man like him to change things."
  
  
  The Indian government has announced the annual Padmashree and Padmabhooshan awards for excellence in various fields.

  I heard that Aish was demanding 2 crores for the movie while Baba was only willing to offer a fraction of that for his heroine. That is probably the reason behind her rejection. But I heard that she had said in an interview that she wanted to act wit Rajini...but then it was some time ago and might have been a comment she made during a dryer season in her career.
  
  It's interesting how the term "Baba" is used in so many different societies and cultures. The Baba i mentioned (actually mentioned in the cinemaexpress article) is not the Thullasi Baba. Even the former king of Afghan is known as "Baba" by some of the tribes there. The real meaning is father, I believe. I dont know much about the terrorist baba.
