Dear Friends,
Let us vote for 'Adi Rakkamma' from THALAPATHI as our choice for the World's Top Ten Songs poll conducted by BBC!
I am suggesting this song because if in case the BBC people listen to the nominated songs, they will feel knocked out on hearing our Maestro's 150 Vioins' Strings Ensemble!
Let us all do it at:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/us/features/topten/
Yours Always Musically,
Vijay.

Kupps ,
My side ????? That calls for a drink!(I will have to wait till 6th )
WhyNot
This Rajinidotcom is a comic twist in the tale.Apart from IR no one (incl Mani) can claim it as their song.It is a good song and Rajini s contribution is that he did not spoil it much.
As our C~P puts it "Eppadiyo nallpadiya nadantha seri"."Rig" veda seems to the mantra these days in all the elections!I have received a chain mail originating from one of the biggest SW companies in India to vote for this song. The vote mobilisation drive shows signs of desparation on the part of IR fans.
BBC must be really having a fun time.Hope the Antartica vote is not by an HCIRF for RKT who flew to Antartica just to show a different IP address!

Strip Suresh of his neat vocabulory and stylish writing and what do you see?
A typical HCIRF.
So, what should you do?
Take everything he says with a pinch of salt amd then you won't feel so angry.
His long postings beg for rebuttals, but guess I have better things to do. :)

Friend, I've sparred with many but I still like to think that end of the day, we agree to disagree and leave it at that. Right here, I've had pretty heated tiffs with the likes of OISG et al ... but that hasn't stopped us carrying on a friendly discussion in a different thread with no ill-feeling.. Since I've opened myself to the charge of monopolising this digression, I'll revisit this thread only when the poll is done and rejoice or frown..

Best thing about all this is that even today IR's music does not need any "PR factory" as others need. No wonder all vayatherichal parties are spitting out venom at this moment;-) Take care people:-)

suresh,
Good posting. But I wonder if their current state of mind would let them think positive...or anything good about IR's music.

Rakkamma is a good choice to start off with IR for those new to IR. In the beginning itself that song hooks you right off the bat, what song has accomplished that. especially Rahman goes very slow and just trying his luck to get to the pallavi as fast as possible, but that his nature, no wonder he tries to do away with preludes and interludes.
We've to persist and I want Rakkamma to win by a landslide. I am expecting atleast 5,000 votes lead over others! But, if enthusiasm continues we can see 10 times more than that.
Long Live Rakkamma!!!!
By the way, everything needs pushing, no false modesty or any hidden power is going to make "people" of the world to give a new thing a hearing. Push and Push, and it depends on the enthusiasm of the fans doing it. I can see that there are no fans like that for IR ever. We completely believe in this man and his works and willing to do anythin for making it known to the world. Beatles depended on just one disc joceky in the US and he played the songs several times before the American people realized the newness of the music. Initially the music was scoffed at!!! Let me see anyone scoffin at IR's music even at the first hearing. It can only baffle not amuse and if the listener has a higher level of musical appreciation he will get deeper and give a second listening before he opens his mind totally. So, it is a lot of process, without pushing noone is going to know it is there in the first place.
As I predict for the last 20 years, which every thing is happening slowly and in measured pace, IR' music will be played nook and corner of the entire world in a few year' to come and "world people" will for the first time realize that such an impossible genius is not possible elsewhere except in India! Then people will realize the importance of an open minded approach to doing things, narrowness will be thrown away. I am just this short of telling that IR's music could be the first world religion! I've not been wrong 20 years!
It is a matter of time, people.

AT BBC:
BUBBLING UNDER:
• Stairway to heaven, (Led Zeppelin)
• My heart will go on, (Celine Dion)
• Million miles away, (Rory Gallagher)
• Dil dil Pakistan, (Junaid Jamshed)
• Whenever, wherever, (Shakira)
now, the polling makes sense and it is indeed heating up!

what ever said and done, ppl with real music sense should analyse/debate about music! being novice about the subject and trying to get into arguments is pathetic!let's FORGIVE those hapless beings! Infact Maestro himself claims that music composition is like doing magic[Yemmatru velai]in one of his live shows in Srilanka![What he considers as Yematru velai is nothing but Divine]
I hope ppl with senses would defanitely agree with this! we can never prove what's sound to a dumb, rather you can only pity them!

IR's PR factory is very much evident in this forum.
For anyone - who have never visited this forum and are blissfully unaware of talibanistic HCIRFs and the lengths they will go - seeing a Tamil song on the top will give them a sense of pride. As such the ONLY reason they will vote for this song is because it is a Tamil song.
I disagree with OISG that this song is IR's sole contribution. If Mani had not given such a situation, with all the possibilities open, this song may not have come about. If you notice closely, almost all MR movies carry this trademark song.
It is also very funny to hear veshti and IR being mentioned in the same breath, more so when making reference to this particular song.
Veshtis have been given even by someone usually despised in this forum, i.e. Deva. A good example being Thanjavuru manneduthu.
As for SMK and Ramana, it is hardly one month since Deepavali and it has already been declared a success. Even more ROTFL is attributing their success to IR!
Is it not enough that the man has grown too big for his shoes that even his fans have to behave in a similar fashion?

Having read words of wisdom from WN, Suresh, Are Yaar and musicfan, I have come to the conclusion that all of us regardless of who's fan we are, must vote for Rakama kaiya thattu.
It will be nice to have Tamil recognised for a change.
But that does not stop us from voting VM for the no. 2 position.
Hail IR. Hail ARR!

"As such the ONLY reason they will vote for this song is because it is a Tamil song".
nope sharma-ji,
the thing most of the persons who RECOMMENDED this songs were thamizh IR fans who are at ease to pick a nice IR song which is from thamizh. Had there been a hit telegu/malayaaLam/hindhi song of IR proposed by one non-thamizhian then also these "talibans" would have voted to see their icon's name come at top, whats wrong. The same is the case with the other "talibans", ARR Fans. There is no chauvinism about it which u perceive here.
"If Mani had not given such a situation, with all the possibilities open, this song may not have come about." --- giving money and asking for superb tune is NOT contribution, it is CONSUMERISM(not telling in any bad sense). Btw what splendid scene/situation that song had to have such a superb song? A typical hero introduction section thats all whats so gaa...gaa about it but u see a splendid song there.
Have you listened to "aanandha raagam kaetkum kaalam". That song also has a splendid orchestration like RKT. Do you think the "MANI" of that film could have contributed to it?
Anyway as per my (pollaadha punnaakku )conviction im not voting at all. Here I differ from OSIG (back to the track), where as per his (pollaadha punnaakku )conviction he is voting for some inglepees song :-)

I like this kind of argument Kupps, where there is no ill-will and is done "professionally".
>>>>the thing most of the persons who RECOMMENDED this songs were thamizh IR fans ...
This is only true insofar as this forum is concerned.
For the outside world, it is enough that it is a Tamil song.
>>>>Had there been a hit telegu/malayaaLam/hindhi song of IR proposed by one non-thamizhian then also these "talibans" would have voted ...
Aha! This is what I meant. I would not have voted for it if there had been any other Tamil song.
Similarly would have any other normal person. :)
My contention is, do not make it as if this song is the best Tamil song or that this song is on top only because it has music by IR. I cannot buy that.
>>>--- giving money and asking for superb tune is NOT contribution,
We are working on assumptions here. I am assuming that MR would have described EXACTLY what he wanted from IR, while you are assuming that MR would have just given the money and asked for any tune from IR, i.e. do a Ramarajan/Mohan.
My assumption is stronger, as evidenced by the general quality of MR songs. :)
