Hi kalai,
thanks for ur views.
If this is the case Ps might be even compared to Priyanka Chopra or someone who has sung her own song.
Sorry for being sarcastic, but this is meant only for kalai.
For a great legendary singer who has addressed jawans in war fronts in late 50's and worked with such great MD's my God the comparison is to see PS in chitra's boots. What a time has come for PS kalai.

Dear pals,
No doubt Chitra is a good singer in tamil & also, it is accepted that kavita messes up a few tamil word pronounciations because of her complete north indian brought up. But, analyze this:
1.The range over which Kavitas voice rules is wider. She is a blend of everything that an Ideal singer should be. Chitra can never sing an open opera. Beleive me, Kavita has done this flawlessly in Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja.
2.Any singer can sing songs, but Kavita gives life to her songs.Check out Kavitas Hindustani classical numbers. She gives all her soul to the song.Chitra can never sing hindustani classical numbers as superbly as kavita.
3.Now,this does'nt mean that Kavita cannot sing carnatic. Dont forget "Kehta hai mera ye dil" from Jeans.Do you think Chitra could sing that better? Chanceless!! There is no better for the BEST!
4.Now coming to the songs "Uyire" & "Tu hi re". This is for people who feel Chitra was better in the former. The pitch to which Kavita takes the song is far higher that what Chitra takes. obviously at such high a pitch voice goes shrill!
Beleive me, at that pitch Chitra would have sounded wolves!
5.Now coming to low pitch. Chitra cant even think about singing the low pitched lines "Ishq par zor nahi....." from 'tu hi tu'in Dil Se. One ends up wondering whether it is a female voice! I think the only singer throughout india who can come near to giving such a basy voice is S.Janaki.
6.Kavita has immitated Shamshad Begum in "Mujh pe bhi" from "saat rang ke sapne".Chitra can never manage such an nasal voice.
One thing I would like tell all of u here is that while comparing voices do not take language as a barrier! Kavita of course does not pronounce tamil words as correctly as Chitra does. But, that does not make Chitra as a singer better than Kavita.
Chitra is an excellent singer, no two words about it! Infact she is better than all other singers in north including Alka Yagnik, Anuradha Paudwal, Sadhana Sargam etc...But in comparison with Kavita, She looses!
My rating for best singers is:
Female:
1.Kavita Krishnamurthy
2.S.Janaki & P.Susheela
3.Asha Bhose
4.Lata mangeshkar & Chitra
Male:
1.Sonu Nigam, SPB & Yesudas.
2.Unnikrishnan & Hariharan
3.Sreenivas & Abhijit
5.Shaan & Udit Narayan
And the worst nightmare singers are
Female:
1.Alka yagnik, she deseves to be thrown out!
2.Sunidhi chauhan.
Male:
Kumar Sanu. He uses nose more than mouth for singing!

Some people just politely say, "I am clueless in this topic". Others, like you, do not have the confidence in their audience's mental maturity and keep wondering, "Will they get it if I just say it in a simple sentence?". So they write long paragraphs with incorrect statements, illogical conclusions, and downright absurdities to convince the audience of their cluelessness. Despite your absence of faith in us, we assure you, we got it this time. Thanks for the clarification.
By the way, judging from your post, Kavitha must have sung tu hi rE at a pitch even higher than hariharan/KSC/the required scale. Somehow, I felt the same way too :-)

She gives all her soul to the song .
Might have been very true with the very first song she sang (I do not know what it is BTW). Now we all know the reason for the obvious, with the rest of her songs :))).

Dear Mr/Ms/Neither RajaGi,
Let me make it clear to u and ur CHAMCHA that this topic has been raised for public to express their views on artists and not to comment on others views. U are no one to call my views absurd! If my views are absurd then even "INSANE" as a word wouldnt suggest what ur views were!
And ofcourse i didnt have confidence in the readers(not all but readers like u and not "Audience") mental maturity of all the readers as u have rightly stated (U being one of the reader of what i have written makes it obvious & justified. Thanks for showing of ur inferiority!)
And to u CHAMCHA(hihi), I hope that u know what people who laugh for nothing are called!!

RajaG reminds me of the guy in "Glimpses of world history" who carries a huge latern on his head saying it is to enlighten the ignorant people around!!What a disaster! And pls comment in ENGLISH. I do not have tamil script on my comp!
And u lols, Chitra made a bigger joke of herself in the latest episodes of SAREGAMAPA.
She couldnt even respond to the hosts queries.
Moreover co-judge Kumar Sanu with Chitra beside him said "mere baju me MUSIBAD bhaiti hai!"("there is TROUBLE sitting next to me") & poor chitra didnt even understand & kept on smiling as usual. And please I was not happy with the incident as in ur case!I beleive in humanity first & criticism next!CANT U FANATICS COME OUT OF LANGUAGE BARRIER & THEN COMMENT. DONT BE RIDICULUS!!For heavens sake,Kavita is no orator she is a SINGER!!!
And hihi I liked ur attitude man! I hope u can remain like this througout ur life.

RajaG and hihi :-) and praveen:
I am a fan of Kavitha Krishnamurthy and Chitra - both.
Kavitha seems to have been much maligned in this thread. each to his own...and here let me express my opinion.
Kavitha K is a great singer for Hindi movies. She is wonderful for semiclassical songs. I had mentioned about a month back here about her song in the film Bhairavi. Her semiclassical number in Hum dil de chuke sanam, her songs for the Lok seva sanchar Parishad ("bajE sargam" and "puurab se soorya ugA"), in 1942 Love story, Mr India and Khaamoshi are treats for any discerning music lover.
Moreover she has to her credit a large number of private bhajan and ghazal albums, which unfortunately are never noticed by the Hindi audience, due to their obsession with trash, considering the state of Hindi film music since early 90s. I have heard a couple of classical ghazals she rendered in a joint album with Devaki Pandit and Shobha Gurtu. She has also done an excellent album of Meera Bhajans with Suresh Wadkar (released by HMV). Her rendition of "aeri mai.n to prem deewani" is divine, nothing more to say. In the recent "devdaas" she has sung a song under the tutelage of Birju Maharaj - "kaahe chhed chhed mohe..". The way she sings the verse "kar pakadat churiyaan sab sarki.n sarki.n sarki.n....oh ma_ee, apne jiya kee sunat naahin maayi, binda shyaam manat naahi.n" is impeccable and amazing.
Apart from this, she also sung plenty of Rabindranath tagore songs in Bengali. And not to mention her rendition of classical songs in Saaz, Gajagaamini for Zaakir Hussain, Bhupen Hazarika. Today, whenever a classical song is to be sung in HFM, its Kavita all the way.
Her versatility and voice control are excellent. She is fabulous for the lighter variety too, like "hawa hawaii".
But the best of Kavita's performance so far is IMO her album of classical songs with Pandit Ronu Mazumdar, a great Hindustani flautist. Kavita's rendition of the typical radha-krishna dialogues showcases a cascade of emotions in the listners. Yet another example is the film Sur sangam where she sang semiclassical duets with Rajan and Sajan Mishra, the Hinsuatni classical maestroes from Benaras.
Above all, she has a flawless diction in Hindi and many Northern regional languages. Considering that she is Tamil speaking, it is a great achievement. IMO she is the only South Indian female singer (considering the mother tongue) to have a 100% native accent in Hindi, urdu. Her English diction is also impeccable. I have heard her singing some of Elvis Presley's songs and ballads in a concert.
No wonder, she has got to perform for a considerable amount of time with Hemant Kumar,
R D Burman, Ronu Mazumdar, Ravindra Jain, Ilayaraja, ARR, Salil Chaudhary (listen to the way she sings those difficult tunes of Swami Vivekananda with complete felicity).
Yet people here say - "Kavita cant sing". Oh well, I guess they havent heard the above-mentioned songs. :-)
Praveen - having said all this, I will definitely not place Kavita *above* Lata, Asha, PS, KSC,SJ,VJ. But I do believe that she & Chitra do have a place amongst those legendary singers....
Lastly, Praveen is entitled to his opinions. It is unfair to ridicule someone in this manner, call him names, throw tables and chairs at him, just because his opinions dont tally with ours. Disagreements can always be voiced more elegantly.
And Kavita is definitely fabulous in "Tu hi re". So is Chitra in her version. Honours are equally divided between them in this song.
PS:
Praveen - which is that "open opera" song you mentioned? Can u post a link to it?
