Guys,
Please listen to the songs in the following link, and tell me what you feel..I am seriously trying to analyse how anyone can even hate IR...I mean seriously!! (Please select song no.9)
http://www.mail-bag.com/Malayalam.shtml
Please take no offense, I mean, this genius IR needs our support, always bruised and neglected by the very same guys who wee once falling at his feet, I am very sad that he doesn't get the praise that he deserves. He is like a "Vatradha Nadhi", can never run out of tunes, can never run out of marvels. Even his latest "FRIENDS" (both Mallu and Tamil, and mind you, they are totally different!!) was such a treat!!
I was listening to some of his songs at work, to be more specific, his "Friends" in malayalam. This album has 100% class, I was crying in ecstasy!! My colleague cameby, saw me crying, and I had to lie to him..
IR is my Man of the century. Infact, I am not ashamed to admit, I have cried many times listening to his songs..in front of my family while travelling in India this time. I told my brother who was driving, that I would give IR a million dollars if I become a millionaire, it looks like I mean business!! IR's music gives me all the ecstasy I need, I have listened to Yanni, MJ, Huey Lewis and the News, GNR, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eagles, Mark Knopfler, ABBA, Metallica, Pet Shop Boys, Sting..etc.. but they all, all of them, don't compare to the great Music Maestro.. not even a chance.
I want to know if there are any other IR-Crazy guys like me.
Finally, no offense meant, but any TFM (any music fan infact) who is not an IR fan are fit to pour molten lead into ther useless ears. IMHO.

Sorry, i forgot to quote the first line in the above post. Read the above post like this.
/*With all due respect, ARR and the likes (including the zero-talented, flash in the Pan Harris Jayaraj) should give up making any music at all, and work for IR..atleast they can partake in the joy!!
To be honest, I have long given up listening to any Indian music but the Maestros, honestly, I try, but I always fail in appreciating even the best of ARR or ANu Malik or the likes. I simply can;t help my addiction to IR's music. I simply can't!! */
U talk like an bigot, if u can appreciate Ilayaraja's music and not others, then u have closed ur mind to new things, and I bet u wud appreciate the worst song by Anu MAlik if it is said that it has been composed by Ilayaraja. Give importance to music rather than the person, of course the person is important. And please dont call someone as zero talented and flash in the pan. He is not zero talented to play under som many MD's till today.

Vicky and Trend,
My aim was not to get into the bickerings between ARR and IR thing. But if you read my post at the intro, I think(my own opinion) none of the musicians in this whole wide world, whatever be their kind, but nobody matches IR in class and variety. Nobody has ever made me feel really emotionanal, except maybe MJ for "Man in the Mirror". I very sincerely feel the curent crop of "Music Directors" make an amalgamate of thagaradappa noises... not to deride them or ridicule them. If something is bad, you call it bad, or atleast I call a spade a spade.
Laloo Yadav is a politician alright, but he is a bad politician. There is a big difference between being something, and being GOOD in Something. IR is the BEST in what he does, and thats my point.
If it really hurt you guys, I am totally apolegetic, and I shall try to avoid it in the future. I mea, I don't have anything agains ARR or Harris Jayaraj..they didn't take anything from me...but IR GIVES ME JEEVAN....ENDLESS JOY...I am listening to "Thana Kinna" from Mallu "Friends" right now, and I am seeped in ecstasy. Peace.

Prabhudas,
It was good to see your posting. I agree that there was a generation gap. Fortunately I have grown up in the "Golden Era" of telugu movies and music and subsequently Ilaiyaraaja's. I am not sure if this was the case in TN, but in Andhra when any Raaja's movie released and the first thing people spoke of that movie was about Raaja and the music. The movie , even if it was mediocre, would have repeated viewers who want to listen to the BGM and movie looked classier with Raaja's music. I remember so many low budget movies which had low profile casting and a good story but still needed a punch or star value to make the movie's prescence felt. That star was Raaja always. Never before was the film industry's success dependent on the 25 min of songs this man composed for every movie.
Whether it was happy or sad feelings , I felt that Raaja, was expressing my feelings in music, which I could remember and cherish for all through my life. Hope the saga continues..
Trend: With all due respect... ARR should not have been dragged into this thread. But I can't help agreeing with Vimal as it is my opinion too, though in a not so strong sense. I hope that the new generation would try to learn from the Maestro and please take this comment in the constructive sense.
Isaac Newton, when asked in old age how he had made so many wonderful discoveries, replied:
"Because I stood on the shoulders of giants."
and as far as I know there bigger giant than IR in film music(in fact any music) that I have known.

Vimal,
Digression:
"If it really hurt you guys, I am totally apolegetic,"
You didn't hurt me.You dont have to apologize.Try to picturize me waving a white flag.-)
But I would like you to broaden your mind and understand one thing:
If you can say
"IR is the BEST in what he does, and thats my point"
"IR GIVES ME JEEVAN....ENDLESS JOY"
I or someone else feels,
"ARR is the BEST in what he does, and thats my point"
"ARR GIVES ME JEEVAN....ENDLESS JOY"
(Hope you are not going to sue me on a copyright issue here.-) )
I can identify with your emotion. So I expect you also to understand my emotion equally.BTW,I also call a spade a spade.
Everything IMO

Vimal:
It does'nt hurt me at all. After all you are trying to call a spade..a spade. Everyone has a right to voice their opinions and can choose their listening preferences whether its a singer or a composer. Thats the way it should be. You have to read what I have written. I hope you agree that everyone is unique in terms of their talent. Thats the point I want to convey. If you look at Classical Music, everyone has their place in history, the Baroque age composers (Bach, Vivaldi, Telemann) to Beethoven , Mozart, Antonin Dvork, Chopin, Schubert, Schumann, Verdi, Kachaturian and Gershwin. In the same token, everyone whether its GR or ARR or anybody for that matter have contributed something (repertoire) or other to film music scene, whether we like them or not bsed on our individual tastes. I am happy for you that you like IR and you are at peace with his music. Thats your preference.

I always felt the same way. It was IR who changed the scenario of telugu Film Music. He was the one who lifted the telugu film music to the great standards whether it is BGM or film songs. Particularly when it became monotonus with chakravarthy's music which was horrible.
Its a strange fact the IR got more national awards in Telugu than tamil or any other languages. The BGM's for even small movies were terrific. Vamsi was the one who got some great hits from IR. Films like Anveshana, April 1 vidudala, chettu kinda pledaru, kanaka mahalakshmi, etc., not to forget Maharshi. Even Viswanath and other directors did a great job with IR. IR was definetely a boon to telugu industry and I also am fortunate to grow up with IR's music. It has lot of memories atleast for me.
I also agree that bringing ARR in this thread was not necessary. But for one fact, the direct movies or ARR did nothing good for ARR as the music/films were flop. And after that no direct movies for ARR.

pathan,
Thats a nice song...!! But, I usually avoid sad songs, I listen to songs with good orchestration and melody...and the special "IR FACTOR"..can not be put to be words, but can only be experienced, like the beginning of the song "Indha Miniminikku" from Sigappu Rojakkal, or in the song "Kadhalin Dheepamondru.." when he goes, "Udalil Vandha Sondham.." you can feel the "IR Factor" in the background...gives you a fantastic feeling...IR has a stamp of class. Period.

Jag and NCR,
You made me feel extremely happy praising the MUSIC LORD and just voiced out my own feelings. I am also glad that I have got Telugu companions for glorifying Raaja. The golden era of Raaja's reign was of a lesser span compared to his Tamil's. It is a boon that Raaja has served us the tasiest dinner in telugu, ever encouraging to smacking lips, however listening to his Tamil (not dubbed or heard in telugu) cookies are a sort of 'Theertham" from the Music Lord. Friends, its time to learn Tamil and have the divine supper again, I feel, What do u say ? I mean this for the reason that it becomes difficult Raaja's cassettes, movies etc. I have learnt a few words (by heart) o hep me out.
Hail Raaja

Prashanth,
You got it right mate. Its time to learn tamil.
Especially I want to know the meaning of lyrics
like " En iniya pon nilave...", "Shenbagame Shenbagame..", "Oh manae manae...vellai roja",
and other classics.
IR 's music was a source of inspiration right from the word go. "Machanee.. " from Annakili, "Senthoora poove..." from Pathinaru Vayathinile,
songs from the tamil version of "Intlo Raamayya.. Veedhilo Krishnayya..." and hundreds more. Margathamani, recycles tamil songs of IR into telugu and telugu songs into tamil.
I have come to know from some interviews of Vamsi and KVishwanath, that IR likes to score music in Telugu. IR is the only contemporary music director who could understand that heart and feel Telugu.
Listen to "Kaliki menilo...", from Sankeerthana,
"Eenaadey eedo ayyindi ... ",from Prema, "Chukkalu Temmanna .. " from April 1 Vidudhala , "Kalayaa Nijamaaa...." from Coolie No.1 ., there is touch of telugu nativity. I am waiting for Raaja to come back to telugu and start the magic all over again.
long live the Maestro
Jag
