Guys,
Please listen to the songs in the following link, and tell me what you feel..I am seriously trying to analyse how anyone can even hate IR...I mean seriously!! (Please select song no.9)
http://www.mail-bag.com/Malayalam.shtml
Please take no offense, I mean, this genius IR needs our support, always bruised and neglected by the very same guys who wee once falling at his feet, I am very sad that he doesn't get the praise that he deserves. He is like a "Vatradha Nadhi", can never run out of tunes, can never run out of marvels. Even his latest "FRIENDS" (both Mallu and Tamil, and mind you, they are totally different!!) was such a treat!!
I was listening to some of his songs at work, to be more specific, his "Friends" in malayalam. This album has 100% class, I was crying in ecstasy!! My colleague cameby, saw me crying, and I had to lie to him..
IR is my Man of the century. Infact, I am not ashamed to admit, I have cried many times listening to his songs..in front of my family while travelling in India this time. I told my brother who was driving, that I would give IR a million dollars if I become a millionaire, it looks like I mean business!! IR's music gives me all the ecstasy I need, I have listened to Yanni, MJ, Huey Lewis and the News, GNR, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eagles, Mark Knopfler, ABBA, Metallica, Pet Shop Boys, Sting..etc.. but they all, all of them, don't compare to the great Music Maestro.. not even a chance.
I want to know if there are any other IR-Crazy guys like me.
Finally, no offense meant, but any TFM (any music fan infact) who is not an IR fan are fit to pour molten lead into ther useless ears. IMHO.

Friends,
i don't know how many of u are regular (irregular )visitors here in TFM, since 1997, I have been here visting irregularly regular since 1997. Lot of these comments/posts/openions/feelings about IR's music have been discussed many times, but still it is a welcome trend to see lot of newcomers (especially youngsters, Jag, I was surprised to see ur posting, u mentioned u were in sixth class at the time of "AS" release, for some reasons I thought lot of youngsters have not heard lot of IR's music from 70's and 80's, and hence there may be a small generation gap i music tastes towards IR's music). Although lot of very good threads on IR's music in this forum have lasted for long time in this last 4 years, none very strongly, except the new albums thread. Even this thread may go unnoticed, but it is always a joy to share our feelings and emotions towards IR's music.
I have been a HC IR fan for 2 and 1/2 decades, since Annakili, although I got to know some of the mid 70's release almost 10 years later.
I have a special relationship with IR music, his music has been the greatest inspiration ( don't laugh....., I have always improved my potential toward any of my work by listening to his music constantly, don't ask me how at all it played any role in doing so, in my life both during my studies and carreer), His music has helped me in so many different ways and so many difficult times of my life, to bring back the vigour , happiness, relaxation, when ever I had any stressful situation.
As Vimal said, these are the ages, when MD's recycle their own or other's music for even two entirely different movies ( this is no dig at any particular MD, I like lot of the other MD's work also), but imagine giving two different sets of tunes for the two version of Friends in Tamil and malayalam, and both are just fantastic, this speaks more about maestro's ability.
For the new comers, if u have not listened to IR's 70's and 80's songs, please find some how, (somebody mentioned about starting a site for exclusive IR's old songs in MP3, andha thread ae kaanama poyiduchu...,) I am slowly adding more old songs of IR to my MP3 collection, in the coming year I will try to host a website , with lot of MP3 (only old ones, which are either not available easily or difficult to find)
I recently added "Hridaya rangoli" of "Pallavi Anupallavi"'s pathos by SPS, a great inerlude music, with lot of emotions felt/expressed (?) just with voilins,
Long Live Meastro and his immortal music
Any good source of all IR malayalam movies , listing, availability of those movies in CD (preferrable) or MP3 formats, in US. I will appreciate your help, thanks in advance.

Prabhudas,
Thanks for the post. Have you ever CRIED in pure ecstasy when listening to IR's music?? I have many times, to be more accurate..I have cried in ecstasy when listening to "Thendral Varum.." from Tamil Friends. When HAriharan goes, "Alli Koduthen Manadhai.." there is this background musical synth. bit...dude..It is not even "Anandha Kanneer.."...it is pure ecstatic crying..!!
Likewise, the song the Charanam of the song "Shiva Mallippoove..", the synth bit in the background blows me over. Like you said, IR's mallu pieces are marvels..these Bas***ds in the Tamil film industry will never learn. Please, there is no song that compares to "Pon Veliyile" from Yathramozhi!!
With all due respect, ARR and the likes (including the zero-talented, flash in the Pan Harris Jayaraj) should give up making any music at all, and work for IR..atleast they can partake in the joy!!
To be honest, I have long given up listening to any Indian music but the Maestros, honestly, I try, but I always fail in appreciating even the best of ARR or ANu Malik or the likes. I simply can;t help my addiction to IR's music. I simply can't!!

Vimal,
"With all due respect, ARR and the likes should give up making any music at all, and work for IR..atleast they can partake in the joy!! "
I still don't understand why when people appreciate(exalt) IR they have to pass derogatary comments on ARR to convince themselves IR is the best(insecurity?).Till this point(above quoted posting),I was considering the thread to be one of high(not cheap) emotions and the intensity in the right direction.
If these are the high emotions(denouncing ARR to nothing)you derive while listening to IR's songs ............I'm puzzled!!!
I would like to see where the other fans of IR with high emotions lead this thread to!
All the above,IMHO

Vimal: In response to your current topic regarding highh emotions when listening to IR's songs, I wish to reiterate that there are many who would agree with me that IR has composed quite a few songs which surpasses all boundaries or demarcations set whether it is in terms of orchestration, composition the genius of vocalise rendered and so on....(In fact I have been listening to his compositions since 1976)
1. Engengo Sellum En Ennangal (SPB & SJ)
2. Uravugal Thodarkadai (Jayachandran)
3. En Ullil Engo Eangum Geetham (VJ)(gosh..how could some one come up with such a wonderful song. I am yet to listen to a song of such intensity in the last 20 years. I am awe struck)
4. Pon Vanam Paneer Thoovuthu (SJ)(well rendered)
5. Ondrodu Ondranoom (PS)(great vocalise)
6. Theiveega Ragam (Jency)
7. Thalatudhae Vaanam (Jayachandran & SJ)
8. Ore Idam Nirantharam (PS) (a very rare song from Sattam En Kayil)
9. Sandhakavigal Padidum (Brahmanandam) (excellent raaga)
10. Solai Pushpangale (PS & GAmaran)(great composition)
11. Megham Karukkuthu Mazhai (KJY & SJ) (a mesmerizing folk tune)
12. Edho Ninaivugal (KJY & SPS) (superb orchestration. Yet to come across a song of such intensity in the last 20 years)
More to follow.......Just one thought....Please avoid comparing the greatness of singers..Everyone is unique and each has a different singing style. You can see that from the above list.

13. Kuyile Kuyile (MV & Chitra) (a great folk number)
14. Gnan Gnan Paadanum (Jency) (a very rare song with a great "tempo" from Punthalir)
15. Thendral Ennai (Deepan Chakravarthy & Rajeswari) (good blend ....with a Ottmar Liebert resmblence)
16. Anbu Mugam (IR) (a well written composition)
17. Mayile Mayile (SPB & Sujata) (simple elegance....there's something to this song....that you hum even after its over....)
18. Koondhalilae Megum (KJY & SPS) (he is a magician...vow)
19. Endha Poovilum vasam (SJ)(great composition)
20. Kanan vandhu Padugindran (SJ) (Kinna Jazzy....)
21. Vaa Ponmalyile Nenjam (SPB) (soul stirring)
22. En Kanmani (SPB & PS) (well rendered and amazed by his swiftness of composition)
23. Poomalaiyae Thol serava (SPB & SJ)(speaks for itself)
24. En Vazhvile Ore (Jency) (yet to come across a song of such intensity)
25. Rasavae Unnai Naan (SPS) (a very powerful & emotional one one indeed and well rendered. Yet to come across a song of such intensity)
These are the songs which I listen frequently when you try to spend a quite evening or during mid-afternoon.
I feel that every composer (from Papanasam Sivan, GR, CRS, MSV, SVV, CR, ARR, ANR) has different style and they are unique. The bickering over ARR or IR is unwarranted (as I have seen here)and very immatured. I understand that listeners can have preferences, but, it should not result in derogation of one's style of composing. There a quite a few songs which ARR has done quite well. Music is for enjoyment ..no matter..who the composer is.

Hi Arul:
Mayile..Mayile song is by SPB and Sujata. I recall listening to this song in old Rex Site or in dhool.com. You might want to check those sites. I dont think you will get these songs on mp3 unless someone can do that for us. But most of the songs I mentioned are in Dhool.com, a very good site for TFM. Thanks to those people who maintain them. If you have "Gnan..Gnan" or 'Ore Idam..." from Sattan En Kayil, let me know.

U talk like an bigot, if u can appreciate Ilayaraja's music and not others, then u have closed ur mind to new things, and I bet u wud appreciate the worst song by Anu MAlik if it is said that it has been composed by Ilayaraja. Give importance to music rather than the person, of course the person is important. And please dont call someone as zero talented and flash in the pan. He is not zero talented to play under som many MD's till today.
