  ARR can beat IR only in the amount he gets for a film.Certainly not in QUALITY of music.Athu ethana varusham aanalum seri.
  Most widely reached and accepted MD among masses is undoubtedly IR than anyone else.
  From madras chamber orchestra to carnatic vidhwans,from writer sujatha to cycle kadai Kovalu,from mylapore mami to karaikudi aachi he is the most loved MD.
  U hav to commute a lot in TN to find who reached people more.See the display boards of Music shops,See students singing IR songs with IR hit pada padalgal book in their hand in suburban trains,See the percentage of IR songs sung by music troups,see the pencil sketches of IR in many die hard IR fans houses,listen to melodies played by radio stations in the night(it hsud be MSV & IR),go to any carnatic or western classical training and 75% examples shown while teaching will from IR's works,no fans for any MD's in india are as loyal to their MD's as IR fans..no one's music is as addictive as IR's.Taste it once and u can never come out of it.
  There is something more in his music than just music.Ithu sertha kootam kedayathu.Music aala thaana serntha kootam.He may not be charm,crowd pulling,gifted with wordplay's,out going,knack of soap'ing.
  He has EGO.That comes from the proudness of the knowledge he has on music.
  However u may try to critize or bring down Raja,He will be the same in the hearts of Raaja fans.Forver.

  With Only one movie lined up for ARR (Boys), I dont think he is the No.1 any more. The most sought out (not the best) is Vidhyasagar in Kollywood at present. And ofcourse "kottai illey Kodiyum Illey appavum RAAJA".
  My guess is ARR will be soon performing in marriage receptions and "mariamman koil thiruvizhas" soon after he completes his world tour of singing the same set of 25 songs in every part of the world.

  oh oh !! if you guys look at the number of films a MD has got in hand, then Deva , YSR would be the #1 MDs. Everybody knows that ARR doesnt accept many films together.
  
  IR 's great hits were during his peak - 80s. You guys have to accept the fact that the IR's music now is noway close to his 80s hits. you can still listen to his 80s hits. It has got so much repeat value but the same doesnt apply to his recent movies. Some of the songs in the recent movies might be good, but very few. and still, they fall short of his 80s standards. school padikkara pasanga IR song book vechittu padikaraanga naa almost all of them were his 80s songs. You folks have to accept the fact that IR has faded away in 90s (except a hit here and there) in the same way as all crowned him as the king of 80s. So, move ahead with the time. Maybe , when it comes to 2010, it would be someone else and not ARR ruling the roost. Time goes on ....

  Be clear when you start debating about #1. It would be better and easier to talk about the #1 among the current crop instead of debating about the all time #1 which is a bigger topic.
  
  And, if the discussion about the current crop, then no doubt.. YSR has to be in top 5. For his numerous recent hits and for coming up with his very own style of composing among the current crop which makes him special.But in my personal opinion, it should be still ARR as #1 now.

The guy who made millions of pounds composing nursery rhymes for bombay dreams and indian films? and, he is having concert of his last "10 years" reprisals? what song was worth going back to? in calcuttal,people only talkng about chaiyya chaiyya. so, what did Rahman really do for music that makes a serious music fan think about his music with nostalgia?

  If u say that he is not in demand and he is a waste now, then can you say that Lata or Susheela are waste as tehy are not in demand now..?
  
  Talent of any perosn should be respected.
  If you think that ARR is the best, that is for yu.
  He can never match melodious notes of IR.
  His selection of singers also sometimes goes worse(ARR)
