Dear Friends,
I am here to say that IR is not going below His standards in any way. I strongly object to the saying that He is not as creative as He was in Payanangal Mudivadhillai! The matter is that His music is more complex nowadays in fact to that range which we ordinary fellows cannot interpret, ok? He is Music Personified and His talent never ends and cannot be measured! Please get yourselves checked before posting such statements! I am sure that His albums are failing now due to lack of Star Value and Film & Director Values! Wait until He Ram! All His Fans are welcometo Maestro Ilaiyaraaja Fans Club at

Friends,
We have all been quite intently following what's happening to the music of IR. But what really happening is the decline of his interest in doing film music. Just when i reached chennai i bought the cassette of "time". But unfortunately for all the hype that the movie generated at the time of music composition it should have been a real musical treat. But it was not so. I doubt whether IR would have brought out the best in him for Hey Ram. As a MD he should first realise that the trend has changed and he should wake up to the reality. True, his talents are enormous that we are normal people who cannot realise his potential. But he should atleast change the type of his music being churned out. isn't it.lets hope for the best in his forthcoming films like "tirunelveli and Hey Ram and kannukul nilavu.

I dont think that IR has to follow the "trend" or wake up to the reality or whatever it is, because IR has been giving a good songs except some KUPPAIs like CHINNADURAI, RAJASTAN, THALAIMURAI, THODARUM. The problem here is his songs were not brought into the limelight or to the mass. Im sure that GUMMIPAATTU, KAAKKAICHIRAGINILEY, KADHALKAVITHAI, SENTHOORAM, TIME are better albums by him this year. And he has given some unique songs in other albums too.
Thendralai Kandukolla…/NILAVEY MUGAM KAATTU
Ilavenirkaala Panjami…/MANAM VIRUMBUTHEY UNNAI
Amman Pugazhhai Paada…/KANNAATHAAL
Thena Odum Odaikkaraiyil…/BHARANI
Azhage Unn Mugam…/ANTHAPURAM
Yenna Jenmam Intha…/KUMBAKONAM KOBAALU
Thiruvoona Thirunaal…/KAVALIAPPADATHEY SAGOTHARA
When others are copying everywhere from world and recyling most of the hit ones again and again, he still continues with his melody path. What really IR songs are missing is good lyrics and better picturisation and most importantly the limelight or film by big banner. Its loss to Tamil Music Fans… nothing else!

Any idea when HEY RAM audio is being released there?

Visiri,
I don't know when is the audio for Hey Ram is released. I heard that it may be released on the last week of December, just before the movie is released. But the latest reports say that the movie itself may be delayed till April(Latest Kumudham).Let's hope for the best. I heard a bit of the Tirunelveli song in sun tv's intro of the movie. That sounded good. The song is "olai kudisayile' probably sung by, unni menon.
If we closely observe what is happening to the music of IR we might find similarities of the myopia that a big organization suffers from when it comes to the top position. That is, it thinks that what we are giving is the best and the world is not aligning to it. Now IR is also in the same position. This view of myself is obtained when i was talking to his son KR a few years back, IR has stopped listening to contemporary musical trends. That is why his parallel contributions to creative music also stopped. We can expect real fight back of IR only when he realises that the trend has changed, but still there is a large group which fervently hopes for his best music in the recent times. I also hoped that his album, jeya jeya hey, and symphony will recreate IR. But we the hardcore fans of IR is made to wait, wait.
Let's hope atleast in the new year, we get the best of IR which i hope he still has it in plenty in him. I will write more on knowing ur's and all our other friends views.

The music magazine article says:
"Subramaniam has scored the music for Salaam Bombay and Mississippi Masala, but those were low-buget films with lesser-known actors"
Salaam Bombay had Naseeruddin Shah.
Mississippi Masala had Denzel Washington.
Who are they calling 'lesser known'?
Their theory about Subbu walking out because of money is probably only as good as this statement.
I wish Kamal would come out and say exactly why Subbu was replaced with Raja and dispell all these stupid rumors.

Koothan :
I see 2 reasons
1. Kamal might have tried to dominate LS,
(only raja can handle this, he is very good at that, I say this because I remember one incident in AboorvaSog...recording Kamal was very much concerned, he kept on saying something about the instruments placed in the song (Raja kaiya vecha), at one point raja asked kamal with a simle, to read the pallavi line once again loudly!, and asked him to be patient, surprisingly Kamal became very quite after that)
2. I feel the subject of the movie made him walkout,
I dont think money should be a problem.
I think LS will talk soon about it.

Visiri,
There is one excellent song " Kolusu konjum paatham " in Chinnadurai. This has nice interludes ( drum beats mixed with chorus ). Unni was not a good choice but still the song is enjoyable.
Did u listen to it.?
There is also a song set in keeravani ( Unnai pola yaarum illa ) which is good ( considering that it is for junk movie like chinnadurai )
Cheers

Srikanth,
I too feel that your reason No 1, is the most plausible one.
Reason no 2 is far fetched. Because, even I knew the gist of the plot when LS was signed. I am sure LS knew as well.
If it was the story line that bothered him, he would have walked out a long time ago.
MSK,
'Cinnadurai' has another pleaant flowing number ' pakkaththila nee irunthum paasathila naan thavichen' or some thing like that. It is nothing extra ordinary, but I find it very soothing.

Refer: Friday Hindu for 'Time' review.
Highlights:
1. "TWO ASPECTS of ``Time'' stand out - Ilaiyaraja's re-recording and M. V. Paneer's camera work"
2. "The mellifluity of the music when the titles are shown, especially when birds are seen gently flying away, with the soothing melody that glides as gently as the birds themselves in the background, is but one example of Ilaiyaraja's calibre as a composer. Among the songs, ``Kadhal Nee Thana'' makes an impact."
A true tribute to IR's excellence

It used to be D.S.Ramanujam who used to mess up reviews in "The Hindu" and now its the turn of "malathi Rangarajan". How in the world
can she overlook "Niram Pirithu" from TIME and write reviews about IR's re-recording.Its ludicrous to even think that Hindu hires such kind
of columnist.Atleast she had the basic sense to comment on IR's work as opposed to DSR. TIME as a movie could be terrible up but the
songs and re-recording are just awesome. Its just IR's "TIME" that such movies get overlooked to mediocre "Mudhalavan".I happened to
watch "mudhalvan" in chennai and boy!! ARR went one step ahead and did a cut and paste of "OMEN" BGM.He did this in "Thiruda
Thiruda".I remember it disticntly, it was train chase scene and the background was straight out of "eye of the tiger" from "survivors".It was I
guess his 3rd or 4th year in the industry and that was commitment personified. Anyway I do'nt want to drag this into a ARR/IR warfield but I
really got infuriated at TIME's review
