Harish, the songs sound nothing alike. Don't clutch at straws to try to bring down 7GRC. It is a great album and is the best album this year.

"but did u know HE WAS THE ONE composed the theme"
Dinesh... Chumma therinja madhiri kottathey...
I am a big fan of IR and I closely follow his music for many many years... IR composed that theme music and ARR programmed it in the keyboard.. Drums Sivamani even mentioned in an interview that ARR took a lot of time to program that piece in his keyboard. How about that? If you are a true ARR fan, search all his earlier interviews and find out what he said about that music and you will know..
Btw, why are THEY?! Who are you talking about?? Do you mean to say that whatever "THEY" like is good music?? How pathetic is that?? If they can't appreciate IR's music ask them about Bach, Beethovan etc.. they wouldn't like them either.. bcos that's the class that I relate IR's music to.

There is a difference between people who listen "Shakalaka Baby" and say "Oh.. great, what a good song.". And there are those who listen to "Putham Putham Kalai" (Alaigal Oyvathillai) - and say the same.
People who like #1 belong in the ARR category (typically).
People who like #2 are in the IR category (typically).
I do listen to both. I like #1. But, I like, admire & fall in awe of #2. That is essentially the difference bet IR & ARR.

Shakalaka Baby and Putham Puthuam Kalai?...
what a comparison...
why not Narumugaye and Putham Putham Kalai!...
p/s: I admire IR as much as I idolise ARR, but let the comparisons be fair

In response to what " From: Madrasguy (@ 4.10.79.74) on: Sun Jun 20 20:47:12 EDT 2004 " wrote........................................................................................
This is a perfect example of how "the guys who compares IR & ARR and thinks IR is better" sometimes aka "IR Fans" classifies ARR & "ARR's fans"
ARR is better known for his melodies like 'Poonkodiyin Punnagai' from Iruvar, 'Thendrale' from Kadhal Desam, 'En mel viluntha panithuliye' MayMatham...and for the haunting flute interludes or the soothing themes like Bombay theme. This is why most people like ARR, not for the fast pop songs like 'Shakalaka baby' or 'Girldfriend'.
IR gives couple of gana(something so the hero and his buddies sing and chase the poor girl in cycles) in his regular albums. This is there including in Alaigal Oivathillai. To judge IR from these ganas are as stupid as to judge ARR's class from the poppish 'Shakalaka Baby'!
IR & ARR defined their generation's music in tfm. Please do not insult either of them and also their fans.....

The talk of Shakalaka Baby came from one of the posters above :(-

I agree though
Narumugaiyae
Poongodikyin Punnagai
(Not so sure abt Enmel viluntha - but then again, individual opinions rarely agree!)
are good compositions from ARR. Likewise, Lagaan.
I also agree to the fact that comparing Shakalaka Baby to Putham Puthu Kalai may be wrong. Shakalaka Baby came up with one of the posters above - saying that its THE song to be shown to Westerners! I got a little led by that :(-
Hey, Peace!

it's ok...no problem...
love, hatred, opinion, preference, favouritism, idolization, globalization(couldn't find any more words) are very subjective issues....
so God Bless you ....

Has anyone come across this: "Podatha Thaalam Poda Vendum, Varaadha Raagam Paada Vendum" in Arangetravalai or Enn Jeevan Padhuthu is a great inspiration (actually a copy) of a famous Western theme made popular by James Last

dei dinesh,
it was Isaigyani who composed the song and rahman learnt from him.
dont be a stupid ok?
Rahman can never overtake Isaigyani the great.

ramki: Rahman can never overtake Isaigyani the great.
Overtake? Why does ARR want to overtake someone who was forced to quit TFM long time ago? Now IR comes once in a while and exits quickly and quietly while ARR's albums are always TFM's most awaited ones.

Have added the original version of Ilayaraja's Priya (1978) number 'Akkarai Seemai Azhaginiley'. The original is a famous british single from 1967 called 'Kites' by a group named Simon Dupree and the Big Sound.

Actually the instrumental version of the song here shows a clear lift of the pallavi by IR
http://www.advancedringtones.co.uk/simon-dupree-&-the-big-sound_ringtones_n.htm
I believe one more song from Priya "darling darling" was also listed as an inspiration, although not confirmed yet.

This IR vs ARR bashing has gone too much cliched..can you ppl revamp it in someother innovative format,so that the whole show can be enjoyable and entertaining. Its absolutely boring to read fanatic comments pouring here.

And about Yuvan's lift from Sandeep chowta's theme(Sandeep Chowta himself lifted it?)
Yeah,Yuvan's theme sounds a lot similar with Asoka's theme in parts, can it not be a coincidence...more discussions are needed here it think.
