I think that this must have been a different type of concert for Nithya, as the one's she gave in the UK were perfect Carnatic ones, not to mention, she was compelled to sing Kannodu and apologised that it is sung in a Carnatic concert and only sang it after the mangalam........

  Referring to NS concert, i think this is an eg of attempts to evolve carnatic music. its purely trial n error method of evolution. you try one way , dont get it?, try other way etc. im mainly referring to 'singing swaraprasthanas ony' comment. After all this is not her final concert, isnt it !
  if only we become narrow-minded towards evolution, no forgiving. in that sense, the trinities were revolutionaries in their time periods.

  I'm sorry to use the word "digression' to attract your attention, but please, this thread is to help people identify the Raga of a song. I have noticed that many a time the query posted regarding the raga of a song is ignored and a personal attack or comment is discussed in great detail (like the NityaShri episode).
  
  Please help us novices by sticking to the thread 'RAGA OF A SONG PLEASE'.

  personally i have difficulty in deifferentiating between gambeera naatai, naatai and jog. i think the songs mentioned by RR are based on gambeera naatai though iam not sure. kavidhai kelungal has a lots of shades of Jog though.

  Thathithom from Azhagan is Dharmavati, right? Or is it Madhuvanti?
  I think Aye Ayyasami from Varusham 16 is also the same raga. Amazing, the song Ennullil Engo doesn't sound like Dharmavati in the 1st place and the above 2 numbers I think are easily identifiable. IR has done a good job.
  
  Do you recollect the song from the film "Nenjamellam Neeye" sung by Vani Jayaram? It's a sad number, quite like Meghame meghame, ghazal type. I used to like it a lot. Which is the Raga?
  
  I would also like to know the Raga of the folowing songs:

  vijay, gambeera naattai is supposed to use only 5 notes, S G3 M1 P N3. If you notice the songs I mentioned, you can see one of the (unmistakable and lovable part) R3 to G3 and D3 to N3 transitions.
  It reminds you of chalanattai sometimes.

  if u like ghazal type song then u MUST listen to this song. it is from the film aaniver and it goes like 'muthu muthu therottam ennai mogham thalaatum'. music is by shankar-ganesh and sung by VJ. terrific song.

  Thathithom is definitely Dharmavathi. I had it confirmed in Ragam Sangeethm tv prog long time ago. Madhuvanti is janya of Dharma, if i remember correctly, so i believe you feel smilarity.

  As for the raga, it does sound a bit like Saaramati (e.g. Paadariyen)
  Who's composed the music for the above song?
  
  Is the Muthu Muthu song you mentioned available on the net anywhere?

  music by shankar-ganesg for both songs. good songs like these are hard to find by on the net.

  Srinivasan, "Kangal enge" is set to "Abheri" which is otherwise called as Bhimplas. Both Sudha Dhanyasi and Abheri are janyams of Karaharpriya. In this song, other Karaharapriya notes do creep in in the charanam.
