Last complete entertainment movie of Rajini i saw was Mannan start to finish. Music, Songs, Dance, Acting, Comedy, Fight, Sentiments, Style everything was in the right proportion. He looked young also. Rajini started and ended his singing career in this movie.

Baba's music by AR represents the steep decline in Tamil FM's quality and direction. Todays article in "Hindu" http://www.hinduonnet.com/stories/2002091602240900.htm
signifies the rot that has set in Indian film industry. AR's rise to stardom is one such huge illusion that all producers and movie directors have created. AR's music is so mediocre for a Rajini's movie that I wonder whether the movie flopped simply because of crappy songs.

You are right Awe... very ordinary music. ARR is a major culprit for this trend. He cares only about his songs becoming hit.. not the movie.. Gone are the days movies run for songs. Nothing can replace 80s Tamil movie industry.. Some of the best movies and music came in 80s.. Rajini and Kamal were at their peak in 80s.. Karthik and Prabhu started showing talent. Class directors like Maniratnam, Fazil started their career in 80s. Bhagyaraj, Bharathi Raja, Balachander, Balu Mahendra, Mahendran, S.P.Muthuraman, Manivannan, R.Sundarrajan were all at their peaks in 80s. Illayaraja was completely dominating TFM with quality music. People like Ashok kumar, P.C.Sriram emerged as fine technicians. Great actresses like Revathy, Radhika, Lakshmi, Sridevi were at their peaks. Plot and stories were far more sensible than these days. There is no real talented inform director around. Maniratnam is terribly out of form. I cannot consider Shankar by any means a great director. For all his seven wonder trip which was totally unnecessary, he is a director with no class. Stupid stories like Governers daughter(??)-Constable song love, Old man launching a crusade against corruption with "varma" fight.(can it be any more pathetic), Jeans (unbearable movie), Being chief minister for one day just like two small guys betting over who will reach home fast (another crap),.. sure people's taste change.. only thing it is changing for worse..

Uthaman, this is a result of your over enthusiasm in trying to criticise ARR. You know the saying, aathura kaaranukku puthi kettu...
Today's movies depend a lot on songs. Budget for songs have increased tremendously and songs are treated like music videos.
The reason for this new approach is ARR.
IR's period was the worst in the history of TFM, which was dominated by ego and pure crap. For every one good song, IR produced 9 other rubbish songs.
Songs were cheap and so were most of the movies.
Those were the days of Ramarajan, Mohan, kazhuthais and pannis.
Simply put, those were the days of no class.
But naturally it will appeal to like minded people who would be happy to see Tamil cinema going to the dogs.
For civilised people, the 90s saw a rejuvenation. A period when class returned to Tamil cinema.
Thank God for that. Thank ARR for capturing back Tamil's pride.

Hello God,
The three distinct TFM eras of 1940-77 (KVM,MSV),77-02 (IR,ARR,Deva) and 92-2002 (ARR)is there for everyone to judge. My point was that ARR's BABA is not upto the mark for any average listener.

"IR's period was the worst in the history of TFM" --
hehe God... Indha madiri kirukkan madiri ulradaha nirutha mattiya.. ARR started with crappy movie called Roja, then he gave another crap called Bombay which was identical to Roja,, then another crap called Iruvar, pudiya mugam.. yea 90s saw rejuvenation.. come with list of movies...
Mandirichu vitta adu - Prabhu Deva acted in 'classic' movies like 'Indhu', 'Kadhalan', 'badri' , 'deena', 'uyire', 'baba', 'veera', 'padayappa', 'dil', 'minnale' , ... which are intellectually more stimulating than 'Salangai Oli' , Mouna raagam, sindhu bhairavi, pudumai penn, manadil urudi vendum, unnal mudiyum thambi, mudhal mariyathai , Thanneer Thanneer, Achamillai Achamillai, Pagal Nilavu, according to our arivu jeevi God... Nayagan Enna oru mattamana rasanai irukkum indha 'God' ukku. Enna 161.142.100.86.... don't you have basic arivu.. endha oorda nee? malayasia kuppama? adhan ivvalavu backward taste unakku.. Moolai illaatha Raja, if you call Roja a crap movie, it shows your deficiency in your brains.
Talking in your same language, what class had movies such as Bhagavathipuram Railway Gate, Kaathal Parisu, Anne Anneh, Vaalivame Vaa Va, Sakala Kala vallavan, Orey Mutham, Garjanai, Paayum Puli, Karimedu Karuvaayan, Malaiyur Mambatiyan, Kuva Kuva Vathu, Oh Maane Maane, Naanum Oru Thozhilaali, Vikram etc etc...
Probably these are YOUR kind of class movies.
Anyway, with your kind of taste, I'd rather be backward and enjoy movies with class such as Iruvar and Roja.

Rajsekar, there is more to TFM prior to IR and after IR than what you have mentioned.
Don't be fooled by some idiotic postings here.

Raja some people neither understands tamil nor english. This god alias sheela is one such case.
He cannot match the movie list that you gave with any list.... so he is digging in to find some ordinary movies... he conveniently ignored movies like Moonram Pirai, sippikkul muthu. if we start digging in.. 90s have hundreds of such craps... that includes honoroable maniratnam's movies like Thiruda Thiruda, Uyire and Balachander's Parthale Paravasam. Bharathi Raja's "Daaj Mahkal".. Baba is the worst movie in the last two decades or so... I have never seen any major rajini movie got written off by all magazines like Baba. Even Fazil's best movies todate are poove poochudava and varusham 16. Apart from gems like Siraichalai, Bharathi, Anjali, Roja, Keladi Kanmani, Mahanadhi, Devar Magan nothing else could match 80s.. It is a well known fact that the screenplay, story-telling was taken to a new plane in the 80s... 90s is Maniratnam's political movies, Shankar's 'social revolution(??)' movies,
Crazy Mohan's dialogue filled movies... Just watch Kandukonden Kandukonden.. shot for shot i can say how ridiculous the movie is.. crappy adapatation of Sense and the Sensibility. Another advt. movie called Minsara Kanavu.. Infact 3-D movie came in 80s... not in 90s!! If you have ever seen 'poovellam kettupar' i think, surya and jothika... just watch the scene where surya says 'i love you' to jothika... sivakumar would committ suicide to see such an acting from his son. Vijay is another expressionless inanimate object. In the entire decade he just had to mention two movies.. No point in arguing with people like Sheela(161.142.100.86).

Uthaman, there has been crap movies in the 90s too.
But by ratio, 90s is far better than late 70s and 80s. And the fact that IR was the MD behind 95% of the junk of that period says a lot.
As for Kandukondeinx2, if you tear apart any movie, surely you can find faults.
You can find faults with Moondraam Pirai, Sippikil Muthu and even the Godfather inspired Naayagan.
But the fact remains, that Tamil cinema sank to a new low in the late 70s and 80s, thanks to IR and his lewd music and lyrics.

Yo God.. I am just curious... i searched couple of postings.. there was nobody named uthaman.. who are you addressing man? Address to people who are here.. don't talk like a lunatic to yourself. I think 80s movies are the best in TFM history. 90s are the worst period... Most of the stupid movies came only in 90s.. There is no question about that.. Dumbest movies started coming in after 1993 i guess. It is pretty obvious fact.. you don't need any research buddy... Man did you like Alavandhan, Baba by any chance? If you do step away from here.. 80s are golden period for TFM and movies... no doubt about that..
