Oops Sorry! The Jagathalaprathapan song has NTR singing in front of a big round stone - at the end of the song it explodes revealing a rishi who is totally irritated.....Memory at 30 isn't what it used to be at 20:-)
On a different note has anyone heard this song: Raadhamadhava vinotharaaja enthan manathin premavilaasaa...Sounds like a telugu dubbing. TMS & P Susheela duet heard while falling asleep last night. What in the name of heaven is a 'raadhamadhava vinotharaaja'?

1st of all, I wanted to say "Aah", and not "Aan". was a 'typo' from me! Sorry about the confusion! Interesting to note that "Aan" was dubbed into Tamil. But, a couple of Naushad tunes from it were adapted by Saluri Rajeswarara Rao for (L.V) Prasad Productions' "pempuDu koDuku" (foster son, 1953), sung by Jikki and AMR. 'Chotisi yeh zindagani' also exists as AMR's solo in Telugu.
Re: Jagathalaprathapan, I would be really curious to know whether Seerkazhi 'alone' sang it!! Even, in Telugu, its till-today-written that Ghantasala alone sang it, Pendyala using the technique of overlaying one track on the other. But, people involved in its picturization say the other way.
I should know the TMS&PS duet you are above refering to... will come back shortly.
Regards,
Sreenivas

JV Ragavulu is mentioned earlier. J.V.Ragavulu is the guy who sang the Telugu section in Sindhu Nadhiyin Misai Nilavinile from Kai Koduttha Dheivam. It starts like "Manasidhi Neekosam Mangala Neekosam Mamathavesam Mayani Madhubalam". Wonder whether this is a popular verse in Telugu?

Srinivas ,
Could you elaborate on the track-overlaying deployed by Pendyala. Is it true that Pendyala gave Ghantasala somewhere close to a month to work on the song?
I wonder whether Ghantasala sang any song in the dubbed version (Jagathalaprathapan) of
Jagatheka veeruni Katha. Even "O Sakhi OSakhi" was sung by TMS in Tamil. I wonder who sang "Inathe O Inathe" in Tamil.
Could you please E-mail me a list of good Pendyala songs /movies in Telugu/Tamil worth posessing. I remember sending you an E-mail with regards to some video recording of Ghantasala's stage program in US.

Re: "Ramki"s query:'yeh jeevithamae sabalamo'(by Jikki).... Isn't it from film: kaaveri?
How CRS(bburaman) fared in Telugu. It is no exaggeration that he was more famous in Telugu than in Tamil, and even the no. of films he worked for in Telugu is far higher. He was part of HMV's orchestra before making his film debut as co-componist (the other two were: Saluri Rajeswara Rao and R. chinnayya) in "chenchulakshmi" (1943). In his very first film he shows his great talent. There are numbers from it, which would make you feel that they were from 60s. His next film was bharaNi's (bhaanumati's production house): ratnamaala (1947). Incidentally Ghantasala composed a couple of tunes, for the first time, for this film. He followedup with "laila majnu" (1949, also bharaNi's) which was a MEGA musical hit. Till his death he was the resident composer for bharaNi (prEma-1952, chanDiiraaNi-1953, he did only 3-4 songs. Rest by MSV). "abhimanyu", "mOhini" (1948) were his first in Tamil. I think he has a very good number of Tamil films in '49, mostly Jupiter's productions. The most famous one was, certainly, "vezhaikkari".
From '48 onwards he was also the resident-composer for "pratibha" of G. balaramayya, with super musical hits like: baalaraaju ('48), swapnasundari ('50), Sri lakshamma katha ('50). In 1950/51 he started his own banner: "vinOda" along with the lyricist: samudraala raaghavaachaarya, director/kuchipudi dancer: vEdaantam raaghavayya
and (producer) DL naaraayaNa. They made streesaahasam ('51) Saanti ('52) and dEvadaasu ('53). 1 & 3 mega musical hits. In fact I can't recall any Tamil film of him after 1950, except
NS Krishnan's production: manamagaL (peLLikooturu in Telugu, 1951). Well, theres the bi-lingual: marumagaL (ammalakkalu) from 1953.
All in all, his success rate was stupendous! sad that we lost at a very young age of 31.
Regards,
Sreenivas
P.S. I haven't mentioned about commercially less-succesful films: dharmadEvata, roopavati and daasi.

Raja,
"Poonchittu KannagaL" is from "Thulabaram". The MD is the same, G.Devarajan. The other songs I remember are "Deva mainthan poginraan" (TMS) and "Vanamenum veethiyile" (KJY & Madhuri).

Sriram & Ramki:
I remembered after I had posted and returning from work - that it was from Thulabaram-a case of MD confusion :) Vanamenum is a good tune.
Has G Devarajan's music been analysed - as far as I remember he was a big MD in malayalam..

Sriram:
I remember someone (Shashi?) saying in one of the
threads about making tunes in Bairavi being hard
(difficult gamakas?) and appreciating Devarajan's
thiruppaar kadalil paLLi koNdaayE Bairavi
effort as excellent. Was Devarajan a classical
expert? I know very little about him. It would be
interesting to discuss his contributions.
