I also think neeyO naanO yaar nilavE is a
wonderful melody. Why don't you write a detailed
description of your feelings about it, here?
Ramki once promised to do that, but he didn't.

Reva, first of all the choice of PBS to render this song , his base voice and his intuitive approach to a soulful melody, is the winner. The feelings..well I think subtlety is the word for it...certain amount of melancholy does creep in but not disturbing enough to make you turn-off the song when you are in a happy mood because the tenderness & softness is maintained throughout the song. The tune itself has the potency in it to create the feeling of yearning for something or somebody.PBS underlines this point (IMO) when he starts of the charanam with a beautiful sangathi especially when he renders the word "Cholaiyil". This man is able to add that one extra bit to a song that retains the song in your psyche throughout the day. Another example is "Chinna Chinna kannanukku" esp. with that subtle improvisation at the end of the song (When he sings the line "Kannam minnum enthan kanna").

Reva???naan eppa sonnen??:))
Its a wonderful no doubt in that. I came to know of this song only 3-4 yrs back. Its strange that none of our indhiya vaanoli nilaiyam played this song(atleast not often). I like the lyrics, the melody and the soulful singing of all the 3 singers. The only odd factor is PBS singing for
MGR.

Some rare melodies (not broadcast often or not easily accessible) keep springing to mind time and again. I would like to use this thread to list some of them and encourage participants to contribute to the list.Additionally, share some titbits related to the song and in general write about the various facets of the song, as this would atleast, to some extent assuage the feelings of the listener who hopes to listen to these songs more often.
I will start off with a few songs..
1. Vasanatha kaalam varumo
Composed by TKR in the film 'Marakka mudiyuma', sung by PS with KJY humming in the background. Terrific number but not available even in the pre-recorded cassettes. I even rented the movie from a cassette shop in San Jose,Bay area and much to my disappointment the song was deleted from the movie.
2. Iravin madiyil ulagam urangum , sung by PBS for Veda. A very soulful number, gives the feeling of a man in a very pensive mood expressing his sentiments in a very calm setting very much similar to 'Engirunthalum Vaazhga'.
3. Kannan mana nilaye thangame thangam, sung by SJ and MD ??. A superb song.
4. Thiru Naal vanthathu , ther vanthathu sung by PS and composed by Sudarsanam. The composition has been strongly influenced by Shankar Jaikishen's "Rasik Balmaa" sung by Lata.
Contribute please....

Hello,
Anyone knows the Lyrics for the song 'enthan uyir kaathalan kannan kannan. kaanum ezhil ellam kondavan kannan kannan.' I think this song is in the movie called kalyaana oorvalam & I'm not sure about the singer.
Thanks,
