I was really impressed when Roja came out and I kept looking out for such impressive release after that. But to date, so far non of his film has any impact of Roja. There may be some good ones along the way but that I can get it from other TFM MDs. It\'s really disappointing that he has never matched any song compared to Chinna Chinna Aasai. For the last 7 years or so I keep yearning but to no avail. So many of his albums are of mediocre level. I really would like to know what caused ARR\'s downfall?
1) Trying too much in other fields and ignoring Tamil films?
2) Trying to fuse in too much western pop/rock and making listeners irritated?
3) Trying to be both Mozart and Michael Jackson of India?
4) Using so many different singers and not having any identity?
5) Again infusing too many English words to make it more hype?
6) Concentrating alot on sound quality and not giving importance to musical quality?
7) Or just limited talent?
It\'s really heart-ching to see someone I used to like go down like that.

I dont think that is true.
Spontaneous music is also good. creative music is also good. I would always like to see a sitar playing a rock song.... something ARR tries to atempt

LEt IR do his work of giving spontaneous beautiful tunes
Let ARR do his work of giving creative well-arranged tunes.
Let us accept them both or atleast be tolerant of the one we dont like.
This kind of attitude is the best towards music. Praise what you like, but dont curse what you dont like. Becos you never know. what you hate might be what someone else cherishes so much. They wont bother you if you praise what you like. But if you curse what they like (and what you hate) then thereis always a problem in this DF.

I dont accept your argument of restraining people from criticizing MD's, it is their right and their opinion, we should respect that and counter argue. But an argument is an argument dont you think,
I hate the Nasty comments and baseless facts.. as long as it is not that, it is OK
If you think it is wrong, i will stop posting again

You might be a veteran and a well known for Music.. but why bring IR here? We are not discussing about him (just a request, though i am a IR fan)..
We are not discussing the styles of music here, there is another DF -> merits and demerits..
Please let us restrain from digging into this kind of comparison in every thread.

From V,
"Basically nowadsys you find too many instruments playing in ARR's music that the simplicity or harmony is hiddden in this wrapper of ornamented experimental sshit sounds added by pravin mani and the likes. "

Here is a statement from you:
"Atleast pazhasa pathi pesarathukku IR mathiri oru isai amaipalar irunthar, ippo irukkaratha pathi pesarathukku kooda orutharayum kaanom. though isai-puyal did some dramatic changes a few years back, now after hearing to monotonous MTV, V CHANNEL music, we find it not so fresh/innovative. "
See, you can praise IR how much ever you want, but why do you have to compare and denounce ARR?? I dont even want to argue whether your point is valid or not (ofcourse I dont agree with that point you mentioned)
Only of you do this ARR fans come up with retaliatory posts that would not come otherwise.
Please do praise IR, but please avoid demeaning references to other MDs. BEcause by doing so you are obviously hurting some strongly held sentiments and stirring up an agitation.
This applies to Me, You, and all of us. "
What is this? "Pravin Mani and the likes" sounds pretty derogatory to me than something like "IR's folk music is better than ARR's" which sounds more like a calculated opinion.
We are here to discuss and negative points are bound to come up, irrespective of who the MD is. IR has done so much in TFM/TeFM that comparisons are inevitable. Why do you try to adopt different policies for different MD's?

I did not want to adopt any policy, actually it becomes an IR-ARR clash but nothing comes out.. I told i will not post here after if it affected anybody..

ARR is a gr8 musician.IR and ARR cannot be compared because their music styles are quite different. Both are amazing. But IR's music is greatly appreciated by the ppl of his time. The 90's belongs to ARR. He has achieved a lot in the music business, he doesnt have to stick with tamil film industry all the time. Its not wrong on his part to seize opportunities from other film industries. Fusion is not a bad thing...it in fact glorifies music! I luv arr's work with fusion....his music is one of a kind. If his career is such a downfall then why is he still sticking around for 8 yrs in the industry. He is the only tamil MD who has been recognized in Bollywood, now he has gone international! Obviously if he is this successful and if his music is still praised by his fans then his career is not a downfall!

Hello,
I am a Telugu man. I too grew up listening to Ilayaraja and am a great fan of IR. Even though I dont know Tamil, I have been following IR's compositions all along. Like all other great composers he has his strengths and weaknesses. Listening to his music over the years I feel that the combination of melody and Classical western music is his forte. He has also composed totally forgettable songs many times. He has been influenced by SD Burman to start with. G.K.Venkatesh, Ghantasala and Adinarayana Rao too had their influence on him. I feel that a great song should sound fresh even after decades. The orchestration should not feel like outdated. A few Hindi songs I would like to mention in this context.
1) Teri bindiya Re from Abhiman --SD Burman
2) Nam Bhool jayega from Kinara __RD Burman
3) Jab deep jale aana from Chitchor -- Ravindra Jain
The above three songs never seem out of date for me. That is the hallmark of a great song. IR certainly has composed such songs. But ordinary stuff composed by him far outnumbers the great stuff. But this is so even with the best of composers. My choice runs thus
1) Om namaha from Gitanjali (Telugu)
2) Kadal ovium from alaigal
3) Janaki kalaganaledu from Rajkumar (Telugu) --An all time classic of IR in Aarabhi.
4) Thendral Vandu theedumbodu from avatharam
5) Thendral vandu ennai thedu
6) Edo moham
7) Uravugal thodarkadai
8) Keeravani from anveshana (telugu)
9) Naan thedu sevvandi poovidu
10) rathiriyil poothirikum
There are scores of other great songs . Bye for now.
Kiran.

i dunt think ARR has fallen down...... BOYS showed that young MD"s cannot relax until ARR is alive......... he is entering oscars for the second time thru Warriors of heaven and earth....... won his 4th national award....... being the chosen one in V channel........ coming back with a fresh score in Tehzeeb........ who says ARR has fallen down?????

MADDY,
I thought only listeners could not sleep after hearing BOYS. MD's too. Just kidding.
BOYS had some peppy numbers. Only Tamil Kolai made it worse for me. But however, I felt KV was a much better album than BOYS.

Hi friends,
ARR projects that he is a choosy person, when it comes to signing on new films. But for the past two years, he is tied up with too many international projects and wants to be in TFM also at the same time. That is the reason, why he is not chhosing the right project , a thing he used to do before. If he had been more choosy, hhe would not have done a "BOYS", which though good, is still the same old stuff(nothing new or path breaking) for ARR.To see a good comeback to TFM, he has to focus on TFM alone which unfortunately is not going to happen for the time being as he has risen to a greater height and has started to reach a wider audience. If he gets a sabbatical from his international commitments, then we can see the magic of ARR back in TFM. Same holds good for IR. We should pray to Lord almighty for both these gifted music makers, that they succeed in their international music commitments(ARR for his hollywood movie and IR for his Thiruvasagam symphony), and earn far greater laurels than what they have earned so far(which they deserve each and every bit of).
If you love something, set it free. ARR and IR should be set free, given encouragement to do more quality projects. I hope this happens. Everyday I search the net, to see if anybody from India (South India in particular), has made it to the hearts and minds of a global audience. I hope that these two gifted artists give me that satisfaction one day.
Thanks friends,
Jaiganesh
