We are not ARR haters. We are ARR critics. What does he owe me? ALW is another junk show buziness man.
" One of my most shameful memories ever is falling in love with Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Cats" when I was in fourth grade. (No, really, it was kind of cool when those slinky feline creatures crawled into the audience rows.) So I can't actually make any claims about having the most exquisite taste in the world,"
- excerpts from David Skinner's article in weekly standard
"Andrew Lloyd Webber's music sucks. Let's face it, how many of his songs are just repetition and lists? Nearly all of them in JCS are that, with the exception maybe of "I Don't Know How To Love Him" (which Fish Heads can also be sung to).
"
- excerpts from Fishhead theory in yourish post
(No wonder ARR and ALW synch. Both are repetitious)

the website proves "manam oru kurangu"
In your world critcs means "kutram kadupipavar"
no one can change it. btw an arr hater?, you hate his growth more rather than arr. You hate his art! using which he overtook everyone in a short span of time. What ever "polambal" we hear here, simply Arr rules music industry and he is great to indians and now to ALW , who will make him famous all around the world.
Basically western producers measure you potentail by you music skill, album sales, popularity. Arr came out in flying colors in all aspects.
Just wait!...it is time when we see madaonna arr! combination.(I know the review for this album is already typed and kept ready by many arr haters here.)

BD is not beedi. I enjoy beedi, but BD? sorry man, it is not like beedi. there is no smoke, no flavor, no satisfaction. but, definitely BD is burnout case. I used to wonder about Rahman's talents, it was indeed amazing similar to the many video games that come out from nintendo, game boy and lately x-baax. but no lasting effect.
Then I ask, why was Rahman only good for a few moivees a year? because, he is severly limited. the ultimate test of his capacity and versatility was BD in London. He took 2 years to rehash not only his old stuff but couple of major western hits. i am not saying without knowing. karan thapar was very right. Rahman understaning of various audiences is also moot. he is young, so he must produce rhythms and nursery rhymes (rhythm and rhyme, what a great match) kindergarten, school kids, college youth and senile grandparents, but he cannot satisfy the mature and learned music lover. all those who fight here like that imbecile are yaar are in their early to mid twenties. don't tell me that are yaar is over 2+5 years. that crap of a guy.
mature listeners, people in the age range of 30 to 50 appreciate rahman but do not fancy his music. audiences abroad like the Indian sounds in his songs, it is exotic and powerful but that is because of internet and star tv.
utlimately, bd if it lasts 4 to 6 months, rahman can save his face. i think shankar ganesh would've done a better job, sicne they have composed some extraordinary musical numbers like nadiganin kadhali, vadivelan manasu vachchan, particularly the last one would've scored well with TMS voice when the Queen visited Murugan Temple before BD was launched. Vadivalen manaus vachchan chaiya chaiya, malara vachchan shakalaka shakalaka, manakkathu roja chedi ooh la lala lala, maanthoppu jodi kkilli shakalaka chaiyaa laa laa laa.... yeppadi saar...
my suggestion, smoke a few beedis and then let us talk, because as i write i am having a beedi banned in chicaago, but that doesn't staap me. if BD is banned here, I will go for beedis.

Exactly!! He is good for composing nursery rhymes and ad songs. Nothing more! Only a freaked out tasteless human being will appreciate this junk album named Bombay Dreams. He has never overtaken anybody. Movies have become like Advertisments nowadays. So his songs suit better. ARR 'aracha mavaiye arachufying'. If Oo lalala, Shakalaka baby, Rangeela, Chayya Chayya.. are the song which are his best songs, then that explains his quality. You can listen to thousands of beat songs on MTV and VH1 channel. Why should we listen to his music. In One song (SundariO from Kannathil Muthamittal, ARR has blatantly copied the tunes of French movie 'Amelie'. Gosh doesn't he have his own brain? He copies own songs thrice atleast. Then he copies european composers. Then he copies some from pop songs. He is a good sound engineer. Nothing more. He can mix and match.
He has never dominated Tamil field, as some people claim.

ARR has fooled himself and time brings down all fools. i mean i used to be a fool. time, my dear friends. the things that time does to you... and what time will do all those rahman fans... only time can tell, my friends....
that will bring me to another topic a wonderful thread which will monk itself tonite hopefully... it is a revelation of who we are, how we are what we are

Some people are getting desperate. I would rather listen to 'I love you you love me' barney song.
what is his next composition of ARR?
Baa Baa blacksheep chikku chikku chikku
Have you any wool chakku chakku chakku
yes sir yes sir chikku chikku chikku
three bags fullllllllllllll vandhe madarammmm
He has murdered this wonderful tune of vandhe madharam which i used to listen on Akashwani Radio. Then he murdered Alaiy Payuthe tune.
His improvisation sucks. Did you guys listen to those crappy lyrics and the voice of those crappy singers? I am very very glad he released this album. This will once and for all prove the whole world that he is a trial and error musician. One of my music friend told once "When you listen to a song it should be like 'love at first sight'. It should not be good to ears after listening to it over and over again" For instance I listened to this song "Hero" by Enrique Iglesias. I instantly liked it. Our ARR hopes when people keeps on listening they will eventually like it.
ARR you are sadly mistaken. So many people will hate the entire Indian music. Don't bring disrepute to Musicians like Pandit Ravishankar. Don't spoil India's image with your stinking MTV tunes. Don't call it a fusion. No talent a*s clown ARR is a disgrace to Tamil music field. It is better he settles down in Bombay and scores only Hindi music.

>>>. I would rather listen to 'I love you you love me' barney song.

If you had liked barney song that much you wouldn't have cared of ARR. Now you mind has accepted ARR BD as great but your heart finds it difficult to accept it. because, it desperately wanted BD to fail. Now that did not happen, you have a fight between heart and mind.
He has symply touched your heart , which your introvert heart is refusing to acknowledge. This is with every one who shout at ARR. Soem heart mind problem. Do you do that with any other MD. No..because they don't have such a telling effect.
I found out why people dy more of heart attack and less of brain fever. Its the problem with heat brain conflict. Brain always thinks right...survives..heart has more attachment to some thing which is even failing for many years..finally heart is attacked and human dies. Intelligent people maintain heart - brain harmony.
Your case is very dangerous JJ. Check up with heart specialist.

It has been ages since i saw recent tamil movies. May be it is a coincidence. Well now we got Sigumund Freud here who anaylzes heart attacks and brain fever psychologically rather pathetically.

Finally got to hear the BD songs. Here is my sincere review.
As most of you already know some of the songs have been rehased from ARR's earlier songs. However there are a good number of new tunes as well. Even in the rehased ones care has been taken to modify the rhythm keeping in view that this is a musical.
There is a haunting melody which I guess is sort of the theme music. This is one of the best tunes in the album and makes you want to hear it over and over again. This I later discovered is the tune of the song "only love". Then there is "Don't release me" and "Everything is possible in BD". Both are catchy numbers. Then there is 4 smaller pieces, 3 of which are slower paced ("How many times" and "journey home"), and the fast paced dandya type music. There is a qawwali song which flows in the usual way and so nothing to write about there.
The song "famous" starts out similar to "Sona nahi na sahi" but the middle portions are a lot different. The rehash of "rangeela re" starts out very similar to the song "There's a little brown?? spot in the sun today" from police. Nahi Samne and Ishq bina have also been used. Nahi Samne's main melody is played using some string instrument (sitar??) and so is more mellifluous than the original version. Shakalaka baby sounds really good in english and plays out like a pop number. Chaiyya Chaiyya plays out word for word from the original song and thus was a big disappointment...particularly since I did not like the original number as well.
The lyrics stand out as a sore thumb and do not gel on many occasion with the music. Also the lyricists has taken upon himself to impress upon the audience that this is a musical about bombay dreams, so the phrase is lavishly used in most of the songs. Also the lyrics are replete with cliches and oozes of indianess (in a bad way). If care had been taken to pen some creative and imaginative lines to go in tune with the tune then it would have been much more of a pleasurable listening experience.
All in all the music has the stamp of ARR's talent and would be loved by the west. As for the us who have already listened to some of the tunes, we would liked ARR to come up with more new tunes.
