Dear Bala :
Was "Vande Mataram" even noticed in America???? I mean among the so called "North-American"/ "White/Black/Hispanic....." people ??? :-)))
If ARR is an international success as u claim, then why didn't Vande Matharam (which is in a very POppish idiom), that has the "Indian-ness" as well as the "enuff stuff" climb to Top of charts in the US????
Just curious, that's all

Curious :
I will tell you why it did not climb to the of US charts. Because America is a place where, trash like PRODIGY, NINE INCH NAILS, and OASIS climbs to the top. No wonder, VM didn't reach the charts.
Just explaining, that's all

Dear Curious Too,
That's exactly my point! ARR fans don't have any basis to claim that ARR's music has international appeal, simply becos' there is no fact to support it.
If ARR is simply not internationally successful, how can that be made a criteria for disparaging IR???
"Prodigy", "9 inch nails" etc may be trash to you, but it is certainly not for the people who are listening to it. Branding sthing as trash is quite subjective!!!
Just clarifying, that's all!

iam shocked to see that this argument continues.personally, i have played songs os both ARR and IR when my american friends were around.they did like 'pudhu vellai mazhai' very much but were swept off their feet when they listened to 'andhi mazhai pozhigiradhu..'i was really surprised when they were able to appreciate the regular shifts in style.i explained to them that was hindustani that cropped up so beautifully inbetween those enticing violins.in fact this reminded me of director vasanth's interview where he had mentioned abt this song and remarked that "..ovvoru violin izhailum kadhal vazhiyum..."just felt like writing this on my first visit to the site.excuse if i have not played to the rules.

DSKR songs sound like copies of ARRs own songs from Bombay, Thiruda Thiruda... etc., and even ARR must be aware that 'kuchi kuchi rakkamma' (hindi version, of course!) is a known song in HFM too.. is he running out of what ever 'stuff' he had?
Any comments?

I'm sure none of the DSKR songs can be compared to KM.

I see that the entire discussion has digressed from the topic and landed on criticisms on both IR and ARR.So no harm done if i post my views.
let us first accept the fact the IR and ARR are both talented though altogether in diff ways.
IR is a creative genius,a musical delight, with a strong inclination to provide music with regional background. He came at a time when V&R were on the music scene and took over from them with his musical charisma. So it becomes clear that if IR has to be relegated then someone who can provide music of a diff genre with novel techniques is needed.ARR was smart enough to understand this and worked towards it.Wether we agree or not the fact remains that he has succeded to some extent. Some of his songs like chinna chinna asai, ennavale, enmale vizhunda,....are just too good.So it would be wrong on our part to totally downplay him since he too has talent and it has to be appreciated.IR is a boon to TFM.His songs like Panni vizhum malai vannam, anthi mazhai, ithu ooru pon malai, indraiku een intha, valai osai....have enslaved me and will always be my favourites .I personally feel that it would be wrong to compare these 2 ppl who have made tfm famous.Instead let us feel proud about the fact that all of indian music is churned from the talents of these two people.

I just discovered that Doli Sajake Rakhna's song Tarampar tarampap of ARR is lifted from two sources. In my opinion ARR's version is the best beatsy melody of the century. But, I want to find out from you guys if you agree with the discovery.
I will give you a clue: it is an old melody sung by T L Maharajan in the 50's.
The chorus part is a waltz or tango.
Any participation.

Baloo:
I think you are
feeding readers with
stuffs made up(...)
I aint a ARR fan nor a IR fan
when my freinds (all nationals, arabs australians, and americans...)
listen to IR songs they just say that this is very indian not general
i have a big collection of IR 's golden era songs
I ve played the best of them to friends and even lent it them(some of his different type of songs)
They never gave me such comment as ur freinds?
maybe taste varies fine
but for all my friends?
I have played ARR songs no big praise
but they say atleast this is somewhat better
some like some songs
for example an arab liked tu hi tu from dil se..
there are other examples
one albumb from ir which some listened was anjali majority found it different compared to his others.
p.s.:
please dont take this personal i was just trying to say my point of view

The Fan,
T L Maharajan in 50's ? I guess you are talking about T R Mahalingam.

dear guys,
In DSKR, the song Bole Sajni, is nothing but a copy from the song "Chembaruthi Poovu" from the film Chembaruthi. Any comments?

In DSKR even the tarum pum song sounds like
inspiration from senthamizh thenmozhiyal

Thanks guys, you are right the song is totally a modern version of T L Mahalingam's Senthamizh Thenmozhiyal....
Thanks everyone. I only wanted to confirm my findings.
Talking of chembaruthi, so now IR is also copying ARR?

Hello The Fan,
Chembaruthi is an old film, (I think it is actress Roja's debut movie) and definitely not derived from a 1998 release of ARR's Hindi Soundtrack.
Apropos Vimal's comment, I agree, the first line follows Chembaruthi poovu's pattern, but the resemblance ends there. It is an altogether different song. In fact, it has some very good shades of Inji Iduppazhaga in the stanzas and also in the interludes. However, this one is definitely NOT a copy. A sincere attempt by Rahman I would say.

Only two songs in DSKR are good. The ones we discuss in detail. The rest are quite ordinary. Moreover, I want to know about the Deivam who says that Raja has coppied the "Chembaruthi" song from ARR's "Bole Sajni".

Think first guys....!
There is no way IR copy ar music.AR is copy IR.This one is correct.AR is a rubbish. Can't create his own tunes.Always copy music from western countries. He can't challenge raja because raja is best ever was and best ever will be.

all i like to do is to listen to music. it doesnt matter who scores or where it is copied from or why it is there in the movie. my motive is to relax. and music gives me this relaxation.
i like 'vaa munimaa vaa' as good as 'valai osai' as good as 'maanookku manthaiyile'. the same with 'akila akila', may be it is copied from 'Buffalo Soldier' who cares ?
"i listen to it because i like it"
i think thats the ultimate motive of all the MDs in the world is that - to make listener's happy.
so coming to the topic - it doesnt matter who scores music for KM or its remake in hindi. i just listen to any song which i like. it might be composed by IR, ARR, Deva, Sirpi, Vidyasagar doesnt bother me at all.
i am disgusted by the way people go by personalities (i did that too!!)
