Pronounciation PROBABLY...put him out of circulation..Why Your own Vijay prefers HH ..instead of SPB...For that matter all Telugu heroes prefer UDIT over SPB and now practically Udit is in Hyderabad recording a song a day....
So do not blame north Indian audiences
Somebody says here Shahrukh and Ameer have female voice.....Boyish voice is just romantic and that is never effiminate.....Do not make silly comments....

Come on, in general, South Indian hero's prefer North Indian heroines. Their beauty balances our heros' not so fortunate faces. This is something like that. Anything imported is better than our own. How many hero's wear 'vesti' or 'saram' even in scenes involved inside their home. It's designer shorts that they prefer:-)) Only Malayalees have genuine pride in their culture, again, generally speaking. Beyond that, their has always been a IC with our people. As for Udit, he kills telugu and it is quite funny to see his voice on the likes of Venkatesh and Nagarjuna....but hey...we take it all, right?
As far as SPB, well ... I think he didn't get the right chances. But...

Raghuvaran,
>>1) If M.rafi was so great how come he never sang any Tamil songs?
He has sung tamil songs and a friend of mine pointed out to me that he has a tape of Rafi singing in tamil.
>>If Amitabh batchan is All india Super, how come he never acted in Tamil Movies
He was already acting to a wider audience and was already at the top so why would he want to move to a different regional industry.
>>Sivaji Ganeshan is way better actor than Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, how many northies are aware of this greatest actor?
Dilip Kumar is a very good actor and so is Raj Kapoor. The reason why many people do not know about Sivaji is because his movies didn't reach a wider medium. His movies were only huge in tamil and in a secular state/region. If he had acted in Hindi movies, everyone would have known him. By the way, many Bollywood stars know Sivaji and appreciate him as an actor.
>>SPB & KJY are only singers in India to have won 7 national awards, south had many other greats like Ghantasala, how many northies have even heard of these legends?
Do awards make a singer the best ??. Take for example Madan Mohan, he won no filmfare award but doe sthat make him less talented than LP or SJ who won 7 and 9 respectively ??.
>>SPB & KJY are only singers in India to date to sing more than 40,000 songs, do you think singing that amount of songs is a joke???
Lata has also sung more than 40,000 songs if that didn't cross your mind yet. And it doesn't matter how many songs a singer has sung. If SPB has sung more songs than Rafi it doesn't mean he is greater than Rafi. You have to take quality of the songs sung. Rafi's songs are all quality and he was in the golden age of singing where all songs were quality. His talent also made each song he sung full of quality. SPB has also sung many quality songs but these days when quality has diminished and he is still singing today's songs, you can't say he is the best and compare his today's songs with that of the 70's or 80's. Understand !!!
And how do actor's like Sharukh, Hritik and Aamir have feminin voices. If Sharukh was so feminine how come he is playing the lead role of Asoka. Will you tell me why Santosh Sivan chose him over many other actors. By the way Ajith is in the moviw as well and Sivan could have easily chose him as the lead. Will you now say that Santosh Sivan is also feminine ???. Gimme a Break man !!!.
fan,
>>>north indian film wallahs never gave recognition to quality. only sanjeev kumar , a really great actor was given due respect. very very ordinary acotrs like rishi, shashi, shammi were given extrodinary importance and this may include dilip kumar(although he was good in certain movies) Kamalahassn a truly great actor in the 80's and early 90's was not given importance and was dumped. So north indians filmmakers have thier own vision on film making where quality was at a discount.
What do you exactly mean by this. Dilip Kumar is not an ordinary actor. He is by far way better than Kamal Haasan when it comes to acting. Kamal was dumped because he could not succed in making movies to a wide audience. Only now he is doing ok with Abhay and other movies. Shammi was also not ordinary. He was different in the way he brought the Yahoo craze into India and was very talented. North Indian wallah gave importance alot to quality. Satyajit Ray is the only director in India to have won an academy award and many great movies and actors have come out of the North who are more talented than the South. Watch your words !!

SPB sang 40000 songs, which is way high than any HFM singer. He had a better scope and not to mention better MDs in 80s and 90s in south. He has already overachived. And he dont care if dumbheads in HFM want him or not (why any he wants to get killed like gulshan or conspired like vanijayram or get threated by underworld?).

if satyajit ray is great? why he never became famous in hindi? You know why? He dont CARE!. So does SPB.

few tips for you.
(1) anything south is Madrasi
(2) anything not south is northie
(3) Annamalai unviersity awards padmashree
(4) U are not knowledgeable.
(5) I learnt carnatic for 2 days. So I have more knowledge. Third day she was no more(postmortem report said she had severe acoustic attacks over a period of 2 days)
(6) It is difficult to be bassier than SPB. (Oh god..pps..I am stopping..I can't disrespect a great artist/human being for the sake of deriding a fool)

KJY winned 7 nasional avards and SPB has winned 6 nasional avards. But SPB also winned Padmashree 2001 from Ammamalai Luniversity. So they both winned 7 nassional avards.

Hello mister, VJ lost due to her PATHETIC accent,ok. And as far as bringing politics, we had saints like MGR and Jayalalitha in Tamil film industry.
Talking of the number of songs to judge the quality of a singer is a pitiable defence of the singer. BTW if u go through 3 different articles on SPB, u will get diff. figures of the no. of songs sung, fine!! And the figures go from 30000 to 50000. BTW there is an article somewhere saying PS has sung 50000 songs and another saying its 35000. These numbers neither seem to be correct nor are they an appropriate criterion to judge a singer. Nevertheless PS and SPB were legends - so was Rafi and very much in the same league. U people have not heard his classical numbers so he has been bashed up in several threads. U may continue the same - as in any case it cannot wash away Rafi's talents.

Dilip Kumar is not a fraction of Sivaji Ganesan. But he(DK) is on par with Kamal Hassan.
- From: Madhan (@ 202.41.117.3)
on: Fri Nov 2 23:56:36 EST 2001
Good Joke - Dilip Kumar a better actor than Kamal Hassan - Saw a film KARMA recently - supposedly a remake of some Sivaji Ganesan film - there is a scene where DK talks to his wife (played by Nutan, a great natural talent) over the phone after a long time -similar to Sivaji's THIRISOOLAM or THANGAPADAKKAM - while Nutan emotes beautifully, DK struggles to bring anyt emotion on his face - he in fact just stammers - give me a break and do not compare Kamal Hassan with any of these
self-proclaimed geniuses - it hardly matters if SPB never got recognition in Bollywood - BOllywood anyway had enough time to recognise genuises like Kumar Sanu, who sings like a canary and Anuradah Paudwal who sings better than a nightingale! so why should they recognise an inferior SPB ? can SPB sing through his nose? can SPB sing devoid of emotions and make songs sound bland? he cannot do any of the above - therefore, in the present day HFM, SPB has no place - maybe if SPB was alive during Madan Mohan's times,
he would have sung more melodies in HINDI -
Satyajit Ray knocked the doors of more than 20 producers to make a film for a script he had written - he was totally rejected - a disappointed SRay went back to Calcutta and made the film, on a shoestring budget - name of the film "Pather Panchali" and it went on to become one of the top ten celebrated movies of world cinema!
To hell with Bollywood - guys who do not know what is aesthetics do not need genuises like Kamal Hassan, SPB, IR etc

Hello folks
I was interested by these topics about SPB, but I was rather disturbed by some people called raguvaran (@212), Raguvaran (@64), Isai Priyan (@ 157.95.211.50).
Raguvaran (@64), Isai Priyan (@ 157.95.211.50) are I believe the same person who are posting under different names & IP addresses, why?
Who is SPB?
S.P.Balasubrahmanyam: the name evokes images of the voice beyond compare litting & melodious with a stylistic variation that conjure a visual image from pure sound.
Born in 1946 at konetampet in Andhra pradesh , SPB grew up in a modest environment, SPB liked to sing in social events , but did not under go any kind of musical training, at a light music competition in 1963, SPB’s voice charmed the ears of late Shri Kothandapani who introduced him to the film world as the play back singer in the telugu film “SRI SRI MARIYADA RAMANA”, in 1966, ever since he has never looked back & today he is one of the very rare multilingual singer who has sung in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Tulu, Oriya, Bengali,, till date he has sung well over 40,000 songs in 35 years, that works out to be at least 3 songs per day!, he has also composed music for 35 films in a variety of languages.
Here is a list of SPB’s National awards compared to M.rafi’s awards, please note that M.rafi has never won a national award, Dr.KJY has won 7 national awards till date, who has also crossed 40,000 songs, in his 40 year service.
SPB’s non-national awards are innumberable , that is “best play back singer”, association’s awards, state awards, fan club awards, film fare awards, hence I can only list his national awards.
SPB’s National Awards:
1979 - Sankarabharanam
1981 - Ek Duje Keliye
1983 - Sagara Sangamam
1988 - Rudra Veena
1995 - Gaana Yogi Panchashari Gavai
1996 - Minsara Kanavu
2001 - Padma Shri Award
M.Rafi’s awards (note he has no national awards to date)
Year track
1960 Chaudhvin Ka Chand
1961 Chashme Badoor
1964 Chahunga Mein Tujeh
1966 Baharon Bharasavo
1968 Dil Ke Jharoke Mein
1977 Kya Huva Tera Waada
Most of these people seems to misunderstand the term bass & kattais, here is an explanation;
Bass; deep sounding, the lowest pitch in music, lowest male voice.
Kattais ; as there are 1-37 keys in vocal, with keys
1-5 being mudhal kattai (lowest one)
6-10 being rendam kattai
11- 15 being moondram kattai
16-20 being naalank kattai
21- 25 being aiyntham kattai
26-30 being arank kattai
31-35 being elank kattai
36 + being ettank kattai (highest one)
Most of the songs are sung between keys 16 –30, which includes (4th, 5th & 6th kattai), every male singer has bass, even singers like Hariharn, Unni Krishnan have bass, this bass can be achieved at singing in lowest notes (keys 1 – 4) not many singers have done this, certainly not the new good for nothing singers.
SPB, KJY, Ghantasala, Balamurali Krishna & M. Rafi are the only singers who have touched key 1, in order to access the bass of these singers, one must clarify as to which one of these singers has the deepest voice at key 1, this voice should also have the punch in it, this is where SPB stands out of the rest.
M.rafi, Ghantasala, BMK have soft voice, hence they do not sound as deep as SPB. KJY being a carnatic boffin, does not also sound deep as SPB between keys 1-5, this bass has to come deep from the throat, this is very rare & difficult to do so, only SPB is capable of this to date, best bass means a singer can sing very effectively at the highest pitch (key 36+) without screaming or sounding feminine, many male singers who lack bass sounds very feminine at high pitches, typical examples are T.R.Mahalingham, Unni Krishnan, Hariharan , Udit narayan , Sonu nigam , Kumar Sanu, Punkaj udas, …etc.
As SPB having the best bass he easily reaches key 36+, without sounding feminine or as if he is screaming or straining his voice, M.rafi although lacks the bass of SPB was extremely good at higher pitches, which is very difficult to do without a very deep bass, but some how M.rafi superb at highest pitches, simply Superb!.
Typical example of SPB’s key 1 songs are, “thuli thuli nee paadamma sithiyamma”, when he sings “aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh” from key 1, then key6, then key11, then key 16, then key 21, then key 26, then key 31, then key 36+, this is simply superb!.
Another example is the song “sa re ga re gapa tha pa”, from the ever green shankaraparanam, he starts again from key 1, with a very deep voice all the way to key 36+, without any strain at all. Now think about the reverse process of singing in key36+ down to key 1, and SPB does this superb again in the song “ka ma re gama gasa maga sa re saa netha ma pa, sa re sa re (vedham athanilum oru nataham) from “salanghai Oli”.
Now consider singing the entire song in highest notes, that is key 30+,SPB again does this beautifully in “naanum unthan uravai naadi vantha paravai”, from mythili ennai kadhali.
Some people says that TMS was very good at high pitches, I do not agree at all, because he always strained his voice to the maximum limit, any songs sung by TMS always sounded as if he is singing in high pitches, take the song “paatum naane paavamum naanee” from thiruvizhaiyadhal , he sounded as if he was singing from high pitch from the beginning, which is wrong, he sounds the same at high & low pitches, hence you can distinguish whether he is singing in high pitch or not, his carnatic singing & pronunciation is terrible. Although TMS was good at modulation & expressing feelings, but he does not have an amazing voice of SPB.
SPB being a “frog in a well” when it comes to carnatic, is awesome in terms of pronunciation of swarams & singing, even Bala Murali swallows some swarams when he sings it, when you listen to SPB’s shankaraparanam you can clearly understand all swarams, as they are all crystal clear.
KJY , like some one mention is bhajan singer, an excellent carnatic singer, but in cine world, he is so boring, always the same style, you can not tell whether he is singing sad or happy, or joy or excitement. He was hopeless at modulation, expressing emotions. Jayachandran was better than him in romantic songs, but SPB ruled over everyone in Romantic songs, superb expression, beautiful voice.
SPB is not just the greatest singer, but he is an excellent dub artisists, he mainly dubbed for Kamal, Mohan, N.ravi, Nagesh, ..etc. He has also scored music for
About 35 films so far, with a mesmorizing songs from Sikaram.
I hope I did not offend any body, this thread is being misused badly, so many swearing especially from this raguvaran @212., please guys, I beg you to stop this nonsense & behave bit maturely .

Awards do not mean anything. Sivaji did not get a national award. Does it make him any worse than DK - who for the most part gives a very good impersonation of a constipated owl?
And to say that Dk is better than Kamal!! The very idea!! Now I believe that fact is stranger than fiction. Fiction, after all, has to make sense.
North Indian wallah give lof of importance to quality. Yeah? The likes of Annu Malik? Good luck to you, pals, and please keep them there. We have a few "quality" composers like Deva and SAR and we will whole-heartedly send them northwards so that you guys can add to your quality pool.
