This thread is to bring to people's notice good non-IR songs that came out in the "golden period" of IR, when his brilliance pretty much overshadowed everything else. (Ramki ippa thiruppthiyA? :-)

nanda nee en nila - gawd knows which movie, music is by dakshinamoorthy
annan oru koil enraal - SPB's gem
kanni raasi en raasi - this is a fabulous KJY number. just check out the part where he sings "samarasamaaaaaa"
this one is really rare, coz i have heard it only once on AIR and never again in life. it goes

thoduvathenna thenralo malargalo - g k venkatesh composition with SPB's melliya kural
yaarathu sollamal nenjallippovathu - vani jayaram sings this one from, i think, nenjamellam neeye
ore jeevan onre ullam - neeya. this song is a note-for-note lift of a hindi number, but sounds damn good in tamil too.

hey, just remembered two more that i SHOULD mention.
thenralil aadum koonthalil kandaen - madurai meetiya sundara pandian
mazhaiye mazhaiye ilamai muzhuthum - this is one of the best rain songs i have ever heard. also S-G's best, with VM's gorgeous lyrics.

i do not know if this song has already been mentioned but even if it has, i don't mind mentioning it again. the song is 'muthu muthu therottam' by vani jayaram from the film aaniver.
beautiful melody!! i hope SG have not flicked it from another ghazal.

truly great song that can make u emotional. i was lucky to have that song recorded this time.
almost on par with megame megame from the same singer.
SG have used vani very well.

Ilaiyaraja made his entry with Annakkili in May 1976. So, songs between 1976-92 or 93 can only qualify in this thread!

-Muktha films (Avan Aval Athu/ Kheezh Vanam/Pollathavan??)
-RC Sakthi films ( Kootu puzhukkal/Sirai/ Varam)
- Sivaji films (many)
- Saj productions ( Nilave Malare/ Kanne Kaniyamuthe/ Vasantha Ragam)
