Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.

P, I am not as forunate as you being "semman puzhuthiyil purandavar" in a village. But i also belong to a small sleepy town, which was sorrounded by villages and i often remember seeing the therukkuthu in my town temple festivals. Any way your post was excellent.

A pedagogical digression: I thought the word "kabOthi" was a classic chennai creation, didn't expect that in a rural therukoothu song.
- From: Raj (@ 206.97.63.26)
on: Mon Dec 15 17:45:36 EST 2003
udhaya: kabothi actually means 'blind' or 'ignorant' person and has been in use in Tamil as long as I have know. It is not a Madras slang.
You might have hears begars using it as kannillatha kabothi'!

Raj,
Thanks for the knowledge. Strangely I've never encountered it in all the time I spent in the rural areas.
Kupps,
kabOthi is like a misdemeanor-level word, whereas the ones I received were much juicier felony-level terms. Of course, vaanguvathin sugam kuduppathil minjividum.

Kalainjar used the word 'kabothi' in his latest kavithai about Jayamohan ;-)
Does that make it an 'ilakkiya' word ? hahaha :-D

NagaS: kapothi also means pigeon. It has been used in poems with that meaning. It is not a newly coined word. I don't know in what sense kalaignar used it.

Onna Vida- a laid back, breezy naatupura paadal , quite different from Illayaraaja's usual folk fare. Rasika's write up was a nice walk through the song. As most of you had felt , the second interlude has an interesting twist with the flute/violin entwinement . The charanams have a tinge of sadness probably foreboding a separation and as in most of Illayaraaja's songs build up the tempo, theme of the song.

Song of the Day: Break The Rules! from Boys.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/breaktherules.rm
Rule # 1 : Australia is supposed to beat India 4-0.
Rule # 2 : Beating Aus in their own backyard? Not possible.
Rule # 3 : India fails if Tendulkar fails.
Rule # 4 : Indian attack is incapable of taking 20 wickets.
Rule # 5 : Indians are chokers and would goof up even simple prospects of victory.
What finally happened? Break the rules! Break the rules!
MaarO maarO chouka chakka sow maarO
Hit four, six and a hundred!!
Let's celebrate!
- Blatant plug: I've been writing match reports and analysis on each day's play of this series. Those who are interested can check out my blog: http://www.tamillinux.org/balaji/blog/ .

Something tells me that after the third test we will be having "ponaal pogattum poda" as the SOTD (although I hope we end up having "Secret of Success") :-)
bb, where do you get the past stats from? Very informative writeups. Better than what I read from those jokers Faishal Shariff and Prem Panicker in rediff who keep whining about the selectors all the time.

I read your notes / reports also - just curious, what made you predict htat sachin will fail in this series ? ;-)

Its pretty strange. When sachin has a lean patch, all start cribbing. So what if he had failed in this test match. People very soon forget the past happily. I am sure, if dravid doesnt perform in the ine day matches, people will be after his blood. I am sure your prediction of sachin failing in this series will be a wrong one, provided the umpires do not have any other plan.
Sachin is unlucky in many ways. If you remember one incident, when india was chasing some 200 odd runs for victory against pakistan in chennai, we required 12 runs to win. Sachin got out at that jucnture, because of his back pain. And all tail enders got out..
Same way, do you think India would have reached the world cup finals if sachin hadnt blasted the way he did?
There is a main complaint that sachin doesnt perform when the team needs him. that is rubbish. Because, when sachin performs, no one realises what pressure is. But if he gets out, everyone panicks.
Thanks to dravid and laxman, now sachin can freely play his shots..
Just like that dont blame sachin. No right to talk about him.

And I am surprised, why no one says anything about sehwag. What the hell is that guy doing in indian team. Both in one day and test matches. he performs once in 20 matches. And we have people like badani sitting in, just because this guy has support of captain.
And why no one talks about kumble still being in the side and murali kartik staying out!

There is a funny song in 'I Love you-da' ... 'adichchaa sixer(u)'nnu aarambikkum ... typical 'heroism' song !
