  Here I have mentioned 3 differnt criteria in giving ranks to mds.
  first pls read them care fully
  IR is always first, coz of his gems.
  Still HE can create waves in TFM .
  BUt now he is not in much demand,this doesn;t mean that he isnot no.1
  I said, whatever the situation be, always Ir will be the nO. 1

  I think the originator's list is fine(music fan's list) as long as it is based on popularity and not QUALITY. If it is quality ,the ordering is not ok by me. BTW, music fan can include Bharadwaj whose popularity matches that of VS.

  Please obliterate IR from the list. What was his last good song? No one remembers.
  The latest strategy of the IR-promotions gang is to compel people to listen to this song and that song. Songs which come an go without any signs. I remember the last time the gang created a big hype for Ivan and you know what happened in the end!
  
  Ilayaraja composed in the last century and therefore does not count.

  I must admit one thing here. I saw Ivan. Though there is nothing great in songs barring one (don't tell me SR's songs were great creations...IR has done more such carnatic songs with innovation). But BGM of trhe film was really lifting. I really enjoyed the film ands its message (though..bit izhuvai). Same goes with Ramana. In the most part BGM was okay, but some scenes it swallowed the dialogs. The scene where vijayan shouts that VK is already dead, I replyed that scene 3 to 4 times just to here what he is saying....that..."VK died long before" or "vk died 10 years before". The music in the name of BGM prevailed over the dialog. But the scenes nearing the climax, the BGM was really good.
  
  I still have the same doubt as OISG. Do a film really need WCM as BGM. Is that the only way?

  PPl with minimal knowledge of music discussing about the depth of music is pathetic!some time back Michael jackson was commercially a major hit! where is he know? Mozart, Beethoven ,Bach, are still adored by Music geniuses across the globe with out any publicity! Ilaiyaraaja's depth of music is understood by exponents like Zubin mehta, paul mauriat, Johnscott, Jameshorner etc,,.etc,,,. so why waste arguing, discussing and unneccessarily creating an animositic scene in the forums with Musically ignorant folks! let every one enjoy their favourite composers music until they are enlightened with essence of true music!

  Your posting semms out of place here. This is a website that is open to common man who enjoys everyone in TFM. If you expect, ppl who are well-trained musicians and people who had done a course in Trinity School of Music to come and post their thoughts, you are mistaken. and btw, who are you ? I am sure you do call yourself as someone who has got in-depth knowledge in music !! I agree that Mozart, Beethoven, Bach 's music still live beyond centuries of years and they are great. But you dont need to ridicule MJ to glorify them. Infact, you have chosen the wrong example !! I dare you to take a random survey among common men all across the world about the music they like. Tell them about the Great trinity of western classical and tell them about MJ also. I bet MJ would come out more popular than them. By this, I am not concluding that the Trinity were inferior to MJ. But in what way MJ was wrong ? If you can produce some great music, come up with an album that could sell like Thriller !!!
  People who listen to MJ's music have minimal knowledge of music whereas people who listen to the classical Trinity's music are pundits ?????? No way. To me, people who listen to bothj kinds and appreciate the good things are more knowledgable. Composing something that you feel great isn't enough !!! Presenting that in a way that every common man can listen to it and make him feel happy is the toughest part !!!
  
  IR is great !!! But you dont need some Zubin Mehta, Paul Mauriat, James Horner (how many of you guys have heard about these guys? hehehe) to certify IR. And to you, if those guys certify someone, he becomes great ??? The common man is not going to see who says who is great ...he listens to the music that he understands and enjoys that.
  
  Music is just not composed for a finite set of people in this world who has studied the classical form of it, who can write musical swarasa, notes, identify ragas...!!!! It is composed for each and every soul in this world to enjoy it !!!
  
  You can still go ahead and call your group as the knowledgable group and others as musically ignorant but dont forget, that the other group (majority of the world) is going to call you guys the same.
  
  And btw, what is true music ??????? Looking at your post, it sounds like that majority of the people here doesnt know about it. Why dont you explain you definition of "true music" ?

  I have always stayed away from comparisons. Mostly.
  Even when I attack IR thread I attack the people there not IR. I simple don't have any intention to talk about him in bad way. Okay, regarding my list of top five. You know who will be the first in my list. Will you agree that..So why quarrel over some thing which you know that definitely is the best. So I don't want to quarrel.
  
  I mentioned about Ivan and Ramana here because, I wanted to mention it some where. I saw those movies and liked it. I am not like those in other camp who like their rivals numbers but still do not put it in words here. I did not comment about these films earlier because I did not see them at that time. Ofcourse, I heard Ramama when it was released and I said that it was a crap album barring one decent song. That's all. When I feel that its BGM was good, I don't feel any shame to admit that. I have not come down from my principled stand and internally and actually I treat both IR and ARR with respect and I have more liking towards ARR. I admit this also.
  
  So what's the probs?
  A man composing music for films like KM and TLOBS and giving a biggest hit of 2002 in Saathiya...and making the west go gaga over his maiden musical ...does he still needs a tained podium to stand? Sorry man...I wish IR is also not dragged into such comparisons...but vambu yaarai vittadhu.

  Though its irrevalant i would like to say IMHO KM's BGM is outstandingly melodious. Specially the climax flute piece. KM might not have bagged a lot of money unlike his other movies but its a true masterpiece.
  
  I dunno of tfm 'market' if Anpe Sivam failed which wouldnt?
