i think "copying" is there for a long time in tamil film history. Here we discuss the tamil songs copied from others.

Actually..I was surprised to hear lots of music on National Geographic which sounded like ARR kind of music. I guess it must be the synthesizer..TV is where all these synths are in abundant use, I guess.

Karthik. please stop using the word "fart". i think u can make a point - even without using that word as well.

Karthik S,
Good work! or NaNbaN. a lot of the are fart although..... my opinion on some of these r...
1. "Chinna Chinna Aasai" -
is a reggae based song (but i dunno abt the nursery rhyme) but that doesnt make it copied.
2. "Rukumani Rukumani" Humming lifetd from-The Profiler (English Rock band Group)
- FART
3."Pudhuthu Vellai Malai" -
actually the beat is an inspiration (not certainly copy) from "the kings cross" by Pet shop boys. Karthik You can check this out easily.
4. "Tamila Tamila" - The Lead piece sounds like
one of the Bryan Adam song.
- u know what! he talking abt "everything I do..." this guy surely doesnt know his a** from his elbow...
5. "July matham vanthal" - Th Guitar piece is
Direct lift from Khaleed song Thilabee... Thilaybe..( AIBUM DiDi)
- NO oPINION
7. "Muqala.. Muqabula.." -
it sounded similar to "tribal dance" but dunno how " a few dollars more" comparison came from shankars picturisation was like good bad ugly... which might have lead to the assumption...
14. "Telephone manipol..." - INDIAN,
- My opinion is this a certainly an inspiration from " all that she wants" (beats only)- by ace of base and " they dont care abt us" (again beats) by MJ
16. "Yedu da..antha suriya mellam" - BEAT based
on BONEY M Album: Booonooonooous.
- NanBaN is correct on this one!!!!
17. "Venilavay Venilavaee.." -(Minsara Kanuvu)
NaNbaN has farted on this. This song picturisation(which was claimed brilliant by Rajeev menon) was directly scene by scene copy of gene kelly's dance sequence in "an american in paris" just a FYI ...
well thats my opinion on that. maybe NaNbaN has been more forceful or decided in expressing his opinion

Karthik ,
remember some time b4 i posted abt "jumbalaika" humming appearing on "Bedazzled" soundtrack. Now we have "helper" saying that he heard this in National Geagraphic...
I guess the humm is from an old spanish song.. i can ask around

karthik,

Bharath:
It could be possibly by the Gypsy Kings, but I'm not sure. Its also posible that its a piece like the opening humming of Muthu which was used by both Deep Forest and rahman 'cos it was commercially available. Again, much like the Dr Alban neats used in Mukkala.
BTW, there was a program in Jaya TV on 26th January, 2001 (the same fateful day when the Bhuj earthquake occured). The program talked about 4 tamil songs and their original versions. It included Mugavari's poo virinjachu (and its original, The Wonders 'That thing you do'). But the one which caught my attention was En Swasa Kaatrey's 'nayagara' song. They played the original track but with the tamil film song's video. And no mention as to who did the original.
But it was not a copy. The opening was sort of similar, the same fast latin music and the rest of the tune was sort of vaguely inspired. But I do want to know who did that track.
Any idea?

"Jumbalaka Jumbalaka" Song from the Fil En Swasa Kaatrey sounds similar to "Vangada Vanga En Vandikku" Song from the film MAAVEERAN.
Pls throw some light n give in ur ideas.

Karthik S,
Can u throw light on the following 3 things
1."Pudhuthu Vellai Malai" -
actually the beat is an inspiration (not certainly copy) from "the kings cross" by Pet shop boys. Karthik You can check this out easily
2. "Muqala.. Muqabula.." -
it sounded similar to "tribal dance" sung by a male female duo group. the girl is called anita
shankar's picturisation was like good bad ugly...
in the beginning
3. "Telephone manipol..." - INDIAN,
- My opinion is this a certainly an inspiration from " all that she wants" (beats only)- by ace of base and " they dont care abt us" (again beats) by MJ

Bharath:
I could not find a song clip of Pet Shop Boys' The Kings cross. Seems PSB have done a cover version of this song which was originally by somebody else. Looking for PSB version.
Tribal Dance was by 2 Unlimited. Deva had flicked one of their tracks note-to-note for his Kalloori Vaasal number 'kiss me miss'. I really dont think tribal dance has anything to dow ith Mukkala, lemme post a clip when I find it.
Telephone Manipol has ace of base's beats. Must be commercially available. The MJ 'they dont really care about us' some when the words telephone manipol sirippaval ivala ossurs in the neginning of the song. Then the MJ beat plays for 3 -4 seconds.

background beat grooves in theenda theenda by Yuvan shanker totally inspired from
...A by Jay Z... The bounce with me song...
(this might be played in your local radio)
in fact i hear the same drum grooves played, might be he sampled from this song.
I also heard a song by tom jones,
karthick raja has totally lifted the song in krishna krishna (dum dum dum), he even managed to life the same instrument sounds along with scores.:(
I will post the details of the song as soon as i get them. I missed the name in the radio, but they will surely play it again.
this is the third copy/inspiration stuff i am hearing today :)

I think Karthik Raja might be having trouble with fun songs..IR had dappAnguththu, Deva some gAnA and ARR ...thinking about it this fun song type is his strength..KR is very weak in this dept.

YSR seems to be listening to a lot of pop too..His song "Kannmunney" from thulluvadho ilamai has the prelude heavily inspired by the prelude music from "Right here waiting for you" by Richard Marx..
And our beloved Deva is at it again..I might have mentioned this earlier but "Pookkal mattum" from Citizen is a straaaaaight lift from "Take a chance on me " by Abba (and in fact the tamil version also starts with chorus humming "Take a chance" :-)) not to mention that another "chikkimuuki kallu" from the same album owes its beat to "ippa saaththu " from sethupathi IPS :-)
With Napster filtering english song files one can think of getting a good collection of pop CDs second-hand from Deva at a cheap price, he seems to have a really good collection :-)

The Kaadhalar Dinam song 'roja roja' seems to have shades of the Top Gun theme (this instrumental piece is same as Berlin's song Take my breath away). Coincidence 'cos the rest of the song (in both cases) are very different.

KR's Ullasam song 'konjum manjal pookal'...does it have any inspirations/ influences? I remember reading somewhere that it has shades of some song by Savage Garden (the msg actually said Sound Garden, but thats impossible). Any idea anyone?

I heard the rap by jayZ again this morning.
YSR!, lifted the tune from his dad (i read some where IR scolded yuvan for taking his tune) and he lifted the the background from Jayz bonuce with me....when will our musicians think of their own!....:( i am going to really analyze his songs from now on..as some one said in some other thread please dont compare these mediocre musician with ARR. A total disgrace.
You guys should hear the tom jones song..."kevelam" same song translated in tamil
Deva is better. does not leave under cover.
(I will post the details as soon as get them, you can belive me then)
It is high time IR talk to his sons in this regard. Talk to them about indian music and how divine it is. These 2 guys are spending all the name and fame his father earned in the past years. simply Pavam pa IR.
more than anything else I am sadded totally by KR, he is nice/complicated musician with considerable knowlege of WCM. Why copy!....
if he wants fun song, if he is weak in that genere, hey there is ilami idho, yeh yeh unai thane or bam chika bum bum...and tons more in his father shelf. Just take it, you have the right.
:( :(
