My fav are the sudhadhanyaasi raaga based bgm (warmth) and the titles bgm. The various hues of Oliyile therivadu song, IR has used in bgms is amazing. I always preferred the 'Pattusolli' song(ShivaRanjini raaga) from Azhagi to other songs. Now I have to consider this 'Oliyile therivadu' too.

In my opinion, the defining moment in this movie (Azhagi) was when Dhanam (as construction worker) with her bleeding son on her lap, looks at Shanmugam. Oliyile Therivadhu comes again in a dramatic contrasting variation. The contrast is, Dhanam as a devadhai in the actual song (a radiant face in the match-stick light) and Dhanam as a distressed construction worker (the worst occupation in India) in the bright chennai sunlight! I hope Peeps will be kind enough to provide this BGM piece as well.
I am happy that finally there is an effort to bring the BGMs in TFM in focus. I am looking forward to more discussions that will enlighten me.

bb- excellent song! Among S-G's best ever efforts. In fact both the MGR films that they composed music for-Idhaya Veenai and Naan Yen Pirandhen-both 1972, stand testimony of what they could come up with sufficient prodding.
Naan Yen Pirandhen starred MGR with KRV and Kanchana. Among the other songs in the film, Bharathidasan's 'Chithiracholaigaley' and 'Naan paadum paadal'-both TMS and that lovely 'Thalai vaazhai ilaippottu'- SJ&Jikki are truly memorable.
bb-I've sent you a mail.

Song of the Day: pulikku pirandhavanE from sigaram.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/pulikku.rm
I had heard this short song by SPB only once before. Then, a couple of years back, Sriram Lakshman used to sing this song when we met. It was one of his favorites and he used to sing it with such "pheeling" :) I was hooked to this song, and longed to hear SPB sing this.
Last week, I saw the DVD of Sigaram and rented it immediately. To listen to this song was absolutely wonderful, and since then, I've been repeating this song countless number of times. What a great rendition by SPB! He also composed this song. I don't know who is the lyricist, looks like a Vairamuthu song. Though it lasts for less than a couple of minutes, I think this is one of the best lullabies in TFM.
On a tangential note, I must mention how disappointed I was with the whole film. It is directed by Ananthu. He is supposed to be the brain behind K.Balachandar's films, but he totally spoilt this film. Mind-numbingly stupid dialogues, a predictable plot that doesn't sustain our interest, and an insipid comedy track make up this film. I can't imagine how anyone can think that Charlie's track can be funny. The film is filled with very very short scenes, most of them lasting only one or two dialogues, and server no purpose than to move the film along to the next scene. The screenplay is one of the shoddiest you can expect from a Kavithalaya banner. Did Ananthu do any more movies? I will gladly stay away from them, if he did :)

bb,
thanks for the wonderful song ...
I think 'Sigaram' is the only movie Ananthu directed, But he did screenplay for couple of Suresh Krishna movies, 'Aha' is the last one I remember

balaji,
SPB hit bigtime with balachandar's jr. Vasanth's first movie kEladi kaNmaNi (music IR, much talked about maNNil intha kAthal...). Encouraged by Vasanth's success ananthu ventured into this (crap), he pulled SPB along to score music. Few songs (incl. this one) were reasonably good. But then the screenplay and direction were so bad that everything flopped.
This was the period when balachandar was moving away from IR. He always is seen reluctant breaking his partners. There was a long time relationship with MSV - when he had it enough, he did not have the courage to move to IR straight. He needed VS Narashiman to pass through. Then when he had troubles with IR, he reached ARR en route marahathamaNI. Ananthu was dissuaded from having IR (there is no way KB would have produced that movie with IR in it), so SPB was drafted to fill. He tested ARR with under his banner rojA, before he employed him in duet.
