Except the first song - Azhaginna Azhagi all others are mediocre. Especially the Asathura song's BGM is lifted from the belly dance music of the middle east. After Boys ARR has not proved his mettle in this film

I was very disappointed with ARR's music for this film. The songs are very run-of-the mill variety. Perhaps Rahman is busy with other projects and owing to pressure from AMRathnam, composed these songs on his way to London, on his AirTel cellphone.
Looks like we have to wait for a Mani Ratnam film, in order to see him back in his previous form. Also, his decision to shy away from scoring the BGM for films and letting any tom-dik and Sabesh Murali doesn't show him in good light. The Annu Maliks and Nadeem Shravans do that, as they lack talent in that department, not South Indian music directors.

I do not think Ar Rehman is repeatitive ....But since he relies more on sounds rather than pure melody ,even a slight use of the same loop or the sequence will brand him as repeative ......

I am not too impressed with ARR in E20U18. But with a subject like this, I guess thats what he can do here. I am sure that this wont even rank in ARR's top 20 albums, but it might produce some hits (not necessarily good songs).
But I am not too overly disappointed as he has made up more than enough in WoHE (especially that Jolin Pop song... amazing fusion of different styles of music). And with LOTR musical coming up, you can expect him to devote the best of his musical energies for that.

E20U18 is still a nice mainstream album by ARR.
His best will still be in one that has great story and good situations. So if E20U18 has a great story and good situations, ARR's music can be counted among his best.

The songs are alright, nothing spectacular.
I like the raggae style singing in "kama kama" or bling dingaling whatever you call it... And just the start of "asathura" where it sounds like bellydance music is neat... The oru nanban is a nice one. The rest are alright

Enakku 20 Unakku 18 is simply beautiful.First i thought it was pretty ordinary stuff but soon after a couple of listens i started relising that there was something in it.The song which grows on you absolutely slowly is "Asathura" which in my opinion i simply beatiful especially in the interludes. All the songs are pretty catchy ---Nice followup after boys.Cheers AR Rahman!!!!

Hi guys, I listened carefully all the songs in this album, and as a simple music fan who just enjoys good music this is what I think. This is purely my views, so feel free to differ :-)
1. Azhaginna Azhagi - I am still unable to digest the starting music of this song, the first time I heard it, I went "What the heck was that?" However, once the song starts the first thing I noticed was how innovative the song really is. The chorus melody of this song especially, simply sways, very catchy, and is wonderfully programmed. It was like honey to the ears. The "naathaswaram" interlude was something different, but special mention MUST be made of Shreya Goshal's sweet voice. One of my favorites from this album. I give this song 9/10
2. Kama - Kama - Catchy song, liked it from the first time I heard it. The "Shaggy" style vocal is not exactly original but it does brings back memories of Apache Indian in No Problem. This is another "Hey Hey Enna Achu" from Kathal Virus type of song, the progress of the song's tune is not very sophisticated but it is pleasant to hear. However, as on the first song above, the chorus is very good. AR Rahman probably specializes in this. The phrase "Don't bore us, get to the chorus" applies well here! :-) I give this song 8 /10
3. Assathura - Srinivas doing his best, again, this song reminds me of "Vaan Nila" from Kathal Virus. I would say that compared to the other songs in this album, this song pales. It's just another song, even the chorus isn't that good to hear. Chitra Sivaraman renders the song well, though and the song slightly picks up towards the end. I give it 6/10.
4. Oru Nanban Irunthaal - The short harmonica rendition in the beginning of the song sets a wonderful mood for the song. Then the beat kicks in, and the female vocal starts and the song completely goes in an opposite direction (sadly). Lyrics are excellent and the consistent beat on the background is good to hear, not to mention the harmonica that fades in and out (you have to listen carefully to appreciate it) As usual, Rahman's music is very finely weaved with many layers of music. It's a good friendship song but will never be in the same class as "Mustapha". Another similar song by Rahman from Uthaya "Pookum Malar" was a much better song. I give this sing 7/10
5. Santhipoma - Now this is a type of song I come to expect from Rahman. Unni Menon is an excellent choice as is Chinamyi for the female vocal. This is a song in the same class with "Kili Irandu Konjikolle" from Manitha Manitha, only slightly slower. Wonderful lyrics again, and Rahman's trademark multi - layered music can be experienced again. The interlude music is excellent and simply takes you floating to some far away wonderful place. The tune of the song is well constructed and flows well. The echoing female vocal towards the end of the song was nice to hear as well and brings this wonderful musical journey to a good end. I love this song, I give it 9/10.
5. Yetho - Yetho - At the beginning of the song, I thought I was hearing "Sonnalum" from Kathal Virus. It's music arrangement is very similar, and gives the similar feeling when heard with eyes closed. Only here we have Karthik's excellent youthful voice married off wonderfully with Gopika Poornima. Wonderful combination, and the music is arranged very well, the interlude of the song is symphony - like. It's a very cool song, good lyrics again and thank god for the proper Tamil pronounciation. The only drawback of this song is it's similarity with "Sonnalum" as mentioned earlier. Still, it's a good song and I give it 7.5/10.
