Adding to that IK, a review must pertain to that particular music director rather than comparing with other MD's... We see that a lot of reviewers say that X movie songs are bad compared to Y movie which was by the other MD blah blah blah..... A reviewer can point out to similarities but not blatantly compare that X MD is better or Y MD is better.. That's more of a review of the MD rather than the movie...

I have listened to the songs and there are couple of decent numbers. Cannot blame ARR for he cannot vibe musically with Rajini or Suresh Krishna, simply because they do not have a "ear for music". If you as a director or actor cannot challenge ARR and if you do not give him time to experiment, you are not going to get good stuff. Period.
How come Shanker,MR, Balachander, BR are able to whip his a*s and get those great songs? (EVen Paarthale Paravasam is great and I think it was a great effort.)
Well, the only guy who continues to churn good melodies irrespective of the actor, director is Mr. Illayaraja. Now don't jump on me ;-) The Rajini-IR combination is a fact sheet for you to verify and you will know that a movie like Kazhugu or Thani Kaatu Raaja did not have a reputed director nor was Rajini the "ultimate guy" at that time..
Bottom Line: Baba is just another movie for ARR and not something that will break his career. It's an age old marketing trick.
It's just my opinion.. (Yeppa.. discussion forum-la post panradhuku ivvalavu protection thevaiya ? Ennakum black cats protection vaenumpa :)

thiru glad you agree with me. Vikatan used to review movies very well. Nowadays it is not that good. It is better we judge ourselves. People use different parameters. Over a period we become prejuidiced, including myself. I don't watch VijayaKanth, SarathKumar movies as a rule. They have always sucked. Music reviews become even more subjective. To explain it betterin my village no movie ran for more than 50 days(Mundanai Mudichu) until Karagattakaran came and ran for 100 days. It was a very small village.
It ran for 100 days. Manguyile Poonguyile was superhit there. Song was on the lips of everybody.
But i liked the song "Indha Man Undhan Sondha Man" better that manguyile song. I was kind of minority there!!! Bottomline is taste varies from person to person. Some like Britney spears, some hate her to the core. Same way some like ARR some don't. One party cannot expect the other to change it. More you try less you will succeed. This is the universal rule.
To LK. i think posting a review multiple times should not be encouraged no matter how good the review is. Are you afraid bad reviews will cover good reviews? So what? If it is good enough nothing can stop it from succeeding. They will post for sometime and leave. More you try to irritate them more they will come back at you. Point is it is endless.

Personally I don't like ARR-RK combination. ARR is more known for techno type of movies and so far, ARR-RK had not given a movie which needs such a combination. See, I am not telling that ARR sucks. All I am telling is that this is an odd combination. And, of course, you can't tell that RK and Suresh Krishna don't have an ear for music. When SK and RK came together first and got Deva as their MD, I was petrified... for Deva is known for just photocopying music literally. But see what happened? Annamalai and Baasha are two of the movies of RK with very good music and songs. And, RK picked the tune for the song "Oru pen poora" in Annamalai which is a beautiful tune. So, just because you like ARR, don't blame the poor quality of music on RK and SK. However, the best combination would have been IR-RK combination. Remember a movie called Veera? Remember the songs? Even today, you can hear them again and again. That was the last time they combined. It is just ARR-RK combination is not the best in trade. Rajini had told that he would be working with Shankar soon in the future and Shankar always takes ARR for music. Hope at least then it is going to be different.

Baba: different songs for superstar Rajini
There is only one thing that is more eagerly awaited by the superstar’s fans than the audio release of his film’s music. And that is the film itself.
For Baba it was no different. Even before its’ release, the music album was the subject of many a controversy - including the idea to introduce advance reservation through coupons sold at theatres.
Many of the die-hard fans waited for hours in long queues to get their coupons, only because they wanted to hear the film’s music as soon as it released. But it was not to be. The audio cassettes hit the music stores first instead, taking many fans by surprise. Some were hurt. Many were disappointed - but it can’t be with the quality of the music. It is one of the best in recent times by A R Rahman. But then, of course, it is difficult to satisfy the superstar’s fans as they always feel that the music director could have done a better job. It was the same with Baba. However, one mustn’t forget one rule as far as A R Rahman’s music is concerned. If you like the album at the first hearing, it will be a hit. If you don’t, it will be a superhit.
The first track in the album is the Baba Theme or Ekamevadhivitheeyam, which is just two minutes long. It is not hugely innovative - it’s easy to peg it as inspired to some degree by Ennio Morricone’s Al Capone score in the gangster movie Untouchables. But it marks a refreshing departure from the heavy stuff that one usually hears in a Rajinikant movie.
In most of the superstar’s recent films, his introduction is usually through a song. Earlier, it was easy to say which track will introduce him, but in Baba it is only after listening to the entire album can we say with a certain amount of confidence that the honour will go to Dippu...Dippu sung by Shankar Mahadevan. It is also after a long time that someone other SP Balasubramaniam is singing the intro song. But Shankar Mahadevan doesn’t disappoint and his full-throated delivery adds more life to an already peppy song.
The best song is Baba Kichchu. No one but SPB could have sung this track with so much elan and the ebullient energy with which he modulates his voice effortlessly through the track makes one want to keep listening to it. Also, the lyrics by Vairamuthu are good and funny but full of political overtones - one reason why it will go down well with the fans. Side B opens with Maya Maya, a fast number sung with racy beats and an excellent chorus. The lyrics by Valee are really good, especially the lines Thamarai ellei meil neer polla nee thotum thodaamal irru (crudely translated it means: like water on a lotus leaf, be in touch but don’t get involved).
Rajyammaa is another very good song and Jayachandran’s voice haunts you long after the track is over. This song was recently criticised by many followers of Periyar, who alleged that the lyrics were defamatory. It is said that some verses of the song have now been changed. A R Rahman has proved through this song that, when it comes to simple compositions that have lasting effect, there is none to match him. Sakthi Kodu, which comes last, is a devotional song and will be well-appreciated by Carnatic music buffs. Karthik has rendered this song well and the lyrics by Vairamuthu are also good.
The songs of Baba may be flyweight when compared to the music of other Rajinikant films, but they score over the rest through sheer melody. A must buy.
