I saw Virumandi by paying extra.
Why KAMAL..? Why u proved all that told by K.Balachander in Virumandi VIZHA.
It is better to have directors like BHARATHAN ( DEVAR MAHAN ) to deliver a good interesting movie.
Virumandi was very raw and not able to sit in the second half.
Dont confuse the audience with ur confused state of mind.
Iam UPSET and my friends ridicule me as a fan of yours.

Heard that Autograph is very good as well. It seems it got 52 marks in Ananda Vikatan. If SunTv has the rights to show "Autograph" on small screen, then it might be the Number 1 next week. Watch out!

Just to compare:
Of the 172 films at Rotterdam Festival,
La meglio gioventù - 1 (The Best of Youth - 1) finished at the top of the KPN (People's Choice?) ratings with a rating of 4.75 with 665 people responding.
Noviembre (November) finished second with 4.52 with 499 responding.
Nest, there are four movies with 4.49 with various number of people responding.
Virumaandi was rated 4.06 by 611 respondents to finish up at 38th spot.
The least popular movie got 2.31 by 67 respondents.
Going by these stats, Virumaandi did very well at the festival and seems like it was quite well received by the audience.
vive le Virumaandi!

in the kothaalathevar's version of the story, there is a bit song - eesaeesaane, eesakaraiyaane. in fact these are the starting lines of the 'annalatchumi kaNN asaichaa' song. (wish the full song was there). the scenes show a kind of function in the fields, like a pongal. can any one explain about this festival. curious to know how this bit song synchronises with the scene.

geeth,
Even I am interested in knowing about this!
The bit song goes something like this:
'eesa eesaanE, eesak karaiyaanE,
(o)ngoppanum aaththaaLum
nadhik karaiyOram
seththuk kedakkaanga!
angittup pOneennaa
Rekkaiyap pippaanga!
ingittu Odiyaa! ingittu Odiyaa ! (one or two words could be inaccurate, though!).
In the fields, people are seen to be protecting a lamp from the winds and catching (and removing the winglets of) those insects!
Though 'annalatchumi kaNNasaichaa' song doesn't feature in the film, you have the female version viz., 'saNdiyarE saNdiyarE!'
Again, in the end, in credits, Shreya Ghoshal is written as Shreya Ghosh!!!

o gosh! angeyum pronounciation thappaa pochu !
CV, is it 'ongappanum aathaaLum
thaNNi karaiyoram...
i liked 'annalatchumi kaNNasaichaa' better than 'sandiyare'. that 'aithalakka aithalakka' is just great.

Geeth,
I noticed one more flaw, if I may call it one! VirumaaNdi's land /well is supposed to contain water table at very shallow depths. Once he says " thONdinaa 15 adila thaNNi vara nelam / keNaRu". Elsewhere he says 18 adi and in yet another place he says 20 adi! I don't know if it was deliberate (as he is not very literate and has a devil-may -care attitude) or a mistake by the director!!!!

neenga ethanai thadavai padam partheenga? You amaze me.
Anyway, I suspect the reason for this is the later one suggested by you. 15ft, 18ft and 20ft are all 'relatively' shallow compared to the other lands where they have to dig for over 100ft.
I am also pleasantly surprised to note that the movie is a block buster. You never can predict the Tamil movie audience. What's more, even Autograph and Thendral are said to be doing well. Hopefully, this will revive a 'good movie' culture in Tamil cinema. This trend can only be supported by the failure of movies like Boys, Baba, and PKS.

CV..did u noticed another error in the movie...
after the massacre of 24 person...bakc in the Kottala Thevars' home, when Annaletchumy were scolding Kamal....then Kamal grabs a "mammooti" from the rack hanging on the wall and jumps at Kottaisaamy...
well in Kottalathevar's version there were 2 "mammooti" left in teh rack....
but in Kamal's version..there were only 1 left!...

perhaps kottalathevar was hallucinating and everything appeared as double trouble

paran,
I didn't notice this flaw. Let me see again! (Because it's a Kamal film, I didn't expect to see 'Mammootti' in it!!!!)
But you have to pardon me for correcting your observation! Annalakshmi scolds VirumaaNdi after the murder of Coimbatore KoNdaraaju & a few others (including a child)in KoNdaraaju thOttam of nallamanaickenoor, a crime which he didn't commit in the first place! Subsequently, when the 24 murders take place, Annalakshmi is already no more! As regards KOttaichaami, he gets a cut on his forehead in the first episode, while his arm is chopped off in the second lot of 24 murders (both courtesy VirumaaNdi!!!)! Of course, till the end, I couldn't understand whether VirumaaNdi committed a single murder or not!!!

"I couldn't understand whether VirumaaNdi committed a single murder or not!!!"
I couldn't either. I thought it is implied he didn't.
When he assults Kottaichami for the second time, he chops of his hand and then, instead of chopping off his head (a la Thevar Mahan) he just lightly slashes his neck - sparing him his life. This is assuming that Kottaichami survives the chopped off hand - if you have watched Mahanadhi, then you know it is survivable:-)
The only person VirumaaNdi would have murdered given the opportunity is Koththaalathevar. But he is not given the opprtunity till the end, and when he has the opportunity Angela inteferes.
Great movie though. Are you in TN?

its a great movie, except the "death sentence" concept looks like a "thinipu" in the movie.

Assuming Kottaichami survives :), we can also infer the guy got a kiss from Kamals spear also survives.
Enough reasons for him 2 get vindicated, if at all!

Vatsa,
That might be a thinipu but it might be the one word mantra for him to sell the movie in the west.
Cannes or anywhere!

The movie got a good rating in Rotterdam Fim Festival. Although, it has few lapses if you watch a couple of times, the movie was crisp (cant beleive the move was almost 3 hrs), had less compromises, the execution of two different narration for the same story, BGM (very subtle) and a brilliant situational song composition, same/similar songs for two different narrations.
