kiru;
you did a good job. I just checked with Jeans album.
http://songs.swaramalika.com/cgi-bin/media/search.cgi?lang=tamil&film=Jeans&exact=1
compare with PG's
http://www.reliablehost.com/planetearthmusic/PassionMusicForLastTemp_ist.htm
Starting beats of Jeans is a direct lift from PG's Of these, hope. Just compare and evaluvate yourself. It has already been documented here! How nice to have a full album...

pg,
I checked my "Neengal Kettavai" CD and Cassette and I didn't see any acknowledgements there.
So I concluded that "Neengal Kettavai" is a 100% original album.

Bach's scores are surely in the public domain. That is why you see so many 'cheap' classical music CDs. American law says, that music/literature/pieces of artistic composition have copyright protection only upto 75years. I guess other countries laws' are not very different (considering America is very much into copyrights).

Kiru,
Legally and Geographically what IR did is correct.
I agree with you.

Trend,
It is musically/ethically/artistically correct. It is a true creative exercise. I am not sure whether you have HTNI in the first place. If you did, you will understand it is ridiculous to say it is a copy/inspiration. You frustrate me !!

Kiru,
I'm sorry if I frustrated you.
The point is:
Based on what we have been talking in this site as an inspiration/copying.I think it falls in that category.I may be wrong.
Since I frustrated you, disregard my other queries to you.I will also try not to comment on your valuable postings here.
But I don't understand what frustrated you.I just used a variation of your logic I think.

Trend,
You should first listen to HTNI. You wouldn't say this if you did. I could to some extent understand the frustration that IR has to go through. I have faced similar situations in work too :(. If people dont like your work it is okay, but if they dont understand what you are trying to do, it is really bad.
Anyways, listen to more of IR's compositions even if you dont like them initially. You will soon be able to appreciate his compositions.
No, I am not really frustrated. I dont take these things personally. I am here to understand various ways of doing music. Not necessarily to insist on my choice of composer as the best, even though I have opinions in that regard.

Kiru,
IR and ARR are my two favourite composers.Though I like ARR better than IR,I listen to both of them voraciously.I have listened to HTNI a lot of times.I think it has been inspired based on the degree we have been applying to classify a composition as a inspiration.
I think I'm just playing by the rules.
I would also like to know ways of making music.I'm also interested in people's views on this irrespective of their knowledge.
"If people dont like your work it is okay, but if they dont understand what you are trying to do, it is really bad"
I completely agree with you here. But this
applies to both IR and ARR.
Anyway,it is good to know you were not really frustrated and also didn't take anything personally.

:-))) chamber welcomes thyAgarAja, i met bach at my house, ...and we had a talk are creations of a keen mind which understands both these disparate genres very well. (i happened to listen to another tfm composers attempt at "orchestrating" carnatic compositions in collaboration with a now dead famous singer - wow! his voice is devine! - and it sucked big time. it was painful to listen to nagumOmuganalE! :-(( just a point of view. no fights please.)

Mr. nameless;
Remember, I did not come with different names to shut their mouths like you..I did not comment on individuvals who post any kind of material here....unfortunately, I miss all these great adult characters and stuck in a position of being named "childish". Well rather than being like you adult I wish to stay like how I am...
TFM page is just not for people who knows little sound engg., some carnatic and some hi-fi stuffs. I am a layman, a respectable consumer, who pay my hard earned money to buy music. When I am being cheated, I get eligiblility to comment on their music atleast to a layman's level if not to your intelligent levels. If you call this to be "childish" then >50% tamil consumers are "childish" as they stay in the same or lower level than me.
Your great abilities can be discussed in your own thread so that "children" like me won't even poke their noses inside. I reiterate that I am layman, who just hears everybody's music and make comments here. You play everywhere by pulling this "child's name" despite my presence or absence there. You know something. ONLY CHILDREN PLAY WITH FELLOW CHILDREN. A true adult never poke his/her nose in child's activity. Where do you think you stand? I leave it to your great guess.
I have seen your ironic attitude of going against anybody who comments on ARR...You great intelligent guy.how nice it would be to talk about musicians & music and not about people who peep here. I wish this "child" can learn some useful things from you great brains.
By the by, I am just rechecking the title of the topic..."COPYING - IN TAMIL FILM HISTORY"...Am I not suppose to comment on copy stuffs of musicians. I feel I am not wrong anywhere..My posts find a great fit ...I know you're going to go one step ahead after reading this..never mind!
