6 Songs : Mind Blowing!!

Simply mind-blowing
November 20
Ajay Devgan and Vivek Oberoi can’t stop raving about the songs of Mani Ratnam’s Yuva. “A.R. Rahman and Mani Sir and dynamite together,” says Vivek on the sets of Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria’s Masti, and adds, “The six songs Rahman has recorded for the film are mind-blowing.”
Ajay Devgan, his co-star in Yuva and Masti, uses the same words to describe them. Incidentally, when the film was launched earlier this year, Mani Ratnam had decided not to have a single song in it.
Vivek also feels that Abhishek Bachchan’s is the best role and best performance in the film. “That guy’s career will take off in a big way after Yuva,” predicts Vivek.

Some points I left.
I liked Surya's facial expressions while talking to bharathiraja. It was excellent.
And in trailers it was portrayed that esha's name as gitanjali.
Entire movie she is referred as gigi :-( evlo nalla peru gitanjali.
Trailer synopsis and movie were not in sync completely.

folks
me and ferrari went for aayitha ezhuthu night show on friday at poornima theatre here. AE has been released in 7 theatres here and Yuva in 8 theatres. all the tickets for the first day were sold out and we were looking for tkts from the previous day evening. we alwats wanted to see AE first before Yuva as we know AE would be much better and more hitting than Yuva, being a MR film. Ferrari got the info that we can get tkts in Poornima theatre an hour before the movie start and he reached there by 6 to get the tickets. He told me that there was a huge crowd and somehow he managed to get the tkts. i reached there just in time when they opened the gates for the show.
There were reviews about Yuva in rediff, sify and many other sites and it looked like a mixed bag. But I always knew Mani's movies would be enjoyable for his fans and the Tamil version would always be better. And no need to talk abt the technical brilliance in every movie of his. Having read all those 'behind the screens' stories, I knew that this would be a technically superior film than the other flicks. and as usual mani's touches irukkum anga anga padathula. I guess most of you would know the story outline already and I dont want to be a spoiler here. Its all about 3 guys - madhavan, surya &
siddharth who ahve three different outlooks in their lives and how thir lives meet.
madhavan plays the negative character of inbasekar a henchman for the corrupt politician bharathiraja, and he has got the meatiest role among all three. lot of scope of histrionics and entertainment. and having shaved his head for this role, he has got a more rugged look and his performance his deadly. i saw some shades of kamal in some of the scenes. he is the best of all 3 in the film. mira jasmine avanoda 'sandai kozhi' wife who doesnt have much job other than singing 'sandai kozhi..' and sobbing in most of the scenes.
surya, as the brilliant genius student michael has also acted very well (but still only second best). he throws aways his US scolarship and wants to stay back in india to cleanse the scoiety of the corruption. student leader role (remember karthik in mouna ragam??) . bharathiraja -a yethirthu elections la potti poduvaan. esha deol is his love pair and her job is mostly to come in all scenes , look cute (she has shed a lot of pounds and looks cute now), talk with a naughty smile...avlo thaan. surya also loves her but says he doesnt want to marry. instead, he asks to come to and live with him. 'live-in' aalu avaru. and they got this 'nenjamelaam kaathal..' song which is truncated in the movie. typical MR style.
finally..sidhaarth, the happy-go-lucky guy - a typical MR movie youth who dreams of flying to US and settle there. meets trisha in a discotheque , sings 'fanaah...' and hangs out with her, sings 'hey...good bye nanbaa..' in a beach before they part their own ways. trisha major role illai. appram, finally they fall in love.
now..the important thing in the movie or maybe the point that distinguishes this movie from other tamil movies , is the story telling aspect. it all starts with a accident scene at napier bridge which involves all 3 heroes and takes a flashback for each one of them. each one of the flashbacks run for 30 mins each and by the time all 3 of them finsihes and comes back to the present day, the movie is well past the interval. anga irunthu story yeppadi poguthunnu naan solla porathillai. neengale paarthkkonga. very good cinmatography, superb stunt choreography (the climax fight is good for an indian film standard), a few witty dialouges here and there. not all the songs are picturized completely and not all of them are picturized well. "fanaah' is a great song and
picturising it in a discotheque was a bit disappointing (though it sounds very much a club song). 'jana gana mana' was another disappointment as it was picturised very cinematically, unlike Mani. madhavan got the best of the picturization. my fav picturised song was 'dol dol ...' (no song.just music) when madhavan and his gang starts a gas agency business. and the second best would be 'sandai kozhi' song on madhavan and meera jasmine.
witty dialogues here and there sonnen la. a few samples...
sidhaarth (when chasing trisha on napier bridge beggin with her with a ' I Love you' ...) : "unnai paartha appram madras kooda azhagaa theriyuthu " :-)
this one is a typical MR movie dialgue
sidhaarth: (same scene) "I love you. Unnai US kootindu poganum. Un kooda Niagara paakanum. Unnai maathiriye 2 penn kuzhanthainga pethukkanum. Pittsburg Koil poittu avangalukku Mottai podanum"
Trisha: "nee yenna paarthu yevlo naal aachu? 1 week ? 8 weeks ? athukkulla yenna 2 ponnukku amma aaka paakriyaa?"
Sidhaarth (with an innocent expression): athukku konjam time kodu. :-)
Trisha: yenna love panravan intha oorukke kekkara maathiri 'I Love you' solluvaan nnu naan yethirpaarthen.
Siddhaarth: (climbs on the Napier bridge wall) ippa yenna? cinema la vara maathiri yelaarukkum kekkaraa maathiri 'I Love You' sollanum thaane. unnai maathiri sila per naala thaan sumaaraan cinema yelaam hit aaiduthu :-)
Sidhaarth comes running and jumps the queue in US embassy for the visa interview in front of a middle aged man.
M.Aged Man: "yenna paatha fool maathiri theriyuthaa?'
Sidhaarth: "Sorry, antha alavukku unagala yenakku theriyaathu" :-)
the surya episode with all political tinges , elections, and society kku nallathu panren stuff looked a bit overdone and cinematic which could be the drawback for the movie. though not the best of maniratnam, it is still enjoyable and better than the other regular romantic, masala movies.

One more classic dialogue:
In CoffeeDay,
Trisha: Yen coffeekku naane pay panraen.
Sidd: Paravaalam, yennoda coffeekkum neengale pay pannidunga.
:))

--- Kanna,Nattamai&the like have some basic problem i think
I think I am alright. I liked Virumandi's first half very much and disliked the second part, especially jail sequence.
--- You think you have a great sense of humor, well this attitude of you makes me laugh.
Nope, that was certainly a fact, not a joke! But I think you have a great sense of humor though.
--- Thalaila thundu kattindu Aethiri madhiri padam paakaravan ellam AE eppadi rasipaan..
This is the problem when you don't like hyped-up people's works. When the work is bad, if you say so they will label you as onnum theriyathavan. And they will behave like athi methavis. If you do experimentation, better do something like 'Run Lola run'. Keep it innovative and interesting or else people will reject your work for sure.
People are complaining about Gillie's success in this thread. I have couple of questions for you.. where were you when Muthu, Padayappa came out? where will you be when JagguBhai coming out? Just because Gillie was not done by ThunduBhai you guys are just writing it off. Hypocrites!
Anyway get back to your jalra troupe.....

I was free in the afternoon after 2&so decided to watch Yuva(despite wanting to watch AE first). With all those reports of yuva not taking an opeaning¬ doing well,i thought i will be able to get tickets easily as i was going to Swagath which is not a main theatre&where a flop film means there will be only 50 to 60% of capacity crowds. The show was at 3.15&i was there by 2.30 only to see a housefull board&people already waiting for tickets for the 6.45 show. Now will anybody tell me what is this yuva doing badly all about?
P.S:I have decided to watch AE first come what may within the next 2 days.

Nattamai,
I don't have an attitude&my comments were certainly not told with any humour b'cause i meant it.You seem to derive vicarious pleasure in putting down people&most of the time you go overboard in your criticism.why is it that you don't find any thing positve,i take it as a compulsive sadistic streak in you which wishes only failure for people you don't like.Anyway i don't want to start a mudslinging match with you.So you are free to shout from rooftops your 'thundu' comments.

I guess they would have meant it in a way that when a complete masala movie like Gilli succeeds, movies like AE should also be made to succeed.
When audiences make a movie like Gilli a big hit, it sounds a bit funny when they start to question about some small things being overloked here and there in AE movie trying to find faults.
And again, when the audiences make only those movies like Gilli, Arul, Sami as huge hits , it looks as if the audiences are dumb and prefer only those 100% masala movies and does not like immi alavu of experimentation done.
Vijay fans yelaam avaroda every movie hype up panni 'padam super, 10 vaati paakalaam' nnu cut out vekkum bothu whats wrong in MR fans hype for a better movie, AE?
