Ferrari,
Raju Sundaram played a cricketeer in I love you da, and it had a song that goes' Adichaa sixer-u'!
I can't recall any other cricket related songs in tfm.
Kapil Dev made a special appearance in Unnidathil Naan-1986. Paadhai Maarinaal-1979 revolved around a cricket player, played by 'Julie' Vikram. Nizhalgal Ravi played a batsman in Maamiyaargal Jaakirathai- 1986. And Madhavan made a fool of himself recently in Priyamaana Thozhi.

OISG, ennakku Ganguly as a test cricketer piddikathu enraalum as a leader ( not a tactical captain) we need him. he can needle, irritate the opposition. we need aguy like him! and now that he has scoreda century he can do that better than the oz naatu maayavi!!

For that matter, no tamil movie has been made of a sportpersons life. I remember some movie made on ashwini nachappa...
Our directors can think of making movie on some successful sportspersons life like venkatraghavan anand etc etc. the challeges they faced in life. something like that. instead of telling love and friendship in different(???????????) ways

See, in PP Arthangal this balachandar again concentrated on his favorite rendu pondaati topic. There was a character who was a cricket player. The movie was not based on his life. It was based on the same sick two wives subject

Ferrari, I think only a real sports person can be convincing on screen. Aswini Nachappa was ok in one film that I saw, directed by Mouli, I think.
As regards our actors, in Maamiyaargal Jaakirathai Nizhalgal Ravi did resemble Roger Binny - at least from the back ;)
L Sivaramakrishnan came as himself- forgot the film- perhaps Raja Kaiya Vecha.
I remember seeing an endearing Hindi film on TV long back called Hip Hip Hurray- it was about a school foodball match and the climax was memorable.
Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikkandar and Lagaan are other good examples.

Friends,
Around 1990, there was a Hindi film by Dev Anand called 'awwal number' (Number One), in which Aamir Khan acts as a cricket player, with quite a few crucial matches forming part of the story. Subsequently, in another Aamir Khan film 'jo jeetaa wohi Sikander' (venRavan evanO avanE Alexander!), he (and another actor named Mamik as his elder brother) acts as a sportsperson (Long distance cycling competition plays a main role in the story). I am not adding 'lagaan' which is still fresh in people's memory.
In TF, there was a vague Sivaji film (anbaith thEdi???) where he suffers from grand illusions. In one sequence, on hearing from his transistor that India needs a handful of runs to win, he starts imagining himself at the crease and 'kuvichufies' runs by the dozen!!!

I think there were two Aswini Nachappa films directed by Mouli (dubbed from Telugu) and one was named 'aaNenna peNNenna'.

And CV, it was Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar which became Badri in Tamil- only cycling was changed to boxing, so that the copy wouldn't be so blatant!

In the song "Pethaalum pethenada
Oru pokiri paiyana thaan", there is a line
"Kiri kattu (cricket???) aadi puttu
kittu payal mandai odachhe" - I used to like this song.

Saravanan , Badri is now being remade in Hindi with Tushaar kapoor.
Aamir khans second or third film with Mamta kulkarni was about a cricket player. I think it was directed by Dev anand. The title is eluding me.

great choice bb .... those 4 rules which u gave matched my opinion perfectly ... glad that the rules were broken!
unfortunate that i finished bursting all the crackers on Diwali day! :-(
Ferrari,
Tendulkar and Dravid can't be compared pa ... tenson aagaatheenga!! ... this comparison is similar to the one Gavaskar and Vishvanath ... each of them has their own way of doing things and they are great in their own way
i dont see Tendulkar doing well in TestMatches offlate...i dunno y...he is human too...i know he will bounce back, but the earlier the better!
btw in so many years of the Tamil Film industry were there just around 5 films dealing with sports?? ... anyaayam pa! ... nobody has put a thot to it perhaps ... and the cricketeers were all loththais(!) - Madhavan and RajuSundaram!! :-)
atleast do we have songs mentioning the names of players?? ... i can recollect 2 of em ... mayb somebody can throw some light on it..
1) Metro Channel Munna Paaru - Indhu ... mentions Tendulkar and Kapil Dev
2) Adicha Sixeru - ILU Da .... Sachin,Ganguly,Jayasurya,Imran Khan
nething else??

bb,
quite dissapointed at the choice of the song of the day.
maybe it was for the occasion that ind beat aussies... but cmon this forum is not bouyed down by the any social or political event....
the song btw.. didnt have any significance in terms of melody or orchestration.
i have been a regular follower of the sotd... but this just brought down the qulaity of the songs chosen....
IMO
