that might no... 'coz no MD is perfect. atleast in one point of time in their career, they'll be forced to copy or re-use another MD's song or they'll use it in their own will... or atleast they'll lift samples...i dont think this will ever stop. Kannaadi veetula irundhu kal eriyardhu maadhiridhaan. no MD in this world is perfect. so they wont accuse others of copying, period

Obvious reverse lift. In fact the creator seems to have just cut 'n pasted a portion from ARR's Bombay number.

A case of "chipping off the old block":)
The song "theendi theendi" from Bala sounds suspiciously similar to the "Rim Jim Rim Jim" number from IR's hindi film Mahadev. Listen to the clip at http://www.raajangahm.com/otherlang.html#HIN
or is it just me?

"reverse lift" why should be the word "reverse" there?
Btw, when I heard the song "aLLu aLLu" it very much sounded like "aellaarumae thiruda(i)ngadhaan" from Naan Sigappu Manidhan?. Title song in that movie.
Any idea about that?

You are BANG ON target. Its a direct lift! Even if is his own dad's composition, passing it off as his own is shameful...unless of course, if there's some credit to IR in the CDs/Tapes of Bala!
This is an incredible find!!!!

Good find karthik and spotter... just curious whether Rim Jim rim jim might have been made into tamil already... 'Silu silu silu vena siragugal pani vizhum kaalam' in a pandiyarajan movie 'oorai therinjikitten' sounds more like Rim Jim ... Any thoughts guys?

Yesterday I was watching a great comedy film
called 'What About Bob'(1991)starring Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss as the film went on I got a strange feeling of having seen this movie already, then it struck me that Kamals Tenali is a straight copy of this film.
Scene by scene copy except in Tenali they have this srilanktamil charachter and meena charachter towards the last scene.
can someone list the other such copied movies

kuruvi - most of kamal's movies are inspired from english movies...
Tenali -what about bob
magalir mattum - 9 to 5
aavai sanmugi - mrs doubtfire and tootsie
panchathandiram - few good things...

But what is the line/diff between inspiration and copy esp a movie like this literally scene by scene lift?
BTW Nammavar is more of 'To Sir with Love' isnt it?
Read in TOI that Babbi Lahari is suing someone rapper in US for copying his music ?!!
just wondering what those screenwriters will do if they found out their movies are copied?

Karthik:
You made it.
Your website's mention in Vikatan is a great thing to the service that you do. I often quote your website in my home and in my friends circle to prove whether one sone is a lift or not.
See, in comming days your site will bear huge number of clicks from all corners. Good Luck.
BTW, I presume that you would have gone thru the NDTV site's discussion of best MD. Some one has alleged that Airtel music is a lift. Can you confirm that.?
- From: Karthik S (@ 164.164.82.29)
on: Tue Nov 19 06:19:44 EST 2002
Not a lift. That message (by Subramanian) is referring to a interlude in Sting's song, which Sting has taken from Sergei Prokofiev's 'Lieutenant Kijé suite' (central motif in the 2nd movement, Romance, to be precise). Sting has credited the same in the album sleeve too.
Even though, its initial bars sound somewhat similar to the airtel tune, its too short to call it a copy. RDB and his dad SDB have used it in Hindi...RDB as the opening tune of a song and SDB as a interlude. Check out my site's RDB page - 25th entry...you could listen to the original too there!

I feel the opening 2 lines of Mounam Pesiyadhe's 'Ei Nanbane' sound exactly like Vengaboys' song 'Boom boom boom' first 2 lines. Almost ditto, including the twist in tune etc.!
Isnt it?

The pallavi of the song "Kaattula" from solla marandha kadhai is a replica of IR's own tune that the second charanam of "Thatharam" from the malayalam movie Guru was set to. Now, this cannot be considered a copy. This is just a rehash of his own tune - just found it interesting and thought I'd share with you guys!

But I think Vikatan messed up one song
Instead of saying 'Chittu kuruvi Vetkapadu'
they have pointed to wrong and great original no of IR 'chittu ku chella chittuku' that shows their knowledge on music or atleast they must be weak in hearing :)

The song in movie "Maran", "kannukul viralai" (or something along those lines) is an exact replica of a hindhi song "Bohathu pyar".
The music for Maran is by Deva ( need I say more)

Chittukku chella chittukku [Film: Nallavanukku Nallavan]
Possibly inspired by Rimsky-Korsakov's 'The Tale Of The Kalendar Prince', from his 1888 work by name 'Scheherazade'.
Listen to Chittukku chella chittukku | Tale of Kalendar Prince
[i2fs] comments: Given Ilayaraja's love for Western Classical music, it sounds plausible...also taking into account his past inspirations from the likes of Antonin Dvorak! Nikolai Andreevich Rimsky-Korsakov is one of the leading 19th century Russian nationalist composers. 'Scheherazade' was written almost towards the end of Rimsky's career and life...as he put it himself in his memoirs, it "closes a period of my work, at the end of which my orchestration had attained a considerable degree of virtuosity and warm sonority"
