i think "copying" is there for a long time in tamil film history. Here we discuss the tamil songs copied from others.

Yes,
Prema also had another copied song..
'Aisa bhi hota..' sung by SPB. It was a copy (a pathetic one) of IR's brilliant song 'PoovE SempoovE', one of the IR-Yesudas combo's best songs ever!

I mean Prema's Hindi remake 'Love' had the above copied song.

I recall reading somewhere on Karthik S' site that since the list of Anand-Milind's copy from IR is too long..he did not have the time or something like that...maybe you can send in a well compiled list and he can publish that.

Hi friendz,
The hit song "Vannam Konda Vennilave" from Sigaram - music SPB - is a lift of an old Hindi song. Can anyone give the details? I remember hearing it on DD some years back, but cannot recollect.

That movie had BGMs which reminded me of several songs - maybe to me it sounded very Indian. I even discovered a "Sindhubhairavi" playing quite a few times throughout the movie.
Sorry about the digression

cosmician,
Here's the link to Anand-Milind section.
http://www.iespana.es/i2fs/hindi-amilind.html
No such announcement anywhere. Understandably, he feels elated when someone brings in a newly discovered copy-act that he wasn't aware of, and adds it to his page right away. IMO, he should list these well-known instances of copies too, for the sake of visitors who frequent his site.
I will be glad to send him a list. Meanwhile it will be great if he states this fact upfront in the AM page (that there are dozens of songs that A-M have copied note-by-note from Tamil and Telugu songs).

I found the following in the preface page of his website. So Cosmician's memory is good :-)
"Welcome to I2FS!
I2fs is simply Inspirations in Indian Film Songs! The motive of this site is straight and simple - to provide a comprehensive page on musical inspirations (mostly subtle and intelligent but sometimes, downright shameless copying!) of Indian film music composers. The list is constantly growing and the most important source of additions is mails from this site's visitors!
Another important factor, is that this site focuses more on inspirations from international sources, rather than from inter-language inspirations in India. So I save considerable web space by not including Anand Milind's inspirations from Ilayaraja and A R Rahman! :-)"

I'd be glad to add a list of such instances in the Anand Milind page but its the search for all the related audio clips and editing them to the relevant 'lifted' portions that takes a hell of a lot of my time. I'm sorry but such older and known (at least to me) lifts from regional languages do not excite me enough to work so hard on the audio clips.
But I also understand that the small list under AM does give a lopsided picture of other composers in comparison and makes AM look like one of the most original composers around. So do send me across a list and let me add them at least without the audio clips, to begin with.

Friends,
In a recent Prabhu Deva song ' appaa appaa ayyappaa! kaNNula kaasak kaattappaa!', a small bit goes as follows:
' en paNam paNam en paNam! oun paNam en paNam!' This resembles an old original Hindi number very closely! :
'goom baraabar goom baraabar...' (I am not very firm on the lyrics though!)

Actually there is a tamil song with the lyrics some thing like this "Jim parapara jim parapara jim parapara jim". The new face heroine in KV was the fat child singing the song with a elephant. I used to comment that a small elephant sings for a big one. The tune is eactly the same as un panam panam. The MD for the former is SAR and the latter is Deva. Need any analysis further. lets not bother about the source.

Nalai mudhal kudikka matten thangamadi thangam rathiriyil thookum varley thangamadi thangam. - great great song by MSV in Needhi, happens to be IR's total inspiration for the song "Pothukkittu poguthadi vaanam athu .... in Paayum Puli. Just check that out.

i recently heard a concert recording by U Srinivaas - he played a piece which reminded me COMPLETELY of VJs classic "veru idam thedi pOvaLO". Is this a case of plagiarism by MSV. (I doubt U Srinivas would play a film song in a concert!)

The song sung by yesudas "kanavu kaanum vaazhkai yavum" composed by ilayaraja was an old hindi song sung by Manna dey. This was the best copy of Ilayaraja since he copied the song without leaving the humming in the middle of the somg.

Girish,
That beautiful song is from Manoj Kumar's 'Uphaar', with Pran acting it out:
'kasmE vaadE pyaar wafaa sab baatein hain baatOn kaa kyaa! kOi kisee kaa nahin! jootE naatE naatOn kaa kyaa!..... dEtE hain bhagavaan kO dhOkaa insaan kO kyaa chOdengE?...'
'saththiyam (promise), aaNai, anbu, viswaasam ellaam veRum pEchchukkaL! pEchchukkaLukkenna (kuRaichchal!)
yaarum evarukkum (sondham) illai! poi sondhangaL! sondhangaLukkenna!....ivargaL kadavuLaiyE aEmaaRRuvaargaL! manithanaiyaa vittu vaippaargaL?!
Though the same tune was used in Tamil (neengaL kEttavai), the Tamil song had its own soul stirring lyrics, based on the 'nilaiyaamai of vaazhkkai' and emotion filled picturisation!
'udambu enbadhu uNmaiyil enna kanavugaL vaangum paithaanE!'

Balumahendra particularly wanted that song to be in his movie.. and am sure IR would hv given him tough resistance for that... finally, the director won.

the song "vaadi yamma vaadi pudhu veththala kondaadee" FROM red has a piece in its II interlude(music as well as chorus) it is almost a straight lift of pallavi of a super hit hindhi song "bekkharaar karkae you(n) na jaayiyae aapko hamarae kasam lout aayiyae" (sung by Rafi, i think), but in faster way (higher tempo?).

my friend has now confirmed that the MLTR song is "Sleeping child".. am not sure of which album is that but the way my friend sings it, its damn damn close to "Kanmunney ethanai"... he says the song prelude (piano piece accompanied by that flute-kinda thing) is damn ctrl+c.

I'd be more than happy to find a lift in YSR's (or any other composer's music) but I think MLTR's Sleeping Child has got nothing to do with TI's Kanmunney.
