Ajay Devgan and Vivek Oberoi can’t stop raving about the songs of Mani Ratnam’s Yuva. “A.R. Rahman and Mani Sir and dynamite together,” says Vivek on the sets of Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria’s Masti, and adds, “The six songs Rahman has recorded for the film are mind-blowing.”
Ajay Devgan, his co-star in Yuva and Masti, uses the same words to describe them. Incidentally, when the film was launched earlier this year, Mani Ratnam had decided not to have a single song in it.
Vivek also feels that Abhishek Bachchan’s is the best role and best performance in the film. “That guy’s career will take off in a big way after Yuva,” predicts Vivek.

Sify's article is full of crap..Gilli and perazhagan released 2 months ago and Ae is jusst approaching its third week..So,how can they pass the verdict so fast??

The way I read Gyan's posting was that while there are a few compositions of ARR that are outstanding - the hype associated is not proportional to the output especially in comparison with that of the others such as MSV, IR etc.
I think those with the rational/analytic approach would portray ARR and his compositions as promising, good, and listenable but anything more as you rightly state is pre-mature.

"veRRik kodi kattu" from Padiyappaa is an alltime inspirational song for me!
BTW, what happened to C~P's inspirational BOYS assembling? BTW, who is that unfortunate guy whose 'kathai' 'mudinjifies'in the end? yaaraipaa bali pOda plan panni irukkeenga!? idhulayaavadhu storyline-a change pannunga! pozhachchu pOgattum!

K, Gyan's stuff seems to be more of the sinister variety, if you really look at his post in its entirety and also followed his gin tea "joke".
As for hype, how long will it last? Hype is temporary, talent is permanent (like in cricket form is temporary, class permanent).

Sonnalum ketpadhillai kanni manadhu
is a classy, captivating number with or without orchestra. In paraticular note the ending -- carnatic kutchery like.
As for kutcery type song, listen to
Azhage sugama
in PP, especially the violin.

One of the best song ARR composed is
"Sonnalum ketpadhillai kanni manadhu" excellent orchestration and melody...and I would rate that song next to "Enuyir Thozhiyae" in Kangalal Kaithu Sei..He is talented instead he uses short cut to bring in some foreign tunes.

It just had the vocals, no orchestration yet it had the flow, i never felt the song needed some interludes to polish it up!

Watched the film again today. Madhavan scenes seemed dull byt Surya's seemed all the more exciting! Aduththu Sunday paarkalaamnu poi kaetta ticket illaennu sollitaanga. First 4-5 rows-la dhaan ticket irukaam :-((

Wow! What an analysis for a failure movie! Gillie remake of Okkadu..is a all around hit..Thats the movie I like fast paced original..It still runnng housefull..btw Okaddu swept the fimfare awards..don't question the validity since ARR won that award several times..
Autograph clean, decent movie talks about reminiscence of everybody's life... it still running houseful..I liked that movie too..
Perazhagan another movie my favorite..
I like movies..but I don't like to watch it umpteen times...I am that fanatic..so you say...
All over the world super hit, All over India Superhit, All over Tamilnad Super hit, ...atlast only Satyam theatre superhit ...MR should thank C~P personally for that since he is watching that movie daily every show..Now we are fighting for Satyam theatre houseful situation..There is a saying if you fall from step1 u will never get injured..but you fall from 1000th step ur gone. Thats what happened to AE.
I have lot of work to do so..other than fanatically watching the same movie again and again..(i am talking about me here)I don't have to get permission from any body for that!

so went to see AE on a Monday in Houston.it was the 5th time it was being shown (played friday may 28- today) and when i went it was half full (this is good over here) Gilli had abt 20-30 ppl less.and it showed only one day here. i asked the guy how was the crowd during the weekend.he said friday full and saturday & sunday shows were pretty full. so i think all this talk abt it not doing well at the box office is made by haters of mani and arr. i believe it wont do wonders at the rural areas. but in the city it is prolli a hit.cuz i kno it is over seas.
