Karthik,
http://www.prs.net has a good collection of WCM midi files.
check this URL http://www.prs.net/haydn.html and click on 'Trumpet concerto in Eb'
I have'nt listened to Karthik Raja's song. But not only our MDs, Mozart and Beethoven were
heavily inspired by Haydn. These 2 guys have flicked some passages even from this Trumpet Concerto!

Comon Guys...
Atleast KR copies from the Old symphonies...
ARR lifts from Dr.Alban and like the others that have been mentioned...
In my opinion KR is better that ARR in lifting/copying/inspiration or what ever u call it.

Mani, my pal!
The thing you mentioned on Dr Alban and ARR has been explained n number of times! Dr Alban himself is using demo CDs for loops and what ARR did was exactly similar to what Alban does. These demo's are available for use in tv advertisements, theme music etc etc.
What KR did was a incredible! Copy note to note from a WC composer who's too dead to complain! And what a lift, 2 WC compositions in one song!! Man!
And your statement "at least KR copies from old symphonies" must be the funniest statement of this year! What did you mean by that?

Its one of my all time fave songs and I'd love to know how it has been adapted in tamil!

Has anyone heard this hindi song
"Yeh Reshmi Zulfonka andhera na ghabraayeeye
jahantak chalenge mere kesuvonke mehekse chaleayenge"
I heard this song in TV today. Its tune looks similar to
"Andamanai paar yendhan azhagu" from Andaman Kadali
Can anybody clarify

puththam puthu kAlai ponniRa vELai's opening flute starts exactly like gershwin's rhapsody in blue but then diverges significantly from it(it doesn't go all the way up like in r-i-b). what a song!

Karthik,
SPB in "vannam konda vennilave" has been heavily inspired by Lata's "Humne dekhi hai un aankhon" in Khamoshi (old), the MD being Hemant kumar. The tune is very similar, not the orchestration. I can send you the files if you need.

BTW, IR's 'karpoora bommai ondru' (keladi kanmani) sounds a lot like the oldie number 'dheere se aaja ri' from Albela (old), music by C Ramchandra.
Both are based on Pilu raagam incidentally.

Sorry for the non-tamil message, just wanted to share this!
On last count Sandeep had three inspired numbers in Pyar Tunes Kya Kiya!
In this context you could check this interview from him!
http://arts.indiaabroad.com/2k1/02/19/19chowta.html
The list:
Title song:
Copied from the song 'O Jabili' from Deyyam (telugu). Dir: Ram Gopal Verma and music by V Satyanarayana.
Listen:
http://hammer.prohosting.com/~cyberkar/o_jabili_deyyam.rm
Kambhakt ishq:
Copied from Afro Celt Sound System's song, 'Eireann'.
Listen:
http://hammer.prohosting.com/~cyberkar/Eireann.rm
Raundhe hain:
Copied from Wojceich Killar's song 'Vampire Hunters' from the OST of Bram Stroker's Dracula.
Listen:
http://hammer.prohosting.com/~arr/vampirehunters.rm
The rest of the 2 songs 'o jaana' and 'ku ku ku' are rehashes of Sandeep's own numbers from Prema Katha.
For the songs of PTKK go to:

Guess Sandeep puts Deva to shame!

Rahman's "Varayo Thozhi" from Jeans is heavily inspired by "O Mere Sona Re"(hindi) from Teesri Manzil ..Rafi and Asha have the playback, the music by R D Burman
By having Sonu Nigam here... Rahman has composed the song in RD's mode!!!!

I heard a Hindi song yesterday with typical ARR treatment. Maybe from his recent Hindi movies. The first 2 lines were very similar to an old Tamil song,
vasanthathil Or naaL
maNavarai Oram
vaidhEgi kAththiruppaaLO - dEvi
vaidhEgi kAththiruppaaLO
Any idea about the song/movie?

Re: Sandeep Chowta. I think these kind of plagiarisation and copying is bound to happen with a situation like we have in our country. Not many of us (including me) have read about music or learnt any musical instrument. We do not support any live musical performances which benefit the artistes (maybe we cannot afford it). We do not care for our own traditional music because we have not learnt the nuances of it to appreciate it. But we expect the only viable mass-communication media (movie)to supply us with entertainment. So these purveyors of entertainment import/modify/repackage stuff from all over the globe. Its difficult to blame the individuals..Its the system that needs to be blamed..

Instead of saying 'difficult' to blame the individuals. I should say there is no use in blaming the individuals..

WHAT YOU HAVE SAID ...K I R U .IS PERFECTLY RIGHT....THINK BOUT THE NUMBER OF MOVIES AND SONGS ARE MADE EVERY YEAR...I BELIEVE OUR COMPOSERS ARE THE MOST VERSATILE....THINK AGAIN...RAHMAN'S CONTRIBUTION FROM HIP HOP(HUMMA HUMMA-BOMBAY) TO EARTH-1947'S SANTOOR-THEME..OR ..NO COMPOSERS IN WESTERN CULTURE HOLD THIS TYPE OF RANGE..
THE NUMBER OF MOVIES MAESTRO-ILLAYARAJA HAS COMPOSED IN JUST 23 YEARS....!!!!
..SANDEEP CHOWTHA INTRODUCED COMPLETE DIFFERENT GENRE..OF FUSING CHANTS(MOSTLY GREGORIAN) WITH JAZZ AND ROCK.
..OR THE JOY OF RD BURMAN OVER CABARET,NEPALESE, INDIAN CLASSICAL OR EVEN ARABIC.

Point noted. By the way, please avoid using All Caps as it makes it difficult to read your posting and also implies that you are SHOUTING.
